In the Liao Dynasty, men often wore mink jackets, sheepskin or fox fur coats in winter, "Jiaha" around the shoulders, and black leather boots on their feet to keep warm.Usually, they wear Futou on their heads, and round-neck gowns or crotch-open gowns.Women wear mink hats, jackets and jackets in winter. In summer, they wear skirts and shirts.Among them, the tunic shirts are black, purple, cyan and other colors, with a straight collar on the left lapel and front and back landing on the ground. The skirts are mostly black and purple, with flowers embroidered on them. This shows that after Khitan changed to Liao Dynasty, the clothing system was diversified, and the national costumes were intertwined with Han costumes.Evidence of this feature can be found in the murals of the Liao tomb in Kulun Banner, Jilin, and the murals of the Liao tomb in Xuanhua, Hebei Province.

According to the custom of the Khitan nationality, the men of the Liao Dynasty mostly wore their hair shaved. Its style can be seen from the handed down "Zhuo Xie Tu", "Hu Jia Eighteen Pai Tu" and the murals unearthed from the Liao tomb.Kunfa means that the top hair is shaved, and a small amount of hair is left on the temples or forehead as decoration. Some have a row of short hair in front of their foreheads, some have loose sideburns around their ears, and some have left and right locks cut into special shapes and hang down to their shoulders. In the past, it was only known that men in the Liao Dynasty had their hair done. But judging from the cultural relics discovered recently, some women also wear their hair.

Women in the Liao Dynasty often painted their faces with gold, which was called "Buddha makeup".Zhu Yu (yuyu) of the Song Dynasty recorded in "Pingzhou Ketan": "When the first public envoy was envoys to the north, he saw the chariots and horses of Yelu's family of the envoys from the north coming [yaya, welcome]. There was a woman in the felt car, whose face was painted dark yellow. Red eyebrows and black kisses are called Buddha makeup." It is said that they painted their faces with Trichosanthes chinensis (light yellow flowers) in the winter moon, and washed it off in the spring of the following year.
