Chapter 23 Japan lacks international economic talents

In the past, Japan had talents for international enterprises. This kind of person travels around the world energetically, raising the reputation of the Japanese country and Japanese people in the world. The narrow vision of some politicians, bureaucrats, and scholars has caused the world to judge the Japanese poorly, and these people can be said to be trying their best to restore the situation. I think it's thanks to these people that the Japanese seem to have a higher IQ than the rest of Asia. But I fear that by now this IQ legacy has been swallowed up by our low-IQ society. During the period from the late 1970s to the 1980s, I went to various "international conferences" all over the world, and wherever I went, I met a few Japanese. There are Akio Morita (Sony), Ichiro Hattori (Epson), Yotaro Kobayashi (Fuji-Xerox), and Toshiaki Ogasawara (Lifuco).

Every time I go here, I meet Morita and Ogasawara, and when I go there, I meet Hattori and Kobayashi. "Ah, we meet again", no matter where we are, everyone will greet each other. Every time we met, we would be extremely excited to discuss such issues as "Japan's operations around the world", "our position on the confrontation between Japan and the United States", and so on. At that time, these people often appeared on TV programs and had discussions with some scholars and economists in the United States.I still clearly remember that they once had a debate on the issue of "Japan-US trade war" in an NHK (Japan Broadcasting Association) program. There is also the one-hour "Anatomy of the Japanese Economy" played three consecutive nights during the Golden Week, as a reward for Professor Galbraith. At that time, Tetsuo Kondo, head of the Economic Planning Agency, conducted a thorough analysis of the positions of Japan and the United States under the title "What is the Government Planning Agency doing?" I was the moderator at that time.

Because no one is doing the planning of this kind of program now, and it doesn't have high ratings, so there are very few talents in Japan who study this kind of issues. Of course, the outrageous interference of politicians is also one of the reasons. They believe that "these programs are strongly anti-government and should be banned." Although programs such as NHK's BS often broadcast some small discussions about the economy and the world situation, the discussants are not authoritative enough, and the discussions they do make people feel no sense of urgency. Also, some good programs on international issues and the global economy are bought from abroad, such as BBC documentaries. Now even NHK will not do discussion programs about the future of Japan.

In short, Japan now lacks international talents. It is a pity that no one can be called the successor of Akio Morita economically. They are all people who have neither connotation nor integrity... Although such a person can chatter on and on, once he is asked "how do you think about it", he will be speechless. If it was Mr. Morita, he would have been able to answer "I think so..." at that time.
