Huang Zhong heard the official order and advised him not to go out.Gongjie was not caught, so he burned his house and went to Huang Zhong's house, where he was punished severely, so he was sent to the county with sacrifices and weapons.传穟亲讯，得其状，言于镇道曰：“许尚虽禽，其党尚在；今事破，必速乱。凤治无城，不足守，而刘令新任，参将又懦，宜早增兵防堵。且台每有变，南北互应，令须两路并重，方为万全。”从之，密饬嘉、彰、淡各守吏戒严。未几而杨良斌起矣。 良斌亦凤邑人，以尚被获，众将散，告之曰：“今散则力弱，合则势强。凤治虽有兵，攻之易破，吾愿为先驱。”皆曰可。乃入凤梨山，造刀仗旗帜，使屯番潘老通向其舅潘巴能借炮，卜日誓众，分为二，良斌自为元帅，以林溪为军师，王曾为都督，领红旗队；李川、郑荣春为正副先锋，领乌旗队，余各为股首，分募徒卒，约以二十四夜袭埤头。埤头，凤山新治也。旧治在兴隆里，林爽文之役被毁，乃移此。郡吏虑其易失，以同知杜绍祁、县丞丁嘉植、都司翁朝龙率兵二百守之。良斌既约期举兵，又遣徐红柑自台邑，沈古老自嘉义，各举应，别命吴赐入郡，侦举动。二十一日，林溪至埤头，市五色绸制旗。溪故县役，城吏所谋，莫不知。归家，使人肩绸入山，己将饭而后行。母诘之，具以告，母惧诛自首，遂获溪下狱。良斌闻，不待众集，二十二夜，率数百人，分西北两路而往。途次破苦楝门汛，杀汛兵，斩竹围入。城中戒备，绍祁、功杰偕守县署，朝龙、嘉植守义仓。良斌攻之，朝龙迎击，而别队已斩县署木栅，为乡勇击退。翌日，朝龙移守火药局，文武随至。住民恐，各走避，无赖从而掠夺，一城鼎沸。塘兵被杀，文报不通。二十三日夜半，郡中始闻警，文武会议，檄城守左营及安平水师驻守，署总兵赵裕福率中营游击杨杰督师往。传穟从，斩许尚而行。郡中亦讹言乱事，人心震骇。绅士韩高扬、黄化鲤入见传穟，请方略。传穟曰：“凤治距郡城百里，朝发夕至，今贼氛恶，虽退必进。郡城为全台根本，君等其协力守之。”乃修筑城垣，以两日夜而竣。各街皆设栅自卫，别以精兵三百，环城巡视。又檄安平副将，以水师六百驻西城外之老古石街。或请严扃城门，传穟不可，曰：“南路难民避乱至者，日数百人，若城门一闭，则北路以为郡城被困，将乘势而起。”二十四日，镇兵南下。明日，传穟以兵勇四百继之，次阿公店，为凤治通府要途。留所部二百驻防，使训导谢代埙率之。二十六日，至埤头，撤功杰，以绍祁任知县，裕福亦以朝龙为南路参将。传穟督民夫，补竹围，拓深沟，严守备，通饬各庄缉捕。而县役多与事，绍祁悉赦之，故无患。初，良斌退驻凤梨山，树旗纠众，势复振。裕福至凤，以众多地险，未敢遽伐。既而兵勇续至，各庄亦受约束。嘉义会党越山南下，为官军所扼，不得至。吴赐至郡，被杀。新授台湾镇总兵蔡万龄至，人心稍定。良斌知事败，不可为，遂散其党，各归去。官军至，破之，王曾、李川、蔡双弼等皆被捕，斩于军前。良斌自驾小舟入海，至彰化，为知县李振青所获，解郡戮之，南路平。奏入，下旨嘉赉，自镇道以下皆从优议叙。明年乃建凤山县城于旧治。
