"This mage is Master Xuanzang who escaped from China and came to Tianzhu." "Ah, Great Master Xuanzang!" Everyone clapped their hands together and bowed down to Xuanzang... Another sacred place of Buddhism - Gushan Jiabulu Temple (Ilanna Bhavaduo, India, present-day Bihar, India), is located in a scenic spot with clear springs, fragrant flowers, green forests and strange rocks.Because there are many temples and Bodhisattvas in that area, the gods of the earth spirit temples have many induction phenomena, and various miracles have appeared.Since there is a statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva in the Guanyin Temple, so, go to the temple to pay homage to the Bodhisattva. There is an endless stream of people praying and fulfilling their vows, making this resort more and more famous.

Xuanzang rode an elephant and came to this temple accompanied by monks. As soon as he stepped into the courtyard, he saw burning smoke and a strange fragrance. Xuanzang turned his head and said to his companions: "Sure enough, it is Yiling Temple." When they came to the Central Abode, they saw the statue of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva carved from sandalwood. A wooden fence has been erected around the statue seven steps away. Those who come to pay their respects can only stand on the fence seven steps away from the Bodhisattva. outside.Xuanzang stepped forward and saw that the people who worshiped the Bodhisattva bought incense wreaths and threw them to the Bodhisattva's arms.

The accompanying person introduced to Xuanzang: "If the people who pray are very sincere, they will see the Bodhisattva appear. So in order to show their piety, many of them have not eaten for a week or even 14 days." "Oh, is it?" another companion asked in surprise. "Yes, the Bodhisattva's dharma is majestic and majestic. The Buddha came out of the sandalwood to comfort those who prayed to him and make the wishes of all living beings come true. Therefore, more and more people come to pray." After hearing this, Xuanzang hurriedly said that I also made a wish to the Bodhisattva, so he went to buy fragrant flowers, formed a garland like others, and knelt down to Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. After worshiping, he made three vows and said silently:

At the feet of the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, a Chinese disciple Xuanzang came to pray: "The first wish is that the Bodhisattva will bless me for a safe journey when I return to China after studying. If I wish, please put the wreath on the hands of the Bodhisattva. "The second wish is to cultivate blessings and wisdom, and wish to be reborn in Tushita Palace in the next life to serve Maitreya Bodhisattva. If the wish is fulfilled, the garland will hang on the arms of the noble. "The third wish, the holy teaching once said that there are still those who have not become a Buddha in the world of sentient beings. The disciples are afraid that they do not have Buddha nature. If I have Buddha nature and can become a Buddha through practice, then please let the wreath fall on the bodhisattva. on your neck."

As a result, all three wishes came true. When the third wreath fell firmly on the neck of Guanyin Bodhisattva, there was applause from all around. "Auspicious, auspicious!" The pilgrims cheered and gathered around Xuanzang. The abbot of the temple introduced to everyone: "This master is Master Xuanzang who came to Tianzhu from China alone." "Ah, Master Xuanzang!" Everyone clapped their hands together and bowed to Xuanzang... People gathered around Xuanzang, and one of the pilgrims said: "Master Xuanzang, you are amazing. I heard that you came here alone. You encountered many dangers on the road and survived the dangers. Today, you have fulfilled your three wishes. Your merit is really great!"

Another said: "I heard that the few robbers you encountered were all influenced by you, and you even shaved them. Could it be that robbers can also become Buddhas?" Xuanzang clasped his hands together and replied: "The Buddha once said that all sentient beings in the world have Buddha nature. It's just that some people's Buddha hearts are covered by greed and delusion. Therefore, as long as Buddhism helps them get rid of greed and remove the cover, it can make them This is why robbers can change from evil to good." The door nodded frequently. Xuanzang also said:

"Didn't Sakyamuni save a woman named Guizimu who only ate children? Later, after atonement, this woman rescued many children. It is said that she later became a child-giving empress worshiped by the people." "Amitabha! That's how it is!" A monk asked: "Dear Chinese Master, according to what you said, can all bad people show the Buddha's heart?" "No!" Xuanzang shook his head and said, "Some people who have committed too many evils and sins too deep, and whose evil and greed have covered the Buddha's heart for too long, are hard to save. For example, the Devadatta who harmed the Buddha four times is A heinous and unrepentant villain. He is the cousin of the Buddha, but he murdered the Buddha several times because of his fight to marry the princess, to inherit the throne, and to be the Buddha. Once he released a ferocious beast to harm the Buddha, but he himself was almost killed by a ferocious beast Eat it, or the Buddha saved him." Xuanzang paused, then said:

"It stands to reason that he should have found out his conscience and changed his ways. But instead of changing, he continued to do evil. As a result, he fell to his death on a cliff while murdering others. This is retribution. It can be seen that he has done too many unreasonable things. , you will definitely receive the punishment you deserve...” Everyone nodded in agreement. Xuanzang also said: "However, the vast majority of people can be saved. For example, the great thief Yanggo Moluo who once murdered Sakyamuni Buddha was also influenced by the Buddha. Wasn't the prince Ageshi who killed his father and usurped power also been influenced by the Buddha?" Has it been saved? It can be seen that the reason why all living beings have Buddha nature is correct.”

More and more people gathered around to listen to Xuanzang's preaching. The abbot of the monastery simply asked Xuanzang to stay and lecture on the scriptures for a few days. Xuanzang agreed, so he stayed in the central abode of the monastery. Xuanzang also went to the hometown of Buddha Sakyamuni, visited Lumbini (Kapirawei State) where the Buddha was born, and saw the mother of the Buddha, Queen Maya, who gave birth to the Buddha in the forest in the Lavabini Forest (in today's Nepal). Worry-free flower tree. It is said that when the Buddha's mother was about to give birth to him, she saw the beautiful worry-free flowers in the forest halfway, and got off the car to pick them, so the Buddha was born under the tree.

The birthplace of Buddha Sakyamuni, Lumbini Forest, Nirvana Land, Sarnath and Bodhi Temple are the four holy sites of Buddhism. Lumbini Forest, also known as Lavabini Forest, is located in Kapilavatthu, the hometown of Sakyamuni (in present-day Nepal). One day 2,500 years ago, in the beautiful and rich Kapilavatthu state of Tianzhu, Sakyamuni's mother, Queen Maya, was about to give birth. According to local regulations, pregnant women must go to their natal family to give birth. So King Jingfan sent a convoy to escort Queen Maya back home. When passing through the Lumbini forest, he suddenly heard birds singing and fairy music... The queen was curious, so she got out of the car and let the maid help her into the forest.Immediately, a gust of forest wind blew by, sending bursts of fragrance. The queen felt refreshed, so she walked in along with the scent of flowers, and saw a pool of blue lake with clear water. There was a worry-free tree on the bank of the lake. The flowers are overflowing with fragrance. The fragrance of the flowers attracted the birds to sing, and Queen Maya was so intoxicated by the beautiful scenery that she forgot the abdominal pain. She walked under the worry-free tree and leaned against the tree, admiring the blooming worry-free flowers, inhaling the fragrance deeply.A burst of moving music came, and she suddenly felt unbearable abdominal pain. After a while, the Buddha Sakyamuni salivated...

Xuanzang and all the people came to this holy place, and Xuanzang prayed to the worry-free tree with his palms together. This day happened to be April 8th, which is the "Buddha's birthday" in Buddhism. There were so many monks and laymen in the Lumbini forest. Everyone crowded together to worship under the holy tree protected by iron railings, breathing Fragrance under the holy tree. Xuanzang and his party went to the country of Kushina again, and they were going to visit the holy place of Tathagata Nirvana. Then he set off from the capital of the country and went westward for three or four miles, crossed the Athavadi River, and came to the Sala Forest where the Tathagata Nirvana was. of two big trees. Xuanzang stared at the two big trees for a long time, and said with emotion: "The Buddha and the tree are really destined. He was born under the tree, became a Buddha under the tree, and even passed away under the tree. Maybe this is God's will!" Next to the tree, later generations built the Dazhiyuan Abode, inside which there is a statue of Nirvana lying on the north head of the Tathagata. The monks in the monastery, after listening to the introduction of Xuanzang's origin by the guide and entourage, respected Xuanzang very much. Under the tree of Tathagata Nirvana, they told Xuanzang and others the real story of Tathagata Nirvana. An old monk preached: "... That year, the Buddha took Ananda to preach in the city of Kushinagara. It was too late to enter the city, so he planned to stay in the village of Pafa. Gulam, a blacksmith who worshiped the Buddha, warmly received him. Buddha two. "The blacksmith enthusiastically slaughtered a cow to entertain the Buddha for the arrival of the Buddha. At that time, except for the Chinese New Year, only the supreme people slaughtered cows at ordinary times, which shows the status of the Buddha in people's minds. Unexpectedly, the Buddha had diarrhea overnight after eating the blacksmith's fasting shield. more than…… "Before dawn the next day, all the local people came to ask the Buddha to speak for them, but the Buddha was too weak to stand up. "The Buddha's illness was still worsening. He was dizzy, his eyes were dark, and his breath was like silk. He had a premonition that the end was coming, so he rushed to the Gion Garden in Savatthi City. The eighty-year-old Buddha walked under these two trees and fell down. Then he passed away under these two trees. "Before he passed away, the Buddha accepted his last disciple, a 105-year-old disciple, and left behind sermons on all dharmas without self, impermanence, and Nirvana." Xuanzang's eyes became moist when he heard it... He stood under the tree for a long time, ignorant of the Buddha's last teaching, and was deeply moved by the Buddha's evangelistic spirit. Xuanzang went eastward along the Ganges River again by boat, and arrived at Zhanbo State (in present-day Bangladesh). Northern Risa). Xuanzang originally planned to visit the Lion Kingdom (now Sri Lanka), but it was canceled due to the civil strife in the country.Standing on the shore, looking at the endless Indian Ocean, Xuanzang felt very sorry. So not afraid of crossing mountains and ridges, not afraid of beasts and robbers coming in and out, he went to the South China Salo Kingdom in Central India, then went south to Dakuncha, then went north along the west coast of India to Susita Kingdom, and then went north and west to Bojas country (Persia). One day, Xuanzang and his guide stood on the shore of the Great West Coast, looking at the scenery of the sea. The guide introduced the country of Western Women on the island, saying: "They are all women. Every year, the king sends a group of men to have sex with them and give birth to them. Daughters will stay, and male babies will be thrown into the sea. Will the mage go?" Xuanzang shook his head, thinking it was too cruel, so let's not go! After that, he crossed the Indus River to the north along the West India, and arrived at Bovadha, a country with extremely developed Buddhism in West India. year. After leaving the country of Bovata, he went southeast and returned to the country of Magadha in Central India. So far, Xuanzang has traveled around five Indias, a full week around India, which lasted four years, almost all the holy places of pilgrimage, visited many monasteries, studied and consulted many monks, and focused on studying fifteen eminent monks. At this time, when he finished his studies, his face was full of vicissitudes, and he was over forty years old. However, Xuanzang was still not satisfied. He went to Jiabulu Monastery, where he stayed for two months to study the "Statement" and "Yinming" from eminent monks, and then went to Zhangzhulin Mountain, where he devoted himself to studying with Master Shengjun for two years. Sheng Jun is a man of erudition, talent and high morals. He once studied "Yoga Theory" from Master Jiexian, and has a high attainment in Buddhism, so he is highly respected by the Buddhist circle.Regardless of Samanas, Brahmins, kings, ministers or wealthy families, they all rushed to ask for advice, which shows their reputation. Sheng Jun is also a man who does not care about fame and wealth. Several kings wanted to make him a national teacher and reward him, but he declined them all.King Jieri was deeply puzzled, so he replied: "I heard that I should worry about people's affairs when I receive people's salary. But now I am busy helping all beings to get rid of the troubles of life and death, so I don't have time to care about political affairs." After saying this, he bowed his hands and retreated, and King Jieri had no choice but to give up. Sheng Jun devoted himself to the study of Buddhism and was not troubled by the desire for power, which was in line with Xuanzang's Zen, so he worshiped Sheng Che very much.In addition, Sheng Jun had a lot of research on "Yoga Theory", so Xuanzang stayed and devoted himself to learning from Sheng Jun. The layman Shengjun was old, but his energy remained undiminished, and he taught Xuanzang himself. One evening, just after the tropical rainstorm, the heat suddenly dissipated and the weather became cooler. The air is very fresh, and the yard exudes a strong fragrance of jasmine.Shengjun and Xuanzang strolled in the bamboo forest, followed by several disciples of Shengjun.Sheng Jun said: "Master Xuanzang, you really deserve your reputation for studying the scriptures so hard. I have seen many monks, but this is the first time I have met monks as extraordinary as you." Xuanzang looked at Shengjun's hale and hearty face and said, "Master, I'm honored. It's rare for my disciples to meet someone as knowledgeable as the master. Now it's my great fortune to be able to learn from you." Sheng Jun smiled and said: "What is my talent and learning, the talent and learning of the Tathagata Buddha are truly extensive!" He pointed to the large piece of green bamboo in the valley and said, "Does the mage know why this bamboo forest is called the bamboo forest?" Xuanzang said: "That means that the Tathagata's merits and virtues are immeasurable, even the bamboos pouring all over the world cannot be measured." Sheng Jun nodded: "That's right, so our knowledge cannot be compared with Tathagata. The reason why I came to this stick bamboo mountain to practice is to always take the immeasurable Tathagata as a model." Xuanzang sighed in his heart after hearing this: Sure enough, I met a bosom friend, and he and I thought of being together. So Xuanzang decided to stay and study with Master Shengjun, and he lived there for two years.During this period, Xuanzang learned many Buddhist scriptures from Shengjun, and Shengjun also answered the difficult questions raised by him.Xuanzang was very happy because he had worshiped the second high teacher again. One night, when the moon was thin and the stars were thin, the moonlight shone in through the window. Xuanzang tossed and turned and couldn't fall asleep. He began to miss home... But instead of dreaming of his hometown, he dreamed that the Nalanda Temple was in ruins. The courtyard is full of weeds, the ground is dirty and flowing, the monks are gone, only buffaloes are wandering in the dirty ground. Xuanzang was extremely astonished. He entered the west gate of the Young Riwang Courtyard. When he returned to his residence, he suddenly saw the fourth floor of his residence was shining with golden light. Xuanzang didn't know which Bodhisattva it was. He wanted to go upstairs to pay homage, but there were no stairs. He was in doubt, and only heard what the golden man said: "I am Manjusri Bodhisattva. Your secular karma has not been exhausted, and you have not yet achieved the true fruition, so you cannot come up." "Then... what advice does the Bodhisattva have?" Xuanzang clasped his hands together and asked. Manjusri Bodhisattva pointed out the door with his hand and said: "See for yourself!" Xuanzang looked back, my God!The villages and towns outside the temple were reduced to ashes under the raging fire. Xuanzang turned around and asked why: "Bodhisattva, why is this?" Manjusri Bodhisattva said with a serious face: "Ten years later, King Jieri will collapse, India will be in chaos, and evil people will harm each other. You should cherish every minute and second, and return to the East to spread the Dharma as soon as possible." After saying that, the Bodhisattva disappeared in a burst of joy. "Wait, Bodhisattva, Bodhisattva! . . . " After Xuanzang woke up, he was covered in sweat. He sat up. Although it was a dream, he was sweating profusely. He thanked the Bodhisattva for reminding him, so he decided not to travel any more and returned to Nalanda Temple quickly. The next day he told Master Shengjun about his dream and his decision.Shengjun sighed and said: "The three worlds in the human world are inherently erratic and unpredictable. The Bodhisattva's prophecy may come true. You have completed your studies with me, and you can go back to Nalanda Temple." "Okay, master. In the past two years, thank you for teaching me so earnestly. Xuanzang will definitely bring the Buddhist principles he has learned back to his motherland and promote Buddhism." Sheng Jun nodded and smiled: "Master, you are welcome, but before I leave, I would like to accompany you to visit the relics of the Buddha from the Bodhi Temple on the first day of the first lunar month. This is a rare opportunity! It is not too late to leave after reading it." "Okay, thank you for your care, Master." So Xuanzang, accompanied by Master Shengjun, rode an elephant to the Bodhi Temple to visit the Buddhist relics. On the first day of the first lunar month, the Bodhi Temple is very lively, because on this day, the temple will present the relics of the Buddha, and monks and laymen from all over the world will come to pay their respects and worship. Sakyamuni died on December 8, 486 BC. After his body was cremated, his relics (remains) were divided among eight countries to build pagodas for offering. The Bodhi Temple built the largest relic pagoda. The abbot only ordered the Buddhist relics to be brought out when the monks who came were holding incense sticks and flowers filled the temple. When the elders of the temple learned that Master Shengjun and Master Xuanzang had come to pay their respects, they had already led the main monks to stand respectfully at the gate of the temple. When they arrived at the courtyard gate, Shengjun and Xuanzang were helped down from the elephant-back seat. The elders of the Bodhi Temple hurriedly came up to him, joined hands and prostrated: "I am delighted to hear that Master Shengjun and Master Xuanzang are here, and the Han Temple is full of brilliance. The disciples are here to be courteous." "No courtesy! Namo Amitabha, the elder please get up quickly." The elder bowed to Xuanzang again, and Xuanzang quickly returned the salute with palms together. Shengjun, Xuanzang and others followed the elders into the monastery, and suddenly the fragrance wafted in. They saw that the pagoda was crowded with people holding incense and offering flowers. When the mages came, they joined hands and prayed together. After a burst of solemn drum music, the elder announced: "Please bring out the Buddha's relics." Shengjun and Xuanzang were treated preferentially in front. They saw that some of the Buddhist relics were large and some were small. The large ones were like round beads, crystal clear, red and white in color; the small ones were the size of peas and ruddy in color. At this time, all the believers held incense and bouquets of flowers, worshiped the Buddha's relics devoutly, and gave out praise from time to time. After all the monks and laymen paid their respects, the Buddhist relics were sent back to the pagoda for collection. At night, Shengjun and Xuanzang slept together in the temple, and after the first watch, the two were still discussing about relics. Master Shengjun said: "My disciples have also looked at the relics in other temples, but they are only as big as rice grains. How come the ones in Bodhi Temple are so big?" Xuanzang also felt the same way, saying, "My disciples also have doubts." The two were discussing the authenticity of the relic.Suddenly, there was a bright light inside and outside. The two were very surprised, so they went out to have a look, and at the same time they were stunned by the scene in front of them... I saw that the relic pagoda was filled with colorful flames, the whole world was as bright as day, the stars and the moon were gone, and there was a strange fragrance wafting from it, filling the temple with fragrance. All living beings were awakened, and everyone came to the pagoda and bowed their heads to worship, amazed and surprised! After about a meal, the white light gradually faded, and when it was about to disappear, it circled the Buddha bowl where the relics were placed a few times, and then gradually entered the pagoda. The sky and the earth became dark again, and the stars and the moon reappeared in the sky... After seeing this scene, everyone believed in the relic from now on. After visiting the Bodhi Temple, Xuanzang bid farewell to Master Shengjun and returned to Nalanda Temple. It was raining heavily and the road was rotten like mud.Xuanzang braved the downpour and returned to Nalanda Temple. As soon as Xuanzang returned to Nalanda Temple, he was challenged by Master Ziguang. This master Guang is a self-reliant master. He is a representative of Madhyamaka, and he has been opposed to Master Jiexian, the representative of Yoga School, for a long time. ", openly launched a challenge to "Yoga". When Xuanzang was about to reach the gate of the temple, he saw Venerable Juexian welcoming him at the gate, so he hurriedly dismounted from the elephant and saluted Juexian first. "Senior Brother, I haven't seen you for a long time, thank you for your hard work, Junior Brother is very polite here." Xuanzang clasped his hands together. "Junior Brother, you are welcome, you came back just in time, Master has something to wait for you!" "Oh, what's the matter?" Xuanzang asked hurriedly. "Master Ziguang is going to challenge us! He wrote "On the Middle Way" and "Hundred Treatises" to break the "On Yoga". Xuanzang visited his master at Jiexian Abode, and Jiexian said to Bao: "Get ready! I want to calm Shi Ziguang's arrogance." "Yes, Master." Jiexian said with concern: "Learn to perfection at the Bodhi Temple Master Shengjun! I heard that Master Shengjun treats you very well and even lectures you personally." "Thanks to Master's recommendation, Master Shengjun was very kind to me. He answered some difficult questions in "Yoga Theory". , "Unstoppable Nirvana", "Twelve Causes and Conditions", "Adornment Sutra" and so on." Jiexian laughed and said: "Very good, Sheng Jun is a very knowledgeable master, and you are an all-rounder in Buddhism. If you two compete together, you will surely have great fortune." "Master has been praised, and this disciple must live up to the expectations of everyone and the kindness of Master, and is determined to write a tribute to Master Ziguang." Xuanzang replied humbly. "Okay, then you rest for a while and start preparing earlier." "Okay." Xuanzang withdrew after saluting. After Xuanzang returned to his residence, he fell into deep thought. He thought that the reason why Zang did not want to follow the official career arranged by his father was because he hated the turbulent waves of officials. He never expected that the Buddhist world would not be peaceful. He also thought that Shi Ziguang had no major faults, but just dissatisfied with me, so I must convince him. There is also the Madhyamika School and the Yoga School, both of which belong to the same branch of Buddhism. Their purpose is to respect the teachings of the Buddha to save others and save oneself. Why should they oppose each other because of different views? Xuanzang thought again, why don't I do my part for the integration of the two sects of Nalanda Temple! Why is it necessary for the two factions to fight? Having made up his mind, Xuanzang carefully studied the two treatises of "Zhonglun" and "Hundred Treatises" written by his master Ziguang, and then wrote three thousand verses of "Huizongguan" to reconcile the views of the two schools. Everyone was full of praise, and Shi Ziguang felt very ashamed when he knew it. Xuanzang took the initiative to come to talk with Shi Ziguang many times, and refuted Shi Ziguang with his superb views several times, and often refuted him so badly that he no longer dared to debate with Xuanzang openly. Shi Ziguang saw that all the sentient beings flocked to Xuanzang's lecture hall, compared with his own disciples who seemed deserted, Shi Ziguang felt even more ashamed, so he secretly left Nalanda Temple and went to Bodhi Temple. Master Guang wanted to avenge his own shame, so he found a monk named Chandra Sinha to challenge Xuanzang, hoping to restore his reputation.Unexpectedly, after this person came to Nalanda Temple, he listened to Xuanzang's lecture and was convinced by his profound scriptures, so he stopped questioning him.Since then, Xuanzang's reputation has spread far and wide, and no one refuses to accept it. One day, the sun was shining brightly. On the avenue, the sun was covered by banners and the sound of chariots and horses shook. It turned out that the mighty King Jieri had returned from his eastward expedition and passed by the Utu Kingdom. This king of Jieri is the king of India in ancient India who unified the five Indias and shocked the four states. He believes in Buddhism, especially Mahayana Buddhism. However, the monks in this Wucha country are all subordinates of the Hinayana, and they have always been opposed to the Mahayana, so they attacked the Nalanda Temple in front of King Jieri, saying that they are heretics and not taught by the Buddha. It turns out that these Hinayana Buddhism in India often attack Mahayana Buddhism, and the opposition between the two schools is becoming more and more serious. Therefore, King Jie Ri planned to hold a big Dharma conference, let the two factions debate, and make a fair decision by himself. After discussing with his subordinates, King Jieri sent someone to Nalanda Temple to inform Master Jiexian. One day, as soon as Xuanzang finished his lecture, Master Juexian came to call him, saying that Master Jiexian had an invitation, and that King Jieri had sent an envoy to inform him of important matters.Xuanzang hurriedly followed to the main hall, where he saw Master Jiexian talking to the envoy. When Jiexian saw Xuanzang coming, he introduced to the envoy: "This is Master Xuanzang, an eminent monk from China." Xuanzang hurriedly saluted the envoy, and the envoy returned the gift and said: "I have heard of the Master's name for a long time, and it is a great honor to meet you today." Xuanzang also said: "I have long admired the honorable name of King Jie Ri, and the poor monk hopes to be honored as soon as possible." Master Jiexian heard this and said: "This time you can see King Jieri. Now Theravada Buddhism is attacking our Mahayana Buddhism, and the king wants us to send people to Wuduo Kingdom to fight against them." "Oh!" Xuanzang asked with great concern, "Master, Hinayana Buddhism and Mahayana Buddhism are both Buddhism, they are just different sects, they should go hand in hand, why are they so opposed?" Jiexian sighed and said: "The two factions have been in conflict for a long time. The Hinayana sect believes that there are 700 verses of "Broken Mahayana" written by Prajna Luta (the South Indian king's empowerment teacher, Brahman). Now, because King Jieri is there The Landa Monastery is dissatisfied with the establishment of the Yushi Abode, so it deliberately provoked a controversy, let him tell you the specific situation." Jiexian nodded to the envoy. The envoy then said: "That's how it is. King Jieri passed through Wudha on his eastward expedition, and those monks took out the seven hundred verses of "Breaking the Mahayana" and told the king that the Theravada doctrine they believe in is the orthodox religion, and Mahayana Buddhism is nothing more than Kong Hua heretics, asked the king not to support Mahayana Buddhism. He also said that Mahayana Buddhism could not break a word of them, and threatened to have a debate between the two religions, so the king sent me to ask Master Jiexian to send someone to prepare for the debate. " Xuanzang pondered for a while and said: "Please tell your majesty that although Xuanzang has little knowledge, he is willing to go to the debate in order to maintain the prestige of Mahayana Buddhism." Jiexian and the envoys all showed joy when they heard this.At that moment, Master Jiexian asked Juexian to invite all the monks to conduct a selection process. As a result, Xuanzang, Juexian, Haihui, and Zhiguang were selected. Xuanzang was the chief debater, and Jiexian asked the four to prepare actively and wait for orders . After everything was arranged properly, the envoy happily returned to King Jieri. Xuanzang, Juexian, Haihui, and Zhiguang are studying countermeasures in the abbot's room. Suddenly hearing noises at the gate of the temple, Juexian asked the little novice to take a look. The little monk came back and said: "Master Juexian, there is a brahman hanging outside the door, which attracts all the monks to talk about it." The young novice was illiterate, so Juexian and the others got up to see what was going on. When I got outside the gate, I saw a call to action posted on the door, and a Brahman of about forty years old was standing next to him, hugging each other. There are many monks and laymen surrounded by the call to action. When the monks saw Juexian and Xuanzang coming, they hurried out of the way. Xuanzang and the others went to read the call to action. It turned out that this foreigner wrote forty points of view attacking Buddhism, threatening: "Whoever can refute one point, I would like to apologize with my head!" Xuanzang read it, and although he could refute everything, he felt that what he wrote was not unreasonable. Its crux is mainly aimed at the contradiction between Mahayana and Hinayana Buddhism.Seeing him laughing at the "existence" of Hinayana teaching and the "emptiness" of Mahayana teaching, I thought that these two schools are both Buddhists, but they contradict themselves. It is like poking your shield with your spear. , The Hinayana teachings should be mastered.Xuanzang decided to ask this foreigner for advice, so he was ready to keep him, so he went forward and saluted: "Is this master a Brahman?" "Exactly." "You criticize our Mahayana Buddhism as illusory. This is not comprehensive. At least we, the Yoga School, believe that Nirvana is real. Although we advocate the emptiness of 'Jing', we firmly believe in the existence of 'Consciousness'. All dharmas are caused by conditions. , so we are not all empty, and you even doubt whether Brahman, the founder of Brahmanism, exists or not, so why do you have any reason to accuse us of Mahayana Buddhism?" The believer was very impressed when he heard this, and asked the monk next to him in surprise: "Who is this mage?" Juexian said, "This is the eminent monk Xuanzang from China." "Ah, Master Xuanzang!" The man hurriedly bowed to Xuanzang and said: "I have heard of the Master's name for a long time, and it is the greatest honor in my life to meet him today. I heard that the Master has been helping the righteous and exorcising evil all the way, turning evil into good fortune. He is really a divine monk." Xuanzang put his palms together and said, "Where, where, the poor monk is nothing more than asking the Buddha to bless him all the way." The Brahmin worshiped Xuanzang again and said: "I admire the mage so much, and today I am willing to bow down, and I am willing to let the mage behead me to fulfill his promise." Xuanzang quickly helped him up and said: "How can a monk give up his life casually, and besides, Buddhism does not kill, so how about it! How about you follow me for a while?" "I'm so grateful for the great kindness of the mage. If I change to someone else, I might be able to thank you with my head!" The Brahman knelt down to Xuanzang again, and said that he would be the master's servant. Xuanzang hurriedly said: "There is no high or low in Buddhism, so you can be my disciple for a few days!" The Brahmin couldn't help but knelt down and said: "Master, please be respected by your disciples." The monks and laymen around applauded and cheered when they saw it. Nalanda Temple's head-hanging event has finally come to a successful conclusion.Since then, Xuanzang's reputation has spread far and wide again.
