Chapter 24 Rarely see Japanese at international conferences

Now I am often invited to give lectures all over the world. This is my consistent daily work, whether it is at McKinsey before, now, and in the future. But I found that there are no other Japanese in the world who do this kind of management consulting lectures except me.Saying this may make you think I'm a bit arrogant, but it's true.Japan has no talented people who can give speeches internationally, and this situation is already very serious.Mr. Morita didn’t talk about it when he was there, but until now I still take the lead every time. If this situation is not reversed, I’m afraid Japan’s voice will disappear on the world stage in the future.

My overseas speaking salary is US$50,000 per session (including airfare and accommodation costs). The reason why I will "mark the price" is because it is determined by the market value of the speeches I give.My wish is that if a person can come out of Japan, even if he can earn $5,000 for a speech, I will be gratified. Considering the scale of Japan's economy, it is not an exaggeration to say that more than 100 people can give related economic speeches. As I said before, there is another kind of talent who can only speak English. They only know English, and they don't have the content of the topic in their minds, so most of them are just so-called "input scholars".

Japanese management scientists and economists tend to fall into a strange circle, that is, blindly follow the opinions of famous foreign economists. For example, when they hear "Michael Porter said...", they will go abroad to listen to Michael Porter's lectures. In my opinion, these behaviors are meaningless. If Michael Porter's insight had been so important, I think the organizers would have asked me to listen to it almost as well. My consistent view is that, based on the "regional state theory" and "borderless economy theory", I always remind myself to update my concepts. For this reason, in 2007, I traveled to the United Kingdom, Italy, Turkey, Russia, Romania, Greece, Brazil, but I have never been to the United States.Arguably, this again strikes me as the declining power of the US, more so Japan.

Many countries in the world believe that my theory is feasible. Many countries are looking for a future based on the basic framework I have constructed. "How does Omae think about the future of our country? What should we do in the future?" In short, all countries are groping their way to economic prosperity. Even so, I am still powerless and unable to think of any countermeasures against the state of a low-IQ society that has gradually formed since Koizumi came to power. So for our Far Eastern country, I can only turn a blind eye. Gathering the world's elite, there are many Japanese at the Davos Economic Forum held in Switzerland every year, ranging from businessmen, bureaucrats, scholars, and politicians. At the Davos Forum in 2008, Fukuda's speech did not attract people's attention at all, and among the representatives of Asia, the speech of Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was the most eye-catching.

Today's Japanese elites completely regard participating in the Davos Forum as their own goal.Although it is said to have "went", just like sightseeing, it is just a study tour of the conference.Of course, there is no one who can really make a powerful speech at the conference. Because of this, the Japanese would say "Bill Gates' speech was really good" to everyone they met after returning home, which is tantamount to being an audience for a while. The above is the current situation in Japan where the "stupid phenomenon" is rampant, and I have briefly presented it to readers. Here, I want to answer the question posed at the beginning of this chapter. The answer is: "The phenomenon of low IQ occurs because of lack of thinking."

This question can be summed up in this sentence. But with just this one sentence, the problem is far from being resolved. After reading this, if you already feel the crisis like me, then in the following chapters, please join me in disclosing the "low IQ phenomenon" in your life, and carefully start from "what", "how", "no Thinking" from these three angles to analyze and explore countermeasures together.
