"能!"赵秉钧极有把握地说："我已经把一本密电码给应夔丞了，并告诉他以后有电，直寄国务院可也。没有问题。" "这些人能放心吗?"袁世凯问。 "能!"赵秉钧依然极有把握地说："洪述祖也是个失意人物，是我在内务部拉了他一把，成了自己人。应夔丞是为了钱，咱们满足了他。还会有什么事。" "要抓紧，免得夜长梦多。" 赵秉钧答应着，退出了居仁堂。 回头路上，赵秉钧又多了一层心眼，觉得自己让应夔丞直接同国务院联系不妥，日后万一出了事。罪责会马上落到自己头上。到那时，袁世凯不一定会出来说话。这么想着，他便急忙派洪述祖去上海，告诉应："以后不必跟国务院直接联系，由洪述祖居中联系。" 那应夔丞已从发行的公债利息中把酬款扣了下来，管你跟谁联系，他都无所谓，探准时间，杀了宋教仁便完了。 一段紧锣密鼓的角逐，各方面的国会议员总算推选出来了。尽管袁世凯对这群国会议员并不满意，国会还是要开的，再用别的手段对付国会就是了。于是，决定于913年4月8日在北京召开第一次国会会议。 一直在南方各地演说的宋教仁，3月中旬刚刚回到上海，便接，到大总统袁世凯的急电，邀他赴京，"商决要政"。宋教仁感到袁世 凯兴许会有所省悟，愿意开诚布公推行共和；再则，自己也想利用国会，组成政党内阁。所以，便欣然答应，决定立即北上。 3月20日，上海。 早春的严寒，尚笼罩着黄浦江，习习的冷风，不时吹进高高下下的楼房。天空阴沉沉的，细雨时断时续。入夜，街巷中的喧嚣随着人流的稀落也渐渐消匿了，只有深巷中还不断几声叫卖。 作为上海门户的火车站，不知是因为春寒还是细雨、还是夜深，显得几分冷落，连灯光也那么暗淡。只有售票处隔壁新增设的"国会议员招待室"里，还不时传出欢声笑语。那是将要去北京参加第一届国会的国民党领袖人物宋教仁以及为他送行的黄兴、廖仲恺、于佑任、陈其美等人，他们畅谈着选举总统，制定宪法和政党内阁等国家大事。 这时，招待室外昏暗的灯影里，不时有人在探头探脑，指指点点。他们便是被大总统出了大价收买的刺客武士英和他的几名助手。 武士英手中有宋教仁的照片，他在暗中几经对照，已经确认了宋教仁。便又认真观察了地形，看明白了宋教仁进站上车的路线，再找准了自己的行动位置。 夜深人静，风停雨止，独有初春的寒冷在增加着浓度。10点40分，车站一个员工来请上车。 宋教仁拎起面前的小皮箱，同黄兴等人一起外出。当他们距检票口尚有几步远时，背后忽然传来一声闷枪，紧接着又是"叭叭叭"几响，宋教仁大叫一声"有人刺我!"便倒在了地上。 原来，武士英就在宋教仁身后几米处，第一枪击中了宋的腰部，宋教仁一边大声呼叫，一边踉跄前进；武士英虽然连连开枪，但宋教仁都在踉跄中闪了过去。最终，还是倒了下来。 枪声响过，车站大乱，值勤的巡捕吹起哨子，出动抓人。武士英不敢久停，仓惶逃人人丛之中。由于新雨路滑，刺客竞连跌两跤，但却匆匆爬起，一边开枪拒捕，一边慌张逃跑，终于消失在夜幕之中。追捕的巡捕只发现他是一个穿黑呢子军服，个子很矮的人。送行的黄兴等人一见宋教仁倒在地上，赶紧过来搀扶。宋教仁已是全身无力，呼吸紧促。他呻吟着说："我中弹了。"他们拦借了一辆汽车，把宋教仁送进了附近的沪宁铁路医院。 待诊的时候，除留下黄兴，于佑任照料之外，其余人奔赴市区筹款发电，报案揖凶。时已深夜，医生多已他去。宋教仁十分痛楚，他用手按住伤口，艰难的对于佑任说："我痛极了，或将不起。人总有一死，死亦何惜。趁我还清醒，有三件事相托：一是我在南京北京以及日本东京所存书籍，全部捐入南京图书馆中；二是我家清贫，尚有老母，请你们几位替我照料；三是你们几位仍当努力进行，勿以我遭不测致生退缩，放弃责任。我欲调和南北，费尽苦心，不意暴徒不谅，误会我意，置我死地......" 医生来了，经过诊视，即做手术。好不容易取出子弹，弹形尖小，似有毒质，且伤在右腰骨稍偏处，紧俟心脏，十分严重。 下半
