Record of Liaoshen Campaign 姚有志 31275Words 2018-03-14
Jinzhou is the main throat from the pass to the northeast. It was called "Mountain and Sea Key" in ancient times. The capture of Jinzhou can close the Northeast Kuomintang army, forming a trend of "closing the door and beating the dog". Jinzhou is also the gateway to Shenyang. The capture of Jinzhou also opened the door to Shenyang. Over the past few months, Mao Zedong and the Central Military Commission have repeatedly emphasized the capture of Jinzhou in the policy of the Liaoshen Campaign and several telegram instructions.Since September 12th, the Northeast Field Army captured Changli and the area west of it, cutting off the connection between the enemy Jinzhou and Tangshan. Especially after capturing Yixian at the end of September, the enemy of Jinzhou was completely surrounded by our army. .

After eliminating the enemies on the outskirts of Jinzhou, Lin Biao, Luo Ronghuan, and Liu Yalou adjusted their deployment: While clearing the outer strongholds of Jinzhou, our 4th and 11th columns and two independent divisions in Rehe blocked 9 enemy divisions from Jinxi and Huludao in the Tashan area, more than 30 miles south of Jinzhou. This is the soldiers on the Tashan position rushing to repair the fortifications day and night, preparing to annihilate the enemy reinforcements in Jinzhou With the 17th Division of the Second, Third, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth and Sixth Columns, a total of 16 divisions and the main artillery column with a total of 250,000 troops, attacked and wiped out the enemy in Jinzhou.

With four verticals, eleven verticals, and two independent divisions, under the unified command of Cheng Zihua, the commander of the Second Corps, it is located on the Tashan and Hongluoxian (Jinxi old city) lines north of Jinxi, and deals with the Jinzhou aid from Jinxi. enemy. Actively operate near Shanhaiguan with the Independent Eighth Division to confuse and contain the enemy. With five verticals, ten verticals, six verticals (less than the seventeenth division), the third division of one vertical, the second independent division, and the first cavalry division of the Inner Mongolia Military Region, they are located in the Zhangwu and Xinlitun areas. The commander of the sixth vertical, Huang Yongsheng, Political commissar Lai Chuanzhu unified command, preparing to meet the Westward Aid Jin Corps commanded by Liao Yaoxiang.

With the twelve verticals, we marched southward from the Changchun area to Tongjiang Estuary, and diverted them to the south on standby to contain the enemy from Shenyang.Five independent divisions were added, together with the 6 independent divisions that had been tasked with besieging Changchun and the 20 second divisions of the Inner Mongolia Cavalry, under the command of the commander of the First Corps Xiao Jinguang, continued to besiege the enemy in Changchun. Sitting in Jinzhou is the deputy commander-in-chief of the Northeast "Suppression General" and the director of the Jinzhou Advance Command Center, Lieutenant General Fan Hanjie.

Fan Hanjie was born on October 29, 1896 in Zili Village, Sanhe Town, Dapu County, Guangdong Province. His father was a principal of a rural primary school. After graduating from the first phase of the Whampoa Military Academy, Fan Hanjie has been serving in Chiang Kai-shek's direct line of troops. Although he has not had any impressive achievements in the army for decades, he is loyal to Chiang Kai-shek, so he is also appreciated by Chiang Kai-shek, and his official position has risen steadily. , successively served as the head of the 29th Regiment of the 10th Division of the Fourth Army of the National Revolutionary Army, the deputy commander of the 10th Division, the commander of the Garrison Division, the director of the Education Department of the Central Military School, the commander of the 27th Army, and the 38th Group Army. Commander-in-Chief, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the First Theater, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ministry of National Defense, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Army, etc.

Fan Hanjie didn't want to come to the Northeast, let alone Jinzhou. He was forced to take office by Chiang Kai-shek. In January 1948, Fan Hanjie, who was leisurely serving as deputy commander-in-chief in the Nanjing Army General Headquarters, suddenly received an order from Chiang Kai-shek to concurrently serve as the commander of the Jire-Liaoning Border Region. Not long after Fan Hanjie took office on Qinhuangdao, Chiang Kai-shek saw that Wei Lihuang had repeatedly defied his will, so he wanted Fan Hanjie to succeed Wei Lihuang in charge of the military power in the Northeast. The title of Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Northeast "Suppression General" was added to the website, and the Jire-Liao Border Region Command was subsequently changed to the Jinzhou Command Post.

Fan Hanjie saw that Chen Cheng, Wei Lihuang and others could not command the troops in the Northeast. He thought that he was inferior to Chen and Wei in terms of qualifications and abilities. He resigned to Chiang Kai-shek on the pretext that his family members were yet to be resettled in Guangzhou.Chiang Kai-shek did not allow Fan Hanjie to resign, but gave him a one-month leave to go to Guangzhou to resettle his family members, and told Song Ziwen, chairman of Guangdong Province, to take care of Fan Hanjie's family members. Fan Hanjie was forced to take office in Jinzhou after a one-month delay. Not long after taking office, conflicts arose with Wei Lihuang on issues such as troop formation and personnel transfer.Fan Hanjie also knew that Wei Lihuang was afraid that he would seize his military power, so he was always on guard against him.He believed that the generals were at odds and it would be difficult to fight, so he once again submitted his resignation to Chiang Kai-shek and Gu Zhutong, but was not approved. On July 19, Fan Hanjie was called to Nanjing to report to Chiang Kai-shek. After reporting the situation of the troops, he stated a lot of reasons and offered to resign.Chiang Kai-shek got impatient, knocked on the floor with his cane, and reprimanded him: "If you don't do it, what should I do?" Then, pointing to Fan Hanjie's nose, he sternly ordered: "Limit to you!" Return to the original defense area before July 20!"

Seeing that his resignation was not approved, Fan Hanjie was very distressed, but his loyalty to Chiang Kai-shek over the years made him "still take military obedience as his bounden duty, and return to Jinzhou to continue serving and preparing for war in times of crisis with the overall situation in mind." After Fan Hanjie arrived in Jinzhou, he first inspected the city's fortifications and defenses for a week.Since Wei Lihuang arrived in Shenyang, he ordered Li Xian, the engineer commander of the "Suppression General", to be responsible for the design and construction of Jinzhou's city defense fortifications.According to Wei Lihuang's requirements, the city defense fortification should be a permanent fortress with reinforced concrete structure. The headquarters will distribute cement, steel bars and other materials, and the officers of the engineering units of each army and division will serve as technical guidance. Fortification drawing construction.

The design of the engineering headquarters of the "Suppression General" is that the Jinzhou city defense fortifications use the company as a combat unit to build a strong stronghold, which is composed of closed tunnels and mother-in-law bunkers. Even if it is surrounded by four sides, it can still fight independently. In the shelter of the company command post, enough ammunition and food should be stored, as well as kitchens, toilets, health centers and other equipment.Outer trenches of 2 meters in width and depth should be dug outside the positions, and barbed wire fences should be erected. However, this huge project was not completed due to insufficient materials. From May to September when the People's Liberation Army encircled Jinzhou, only one-third of the city's fortifications were completed as required.Due to the lack of steel and cement, most of the fortifications just built independent cement bunkers. The largest can accommodate a squad, and the smallest can only accommodate an infantry group.

Fan Hanjie was disappointed and deeply worried about Jinzhou's city defense fortifications.Soon, Wei Lihuang, accompanied by Li Xian, came to inspect the construction of the fortifications. Fan Hanjie immediately suggested to Wei Lihuang that the progress of the Jinzhou city defense fortifications was too slow and of low quality, and it was difficult to resist the attack of the People's Liberation Army. He asked for more funding. In particular, we will speed up the transportation of steel bars and cement materials that are urgently needed for the construction of fortifications. After the inspection, Wei Lihuang was very satisfied, and said to Fan Hanjie: "When Jiangxi was fighting against the communist army, where was there such a concrete fortification? We could win the battle at that time, and now we have such a fortification, and there is no problem."

Wei Lihuang ignored Fan Hanjie's request, and Fan Hanjie said angrily later: "This is the style of the Kuomintang army that has always exaggerated itself, underestimated the enemy, and deceived itself. It is very beautifully drawn on the defense equipment map, with solid fortification equipment and careful planning. It was made of fire nets. In fact, it was just a piece of empty paper, which could not withstand the wind and rain, and it would be broken when it was blown. The so-called modern reinforced concrete fortifications in Jinzhou were all destroyed after 31 hours of fierce fighting by the People's Liberation Army." At that time, in and around Jinzhou City, the troops under the command of Fan Hanjie mainly included Shen Xiangkui's New Eighth Army (temporary 54th, temporary 55th, and temporary 88th divisions), Sheng Jiaxing's 93rd army (temporary 18th, temporary 20. Temporary 22nd Division), Huang Wenhui's 88th Division, Yang Chaolun's 184th Division directly under the Sixth Corps, and the field artillery battalion directly under the Jinzhou Command Post, 105 howitzers and 1 tank company, a total of 8 divisions, more than 100,000 people.Among the above-mentioned units, the Temporary 54th, Temporary 55th, 88th and 184th Divisions were all reorganized after being annihilated by the Northeast People's Liberation Army. Most of these units are recruits, and the number of soldiers is not sufficient, most of which have not reached the original number of establishments. For example, the 55th Division has only more than 4,000 people, which is less than half of the original strength. With such a dilapidated army to undertake the task of guarding Jinzhou, Fan Hanjie felt uncertain, so he had to gather all the main forces to defend Jinzhou with 7 divisions, and made the following deployment of troops: (1) temporarily The 54th Division was responsible for the defense of Zijing Mountain in the east of Jinzhou to Songshan in the southeast; the 55th Division was responsible for the defense of Nanshan; The Sixth Corps is directly under the 184th Division and the 93rd Army (the 20th Division in the near future) responsible for the west of Jinzhou from the highland on the west side of Nuerhe Station, through the 188th highland, Erlangdong, the synthetic combustion plant, and the water distribution pool to the city hall. (3) The 20th Division temporarily defends Yixian County; (4) The 88th Division is the general reserve of the Jinzhou Command Post. At the beginning of October 1948, Lin Biao led the field army headquarters to set off from Zhangwu to the front line.Su Jing, director of the Operation Department of the Wild Division, returned to the headquarters from the three columns. Lin and Luo first asked about Zhu Rui's sacrifice, and then listened to the situation and experience of conquering Yi County.Su reported two points: First, Yi County did not have as much experience in defending the city as the KMT troops. Sometimes they left the city defense fortifications to attack and were wiped out.The second is that the siege troops used to dig trenches to meet the enemy, and dug all the way to the starting point of the attack. This experience came from the Second Vertical and Fifth Division, and Commander Han Xianchu promoted their experience.Since the troops met the enemy with the help of traffic trenches, casualties were reduced, the attack was more sudden, and the fight was smoother. Lin and Luo agreed on two points.Lin Biao asked Su Jing to deliver a verbal order, asking the Third Column and the Second Column and Fifth Division to immediately go south to the north of Jinzhou City overnight to prepare for the attack. The field army's frontline headquarters entered Mangniutun in the northwest of Jinzhou overnight, about 18 kilometers away from Jinzhou City.According to the changes in the enemy's situation, Lin, Luo, and Liu made measures to deal with Yuanjin: The Jinxi enemy position extends north to Daxiaodong Mountain in the southeast of Tashan Mountain, and the Jinzhou enemy position extends south to the village near Songshan Street. The gap between the two places is only more than 30 li.Lin Biao decided to use the fourth column and the eleventh column in this area, adopt offensive defense (not mobile defense) to resist and consume the enemy, and control the main force to prepare to counterattack in front of the position, taking advantage of the victory to expand the victory. In addition, two independent divisions will attack from Jinxihudao to the enemy's side to hold the enemy back. The enemy in Shenyang, with 4 to 5 armies, will gather in the area south of Xinmin and east of Liaohe, and will probably not be dispatched until after we formally attack Jin.Lin Biao planned to use the tenth column and one division of the first column (the third division) to fight against the enemy, and use two divisions of the sixth column (less than the seventeenth division), and all the fifth and twelfth columns to support the tenth column. Combat, take a mobile warfare approach, strike the enemy from the side of the enemy and buy time. After the battle to attack Jinxi, the Jinxi reinforcements may retreat to the original Jinxi position, or stop at the spot and dare not advance further. The enemy going south from Shenyang is in a dilemma. At this time, the main force of attacking Jin will return to the division to annihilate the enemy going south and secure Jinzhou. The next step is to attack Jinxi, but if the enemy coming out of Jinxi is cut off before retreating south, the enemy coming out of Jinxi should be wiped out first in front of the position. Yesi's observation command post is located on Mao'er Mountain near Jinzhou North 459 Highland. Lin, Luo, and Liu wanted to see the terrain, which is the commander's habit. The combat staff prepared maps, binoculars, carts, and horses.Luo Ronghuan had undergone a major operation, and the staff members were worried whether he could survive the trek. Luo Ronghuan said with a smile: "What's the big deal? I don't believe that the hill of more than 400 meters can't be climbed. Chairman Mao criticized our field commander for not moving forward to Jinzhou for a long time, which limited our vision. Now that we have arrived near Jinzhou, how can we rely on the map command without going to see the terrain in person?" Lin Biao was unsmiling, as if he hadn't woken up, and walked silently.Liu Yalou happily talked to the staff officers. At 11 o'clock on October 14, our army in the Northeast concentrated 5 columns of troops to launch a general attack on Jinzhou defending the enemy. By 18 o'clock on the 15th, after 31 hours of fierce fighting, more than 100,000 people defending the enemy were wiped out, and the deputy commander-in-chief of the Northeast "Suppression General" was captured alive Fan Hanjie liberated the strategically important city and completed the closure of the road to the southward escape of the enemy army in Shenyang. This is Lin Biao (right), commander of the Northeast Field Army, political commissar Luo Ronghuan (left), and chief of staff Liu Yalou (middle) commanding operations on the front line of Jinzhou In October in the Northeast, autumn is breezy and crisp.Lin and Luo got out of the car, rode horses and walked a section of the mountain road, and climbed Mao'er Mountain.Standing on the mountain and looking far away, you can see the whole city of Jinzhou and the main highlands around it at a glance. Lin Biao, Luo Ronghuan, and Liu Yalou listened to the reports of the staff officers, while carefully observing the terrain around Jinzhou and the fortifications around the city with binoculars. Suddenly, there was a buzzing sound in the air, and three enemy planes flew from the north, bombed and strafed Mao'er Mountain at low altitude, and a bomb fell on the mountainside and exploded, setting off a cloud of smoke and dust. "How is the pre-war preparation of the siege troops? How are the main attacking verticals fighting? Are you sure?" Luo Ronghuan turned around and asked Liu Yalou. "The preparations for the siege are being actively carried out. The troops are in high spirits, and they are confident in capturing Jinzhou City. We have notified the experience of attacking Yixian County and digging traffic ditches to all verticals. In order to reduce casualties, we require the troops who will attack Jinzhou to enter the position. Finally, hurry up and dig the traffic ditches.” "The most important guarantee for attacking Jinzhou is to block the enemy forces in Jinxi. If the enemy cannot be blocked, the troops attacking Jin will be greatly threatened." Lin Biao was still worried about Jinxi Huludao. "The four-column troops have arrived in Tashan, Baitaishan, Gaoqiao and other areas successively in the past two days. They have been ordered to deploy tenacious offensive defenses in Tashan, Gaoqiao and the west and north, and are now actively building fortifications. We are also There are eleven columns. A total of two columns and two independent divisions will block the enemy and ensure that we can conquer Jinzhou. I think there is no problem." Liu Yalou replied in a firm tone. Luo Ronghuan remained silent while looking at the terrain.Just when he left Mao'er Mountain, he said to the staff: "You have worked very hard on the mountain, you should take turns to rest, and report any situation at any time." On the 8th, Lin and Liu led Yan Zhongchuan and a small number of people to survey the terrain again. They went to the hilltop 115 in the south of Maoer Mountain and instructed Han Xianchu, the commander of the third column, to further clarify the attack target and breakthrough point, and on the spot to organize infantry coordination. And other issues.Lin Biao was most concerned about the terrain and assault deployment of Gongjin's main assault group. He repeatedly emphasized: "The enemy's situation can change at any time, but the terrain will not change. It is very important for the commander to clearly understand the terrain and choose the breakthrough." After on-site investigation, Lin Biao decided to make the breakthrough Choose in the north of the city.Concentrate superior forces and weapons from the north of the city as a key breakthrough, in order to quickly open the breakthrough, use strong forces to develop in depth against the enemy, expand the results of the battle, take advantage of the enemy's defeat and chaos, and divide and annihilate the enemy. Su Jing further reported in detail to Lin Biao the experience of the siege of Yixian County, especially the experience of digging trenches to meet the enemy. When Lin Biao heard that close operations were being used to dig ditches to meet the enemy, he asked, "How many troops will it take to dig?" Su Jing said: "According to the chief of staff of the fifth division: "Except for the sharp knife company, most of the troops should be used to rush to dig day and night, and dig a few more traffic ditches until the place where the charge starts is approaching. " Lin Biao attached great importance to this experience, and immediately instructed all the columns and divisions attacking Jin to make full use of their experience in digging traffic ditches during the battle in Yixian. When digging traffic ditches, only the sharp-edged troops are left behind to make full assault preparations, and we must not only rely on a small number of troops to dig traffic ditches. He also pointed out that the basic task of the Northeast Army in the future is to attack big cities, so all ministries must lay a solid foundation in terms of ideology and style during this ditch digging. In this way, a major factor of victory will be added to future operations. Lin Biao said to Su Jing: "Jinzhou's terrain is conducive to my firepower. It seems that there is no problem in capturing Jinzhou. The key lies in whether you can hold the front line of Tashan to block the reinforcements. You have to go to Tashan and tell the leaders of the four verticals. I hope they will fight hard. Resolutely hold the ground and create exemplary defensive battles of heroism and tenacity." Luo Ronghuan also said to Su Jing: "The direction of Tashan is very important. Some troops have some concerns about the casualty meeting when they fight, but this time we must not be afraid of heavy casualties. We must resolutely block it. Some comrades did not have much experience in this kind of defensive warfare in the past. We consider you to go to the four verticals to study with them and tell them that this battle must be fought well, and you can contact us in time if there is any situation." Su Jing understood that Lin and Luo were worried that their determination to defend would be shaken when the troops suffered heavy casualties, which would affect the attack on Jinzhou and affect the battle situation. He followed the instructions and immediately set off for Sizong. On the morning of October 9, Lin Biao and Luo Ronghuan came to Guanyin Cave, the second vertical command post located in the northwest of Jinzhou, only 3 kilometers away from the city center. They boarded Jiangbudou Mountain in the morning, inspected the terrain carefully, and had lunch on the mountain with Liu Zhen, the commander of the Second Column. In the afternoon, Lin and Luo clarified the combat deployment for attacking Jin to several leading cadres of the Second Column. Lin Biao asked Liu Zhen: "Do you think it is better to attack during the day or at night? After breaking through the city defense, can the battle be resolved overnight?" Luo Ronghuan further explained: "Our biggest worry is that we will not be able to attack the city, the city defense will not be broken through, the main force of our army will be stuck, and the enemy's reinforcements from the east and west will come up again. This battle will not be easy to fight." Liu Zhen said: "The general attack during the day can give full play to the role of our artillery, and our artillery fire is already superior to the enemy's, and we can better destroy the enemy's fortifications during the day. As long as there are two or three of the five attacking columns in this battle If a column breaks through the enemy's defenses, all five columns will be able to break into the city, so it is more certain to deal with the enemy overnight. As long as the city defenses are breached, it will not be a stalemate." Lin and Luo also asked about the specific deployment and preparations of the Second Column for the combat missions of each division. Liu Zhen replied: "We are determined to clear out the outer strongholds with the fourth and sixth divisions, and the fifth division will be responsible for breaking through the city defense." Lin Biao asked worriedly: "If the Fourth Division and the Sixth Division cannot clear the enemy strongholds outside Jinzhou in time, the general offensive will be affected. Can the two divisions break through at the same time to create conditions for the Fifth Division?" Liu Zhen also made a detailed report on the use of artillery fire, soil work and the deployment of clearing outlying strongholds, explaining that according to the plan, the enemy's outlying strongholds can be cleared before the evening of the 13th. Lin and Luo expressed their satisfaction, and asked Liu Zhen to find Han Xianchu, the commander of the third column, to discuss the coordination issue of breaking through side by side face to face. Liu Zhen and Han Xianchu are old comrades-in-arms. In the early days of joining the Red Army, they were in the same squad, and then served as military and political leaders in the same battalion. are more familiar. After consultation, they expressed to each other that according to the requirements of the headquarters and the combat readiness of the two columns to attack Jin from the northwest, they were confident that they would complete the task of breaking through side by side. The deployment of Jinzhou has been basically completed. Lin Biao made a distinction between the siege troops: Most of the artillery fire of the second and third columns and the artillery column attacked from north to south, while the artillery and arsonist part of the seventh and ninth columns attacked from south to north. The artillery regiment attached to the eight columns attacked from east to west. The first step is to eliminate the enemies in the eastern half of the city, and then destroy the enemies in the western half and the airport. The first column (belonging to the third division) is located between Jinzhou and Tashan, as the general reserve team for blocking aid and attacking Jinzhou. After surveying the topography of the Jinzhou city wall and its surroundings and the defense system of the enemy, it was stipulated that the north of the city should be the main focus of the assault. After clearing out the outer strongholds, they immediately opened the gap in the city wall with infantry and launched a rapid assault.Lin Biao believes that the development of the war situation may turn into an unprecedented decisive battle in the Northeast. Shot 1: Capture the big and small Bauhinia Mountains. The mountain is an important barrier to the east of Jinzhou City, facing Nanshan (182.4 highland) 4 miles southwest of the city, with Jinshen Railway, Highway and Xiaoling River passing through in the middle, and it is the main throat in the east of Jinzhou. The defenders attached great importance to the large and small Bauhinia Mountains, and the temporary 54th Division defended them. They built various field fortifications and some permanent fortifications, forming a tight firepower network. The 3rd Battalion of the 69th Regiment of the 23rd Division of the Eighth Column attacked the Great Bauhinia Mountain with the support of artillery fire. After two hours of fierce fighting, they occupied the main peak of the Great Bauhinia Mountain. On the 6th, the 3rd Battalion of the 68th Regiment of the 23rd Division occupied the Little Bauhinia Mountain on the south side of the Great Bauhinia Mountain. On that day, a battalion of the enemy left Jinzhou by train, entered the southwest side of Little Bauhinia Mountain, and launched a counterattack against Little Bauhinia Mountain under the cover of artillery and air fire.Due to the mental paralysis of the defensive troops, they were not prepared to fight against the enemy's counterattack, and Xiaozijing Mountain was captured by the enemy again. The enemy launched a frenzied counterattack to the Great Bauhinia Mountain position again, trying in vain to occupy the Great Bauhinia Mountain again. The 3rd Company of the 1st Battalion of the 70th Regiment defended tenaciously, defeated the enemy's 4 consecutive attacks, and held the high ground. The 3rd Battalion of the 68th Regiment summed up the experience of the previous battle and the lessons of the loss of Little Bauhinia Mountain. On the 10th, it launched another attack on Little Bauhinia Mountain. After a fierce battle, more than 400 enemies were wiped out, and Little Bauhinia Mountain was recaptured. Shot 2: The North Camp was captured. The Beida Camp in the northeast corner of Jinzhou is an important enemy stronghold, defending the enemy is the 1st Battalion of the 3rd Regiment of the Temporary 54th Division. The surrounding terrain is open, the fortifications are strong, and there are various secondary defense facilities. The 70th Regiment of the 24th Division of the Eighth Column is the main offensive, and the 72nd Regiment is the second echelon. At 1:00 a.m. on the 11th, artillery preparations were carried out. The enemy bunkers in the northeast corner of the Beida Camp were destroyed one by one, and the walls were blasted. After one and a half hours of fierce fighting, all the Beida Camp was occupied, more than a hundred enemies were killed, and the rest defended the enemy and surrendered. Shot 3: Seizing Bajiazi and Clothing Factory. The Bajiazi and Clothing Factory were the enemy's last two strongholds in the east of Jinzhou, and the 23rd Division was responsible for capturing them. The 67th Regiment attacked Bajiazi, and the 68th Regiment attacked the quilt factory. They launched attacks at the same time in the early morning of the 13th.After more than two hours of fierce fighting, the 67th Regiment occupied Bajiazi and wiped out more than 500 people from the 3rd Battalion of the 2nd Regiment of the 54th Division. The regiment went out to Baili Street and approached the city wall of Jinzhou. The enemy immediately organized artillery fire and firepower on the city wall to shoot at them, and launched several attacks in an attempt to retake Baili Street, but they were all defeated by the 67th regiment. After the 68th Regiment launched an attack on the clothing factory, it blew up several bunkers outside the east gate of the clothing factory in succession. The vanguard immediately rushed into the courtyard to meet the enemy hand-to-hand. After two hours of fierce fighting, they completely occupied the clothing factory. Scene 4: The battle for Xishan. The breakthrough battle of the 71st Regiment of the 24th Division of the Eighth Vertical in the Xishan of the Beidaying was quite fierce. The attack was launched in the early morning of the 13th. At that time, the morning fog was pervasive, the visibility was extremely poor, and the artillery fire preparation failed to achieve the expected effect. The blasting team had to be forced to carry out continuous blasting under enemy fire, causing many casualties. Two paths were opened up in the enemy obstacle area. The troops launched an impact, and the enemy's deep artillery fire and forward fire fired wildly, closing the passage. When the third battalion attacked the enemy's No. 3 bunker, the sharpshooter, combat hero, battalion commander Ping'an Fu of the former Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei military region, and the commander of the 89th company died one after another. The troops suffered heavy casualties and the attack failed. The first battalion developed rapidly, and the first company and the second company acted bravely. They broke into the enemy's position in only 5 minutes and captured the No. 1 and No. 2 bunkers. But for the time being, the 54th Division defended the enemy and carried out continuous counterattacks. Our army repelled the enemy's 3 counterattacks, and took advantage of the momentum to occupy the enemy's No. 3 bunker group.Unwilling to fail, the Kuomintang Army mobilized two battalions of the Temporary Eighteenth Division to launch a fourth counterattack under the supervision of Division Commander Jingyang. There are only 17 people left in my first company, and only 23 people left in my second company. The ammunition is also exhausted. The situation is very serious.Just when the Kuomintang army launched its fifth counterattack, the 2nd echelon of the regiment went into battle in time and finally suppressed the enemy. Shot 5: Clean up the "regiment management area" and "teacher management area".The Second Column used the Fourth Division and the Sixth Division to eliminate the peripheral enemies, and the Fifth Division was responsible for the breakthrough task. The Sixth Division first seized the synthetic fuel plant from the right wing, and then cleared all the strongholds outside the northwest gate of the enemy (the "regiment management area" and "division management area"), and approached the city on the west side of the northwest gate; the fourth division first seized 12 mu of land from the left wing, And cleared all the former strongholds of 12 mu of land (including the strongholds on the east side of the "regiment management area" and "division management area"), and approached the city on the east side of the northwest gate.At the same time, the two divisions each dug a traffic trench along their own attacking area, which was on both sides of the northwest gate of the city, so that the fifth division could break through the city defenses and the fourth and sixth divisions could enter deep battles, and cooperate with the third column to break through from the north of the city side by side. The enemy in the north of the railway and the station area, and then continued to develop in depth, dividing and annihilating the enemy defending Jinzhou. Liu Zhen emphasized at the column combat meeting: "The enemy has set up strong strongholds on the outskirts of Jinzhou, especially in the highlands northwest of the city, which has the largest support points among the outlying strongholds. The Fourth Division and the Sixth Division must resolutely eliminate the peripheral enemies on time. Otherwise, It will definitely affect the general offensive and the victory of the entire battle." Zhang Zhicheng, the commander of the Sixth Division, clearly saw from the telescope that the synthetic fuel plant, the regiment management area, and the 12 mu of land echoed the water distribution pool on the east side and the stronghold of the White Tiger Village, forming an important barrier in the northwest of Jinzhou City. These outlying strongholds formed a circular defense, surrounded by bunkers, and connected traffic trenches were dug between the bunkers. The outer circle of the bunker group had walls, and inside were barbed wire, deer villages, plum blossom piles and other obstacles. No wonder the enemy boasted that the strongholds in this area were the "Second Verdun" and "Little Maginot" lines of defense.Fan Hanjie wanted to use this shield to block the People's Liberation Army, and deliberately drew two elite battalions from the 18th Division and the 22nd Division to defend. Zhang Jiecheng and political commissar Li Shaoyuan deployed the division's combat mission to break through the periphery: the 18th Regiment was responsible for capturing the synthetic fuel factory; the 17th Regiment was mainly responsible for blocking the reinforcements of the enemy's temporary 18th Division, except for one company that feinted to the west bank of the Xiaoling River , to ensure the safety of the right wing of the 18th Regiment, and then transferred to the first echelon of the division to fight with the main attacking force into the city. The 16th Regiment was responsible for capturing the Heishan Regiment area. The regiment finally captured the regiment area. On the evening of the 10th, the 3rd Battalion of the 18th Regiment approached the bunker group on the north side of the Synthetic Fuel Plant by means of underground soil work, and took the initiative to request an early attack. Wading across the trench, he was shot by the enemy's dark fire, but failed to achieve his goal. On the 11th, Zhang wholeheartedly went to the 18th Regiment to conduct careful organization with the head of the regiment, and launched an attack again. With the support of strong firepower, the attacking troops went forward one after another, blasted continuously, cleared landmines, destroyed more than 30 bunkers and bunkers, and repelled the enemy's 3 counterattacks. After a fierce battle, one battalion of the 550th Regiment of the 34th Division defending the enemy was wiped out, and the synthetic fuel plant was occupied. The Sixth Division also explored the method of launching mountain artillery to attack the enemy's reinforced concrete bunker. First, it used two unfused shells to penetrate the outer shell of the bunker, and then used one or two fuzed shells to destroy the bunker, but three shells had to be fired. at one point.Column immediately popularized this method. Hu Jicheng, the commander of the Fourth Division, and Li Shian, the political commissar, handed over the task of attacking 12 acres of land to the 12th Regiment. When the regiment rushed to the outer trench, it encountered obstacles in the deep water of the outer trench. The brave soldiers used their bodies as piers to build human bridges, and the support troops quickly captured the enemy's stronghold. The largest stronghold in the northwestern outskirts of the city, the "regiment management area", has relatively high terrain, and there are obstacles such as outer trenches, barbed wire fences, deer villages, plum blossom piles, and minefields.Defend the enemy with about 1 regiment of troops, relying on two strong buildings and bunkers to form a defensive system.Liu Zhen ordered the Sixteenth Regiment of the Sixth Division to break through from the northwest and southwest, and the Twelfth Regiment of the Fourth Division to break through at two points from the east, and then jointly attacked and wiped out the enemy. On the 11th and 12th day and night, the troops carried out intense approach operations and combat preparations.Several serpentine traffic trenches with a length of 2,500 meters were dug, extending to more than 40 meters from the enemy's front bunker.Artillery can be passed in the trench, so that all attacking troops will be transferred underground. Artillery preparations began at 10:00 on the 13th, and the attack was launched at 10:30.After continuous attacks and repeated struggles, the 12th Regiment successfully broke through in the northeast corner and repelled the enemy's counterattack, consolidating the breakthrough. When an enemy battalion counterattacked with the cooperation of tanks, regiment leader Yan Wenbin personally led a company to repel the enemy, and immediately launched an attack in depth. Zhao Yongfu, the deputy commander of the Sixth Division, went to the Sixteenth Regiment to command the battle, and was injured at the beginning of the fierce battle.Xue Fuli, deputy head of the 16th Regiment, led the 3rd Battalion to attack. The blasters blasted two breakthroughs in a row.The third battalion quickly fought in depth, fighting for the barracks one after another.Cadres and soldiers had suffered many casualties. The commander of the third battalion, Zhao Xianshun, was wounded and could not leave the line of fire, and insisted on commanding the troops. The soldiers rushed over, repelled the enemy's 6 counter-charges in a row, and occupied 4 houses successively. The second battalion and the first battalion also launched attacks on the enemy in the eastern building area and southwest of the regiment management area respectively. The fourth company first seized the first two buildings, and was counterattacked by the enemy. The fifth company and the sixth company quickly went into battle and occupied the building in the southeast of the regiment management area.Three of the four battalion cadres of the second battalion were injured. The first battalion went into battle along the route of the third battalion, completely annihilating the enemy defending in the southern part of the regiment's area.At 1 p.m. that day, all the troops occupied the regiment area and wiped out one regiment defending the enemy. Then, Commander Liu Zhen urgently ordered the Fourth Division and the Sixth Division to capture the "division area".When the troops were nervously preparing to attack, the "division area" guarded the enemy intimidated by the power of our army, gave up their position and fled into the city. After the 11th regiment noticed it, they followed up with a battalion and intercepted and wiped out a part of the fleeing enemy at the edge of the city.So far, the Second Column has seized the enemy's outlying stronghold in the northwest of the city, and dug through two traffic trenches that approach the two sides of the northwest gate.Liu Zhen reported to Chief of Staff Liu Yalou: The task of clearing out the enemy's outlying strongholds can be completed on the 13th. Shot 6: A fierce battle with a pool. The Kuomintang army set up two large and strong strongholds in the distribution pool on the northern outskirts of the city and Dajieda on Liangma Mountain. One east and one west, forming a corner, covering the city wall of Jinzhou. In particular, the base of the distribution pool is condescending, overlooking the whole city, and controls a wide avenue leading to Jinzhou.During the Anti-Japanese War, the Japanese invading army used it as a city defense fortress of Jinzhou City, and built a large number of reinforced concrete permanent fortifications and masonry semi-permanent fortifications. The Kuomintang army worked hard for another 3 years. Taking Dabailou as the axis, they dug two deep trenches inside and outside, and erected 3 barbed wire fences. The enemy at this stronghold is a strengthened battalion of the 22nd Division temporarily organized, with more than 800 people, all of whom are veterans with rich combat experience and strong combat effectiveness. The defending enemy thinks that the distribution pool is an insurmountable line of defense. They wrote arrogantly on the Dabai Building: "The distribution tank is the second Verdun", "The distribution tank is guarded by hard men". Commander Han Xianchu of the Three Columns and Political Commissar Luo Shunchu assigned the task of attacking the distribution pool to the Seventh Division. Deng Yue, the commander of the Seventh Division, asked the head of the 20th Regiment: "Which battalion do you plan to use to fight the distribution pool?" "We are going to call the Second Battalion to fight." Captain Tang replied. Zhao Xingyuan, the battalion commander of the first battalion, was anxious when he heard this: "let us fight! We have finished the Siping fortified battle. We haven't won a battle for almost a year, and the soldiers are screaming. Don't let us be the commandos this time, I How does this battalion commander explain to the soldiers?" Seeing that the regiment commander didn't express his opinion, he turned to the division commander again: "You know about our first battalion. We have accumulated a lot of experience in fighting against tough situations by fighting Wenjiatai and Siping. Let us Make a distribution pool to ensure that it can be broken and defended, and stick to the enemy like a plaster, making him unable to shake off." The teacher smiled: "Your 'plaster' didn't stick the enemy, it stuck to me first. I have no objection, you decide." The head of the regiment and the political commissar exchanged opinions: "Then you go to the battalion together." The soldiers of the first battalion used the night to dig the traffic trench to the front only more than 40 meters away from the enemy's position. The trenches and traffic trenches around the distribution pool were deep and steep, making it inconvenient to climb, so they rushed to make dozens of wooden ladders.Zhao Xingyuan conducted approaching reconnaissance alone, drew a sketch of the enemy's fortification, and marked where there were barbed wire, where there were bunkers, where there were trenches, where there were machine gun bunkers, and where there were single-man foxholes. Li Boqiu, political commissar of the division, came to the first battalion and asked: "Zhao Xingyuan, how sure are you of winning the distribution tank? As a commander, it is very important to be full of confidence in victory, but you must also imagine some difficulties. Artillery fire can destroy What should I do completely? What should I do if the frontal attack is frustrated? You need to make more preparations!" Zhao Xingyuan gave a detailed report to the political commissar on the pre-war preparations in the battalion these days, and assured the political commissar, "Don't worry, political commissar. Without diamonds, I wouldn't take on this porcelain job." The command post of the third company, which was responsible for the main offensive task, had a propaganda and agitation allegro poem posted on the trench wall: Comrades, get ready, the cannon is about to go off; As soon as the gunfire stops, we will go up, and make contributions to the distribution pool. Battalion Commander Zhao asked: "Are you confident in the pool?" A squad leader threw a cigarette butt to the ground: "Battalion Commander, I have gnawed a few hard bones in the years I have been a soldier. Don't listen to the enemy's bluffs. Qiu beats a blacksmith, one hammer down is enough for them to drink a pot." The distribution pool is just a lump of iron, we have to smash it flat! At 8 o'clock on the 12th, as two signal bombs rose into the air, there was a deafening sound of cannonballs, and rows of shells rushed towards the distribution pool with whistling noise, setting off puffs of smoke and dust. The barbed wire fence and the Dabai Building were all engulfed in thick smoke. "Attack!" The soldiers lying in the trench roared angrily and rushed towards the enemy in the smoke of gunpowder. The third company and the second company serving as assists thrust into the enemy's position at the same time like two sharp swords.Although the artillery fire destroyed the surface fortifications of the distribution pool, the machine guns in the bunker were still blazing, and bullets rained down on the charging soldiers.
