Women in the Liao Dynasty often painted their faces with gold, which was called "Buddha makeup".Zhu Yu (yuyu) of the Song Dynasty recorded in "Pingzhou Ketan": "When the first public envoy was envoys to the north, he saw the chariots and horses of Yelu's family of the envoys from the north coming [yaya, welcome]. There was a woman in the felt car, whose face was painted dark yellow. Red eyebrows and black kisses are called Buddha makeup."
