Chapter 9 Basic Beliefs of a Buddhist Practitioner-9

Basic Beliefs of a Buddhist 南怀瑾 5334Words 2018-03-20
These four sentences and the previous eight sentences are still coherent all the way, echoing back and forth, and the meaning is very clear. It is not a problem for you in principle, it only depends on whether the performance of the event is achieved or not.Why can't I stop the smoky troubles in my heart? Greed, hatred, ignorance, arrogance, doubt, regret and other karmic habits, why do they come and go in one's own body, endlessly? It's very simple - because your merits and good deeds are not enough! If you become a monk and practice, if you are only passive and dare not do evil, and fail to actively pursue all kinds of goodness, your achievements will be quite limited. You must put aside your own selfishness, enter all schools, and accumulate "the power of good karma" in order to "purify everything" , to make one's three karma pure and clear, to make all phenomena in the Dharma Realm ethereal and clear, and finally to achieve the supreme Bodhi.

Like before in the mainland countryside, some houses were infested by evil spirits or vixen. As long as an honest gentleman arrives, or Mr. So-and-so arrives, it is rare for these troublesome ghosts not to use thirty-six tricks as the best policy. Why? A bright, upright, pure and solemn atmosphere, like the radiant sun shining on, how can the cold darkness disappear without a trace. Then, since the power of good karma can purify everything, it naturally also passes through the following powers: "Destroy the power of afflictions in one lifetime, subdue all the powers of demons, and perfect the power of Samantabhadra."Practicing Samantabhadra and fulfilling vows, these heroic and brave powers must be brought into play. The so-called "learning Buddhism is a manly job, not something that emperors and generals can do." Even if emperors and generals can create great achievements for a generation, it is not as good as cultivating Taoism by themselves. Selfishness, brains and brains to find a solution for the salvation of all living beings.Facing the sufferings of the world, true practitioners develop a heart of great compassion and "the boundless vow to save all living beings"

The power of Mahayana Bodhi, that is, this power, can "go straight to the Tathagata Land", this overwhelming Bodhisattva heart, do you and I have a piece? You must earnestly make a vow, and devote yourself sincerely. When reciting mantras, thinking or chanting, the meaning of these sentences, and your physical and mental consciousness must all be melted in. Sentences, every word, carefully and carefully, follow the sound clearly and penetrate into yourself. Heart. For example, when you come to the word "Ding" in "Dinghui, Convenient, Powerful and Divine Power", your consciousness will naturally go along with it, or when you sing the word "Hui", your heart will clearly understand this "wisdom" state. "Unity" chanting method, the breath can be turned freely, and one heart sings along with this sincere and respectful heart. Listening, I forget myself completely, and the troubles and karma are thrown out of the sky. The body is gone, the delusions are gone, just in the sound and light , "The karma is originally empty", no one hinders you at all!You are your own master, you have completely merged with the void of the universe, "I am the void, and the void is me". !

Only in this way can there be "power" and "power" in the practice of the law. Then the "supernatural power", "Mahayana power", "merit power", "great compassion", "victorious blessing power", "wisdom power", "prestige power" just explained Divine power, Bodhi power, good karma power, affliction power, magic power, and action power, etc., have a long history and endless life. For example, when we sing the verse "all the evil karma we have created in the past", we immediately feel that all the right and wrong, kindness and resentment in this life and even in the past are not important, and there is nothing to complain about. Returning the heavens and the earth, there is only one thought of a peaceful and moving heart, this shakes off the dust of many lifetimes inside and outside the body and mind, the whole body is clear, like pure glass, this is right, this is not in vain for the painstaking efforts of you and me to gather here up.

Like the living arhat I saw on Lushan Mountain in mainland China before, I don’t know anyone with big characters. In winter, the snow and ice are one or two feet thick. The red one stood in the snow, and within a short while, the ice and snow there immediately melted, and a pothole was dented. This living arhat usually lives in a temple, and when he goes to the temple, he goes to the temple with everyone. If he can't recite the verses in class, he joins his hands and sings "Namo Amitabha Buddha", which sounds like the scriptures sung by everyone. , people will not feel that he has harmed anyone at all, and he does not feel that others have hindered him from reciting Buddha's name. How do you say this is done? ——This is because as soon as he opened his mouth to chant, his whole body and mind entered the state of "selflessness" and "no self", becoming one with the void and one with all living beings.Everyone remember this method of chanting that I have emphasized many times, with a devout heart, a clear heart, a heart of great compassion, a heart of unity and harmony, a heart that settles all right and wrong, and a heart that is completely selfless, If you go there with no attachments and no attachments, you will go there naturally, without any clothes, so why worry about not being able to travel the "Road to Nirvana" with the ancient sages? Please sing a few more lines!

(Students chant in the same way) This passage uses "sea" to symbolize the depth and vastness of Samantabhadra's vows, which is hard to limit. When mentioning the sea, everyone should be able to immediately have that kind of vast and unfathomable majestic image. The sea can accommodate all things, and the sea does not house dead bodies. It keeps the living things, and no matter what is dead, it will float up for you. Therefore, although the sea gathers all kinds of rivers and contains everything, it is quite clean.People who study Buddhism must never lack this kind of open mindedness like the sea. The scriptures say: "The cause is not true, and the result is tortuous." If you are a Buddhist, if you are new to Buddhism, if you are not sincere enough at all, it is not for the benefit of all sentient beings. But to seek Bodhi, then you must achieve the "supernatural power" mentioned above. "Mahayana power", "good karma power", "great compassion", "victorious blessing power", "wisdom power", "magnificent power" and other inconceivable merits, do you think it is possible?

Therefore, to follow Buddhism, you must make great vows, be brave and diligent, like the ocean suddenly majestic, magnificent, "universal energy and strict purification of the sea of all temples", with incomparable courage to cleanse your body and mind, inside and out. Purity, the three karmas of body, speech, and mind are pure and untainted, and the sky is ten thousand miles away; even from the purity of one's own body and mind, it spreads throughout the three thousand great thousand worlds and the world of countless dust particles. Some people may say: The topic is so big, I can't do it now. That’s okay, then you start with the trivial things in your daily life, such as the bed you sleep on, and make it clean.Well organized, should be no problem! Many bad habits that have been neglected in life can be corrected quickly with a little effort. From then on, start to practice, slowly expand and fill, from shallow to deep, from thick to thin, and never give up. In this way, no matter how heavy the karma Knowledge and habits are not immutable.

This belongs to the aspect of gradual cultivation in matters, and in terms of principles, it is necessary to cooperate with wisdom at the moment. No matter where it is, it doesn’t matter whether it’s clean or dirty; no matter what the situation is, whether it’s idle or chaotic, everything is originally clean and prosperous. If you are not happy, how can you be sad when you are in adversity? What's more, because you are in harmony with the light and the dust, you are happy but not happy, sad but not sad, follow the world's conditions, and don't move to the real world. This is the manifestation of Mahayana's concentration, wisdom and expedient power.

For example, in the past few days, I happily asked me to do this and that at home, to take pictures, to change clothes, and then to stand, to sit, the spotlight kept flashing, and I couldn’t keep my eyes open. When I laugh, I just laugh, if you want me to cross my legs, I can do it, let your preferences dictate, what do you think it is?This is my best pure ashram, just like playing with you happily, in fact, it can be said to be in meditation, it is so simple and natural, so free, anyone can do it, and start Where is the key?The previous explanations along the way have already been exhausted, so you may wish to study it again. If it is said that you must find a good environment to practice Taoism, then this is the merit of the environment, and what you do is not "Tao"!

The purpose of Buddhism is liberation, not only to liberate oneself, but also to liberate all sentient beings//0.How to get rid of it?There is no need to expend so much effort, you will be freed right away! "If you let go now, let it go, if you want to wait, there is no time." When you say let go, let go at the same time.Let go of one, let go of everything, and who will bind you and untie you? This is to achieve "liberation from the sea of all sentient beings". Furthermore, "goodness can distinguish the sea of all dharmas, and can go deep into the sea of wisdom". Don't move in the first righteousness", don't tremble all over with fright and turn pale when you hear that it is the method of evil spirits and heretics, and don't practice it for a long time without knowing that you are playing heresy ways.Cultivation urgently requires the wisdom of judging and choosing the Dharma door to practice, with a clear mind, not only can magic not confuse you, but Dharma will not become your attachment. If you think heretics are wrong, you can’t learn and don’t need to know, then you are petty and have no wisdom, and you can’t even penetrate into the heretics, so what kind of Buddha do you want to learn from?My teacher, Shakyamuni Buddha, is well aware of all the theories and realities of heretics. It is precisely because he sees all kinds of specious views of life and the universe, and is not confused by various dharmas, so he is worthy of being called a Buddha. - the enlightened one. This is the supreme achievement of wisdom, that is, "being able to penetrate deeply into the sea of wisdom".

However, if wisdom is to be cultivated, it must be matched with the consummation of merit and virtue. Not only must you completely refrain from doing all kinds of evil, but you should also perform all kinds of goodness meticulously, develop a big heart, and make great vows. Benefiting the cause of life, the heart is pure and has nothing to do.So the next two sentences mention "Universal Neng purifies the ocean of all actions and fulfills the ocean of all vows", which again emphasizes the theme of Samantabhadra's fulfillment of vows.Let’s see, the Buddha’s heart is so profound that it cannot be further enhanced. He tries to find out the true meaning of learning Buddhism for us, lest we neglect this magnanimous way to achieve ultimate Bodhi. Many of you always like to claim that you are following the Mahayana Dharma Luzi, is that really the case?Next, "get close to the sea of Buddhas and practice the sea of endless sutras", the previous item "always follow Buddhism" has been explained, have you done it? (Students answer: no) of course not.To be brave and diligent requires a long-term mind. Even if you have gone through many vicissitudes and experienced countless indescribable calamities, this heart will not change, this wish will not change, whether you go to hell or go to heaven, whether you are poor or poor, or rich or honor, they will not change. That is, it remains the same, and this can be called the "Vajra Bodhi species", a Mahayana practitioner who is as genuine as he is fake. Please repeat the following verses: (Students chant in the same way) The first step in learning Buddhism is to start with Samantabhadra's vows. The reason why all the Buddhas of the three generations can achieve Buddhahood is because of the fulfillment of Samantabhadra's vows.Buddhist practitioners should seek the way of Buddhism for the benefit of all sentient beings, and not just seek relief from their own troubles. Otherwise, it is very grandiose to claim to learn Buddhism and practice Taoism on the surface, but in fact it is just a pitiful self-interested psychology. That's all. However, if you can really be selfish and self-interested, that’s fine, because people who are selfish and self-interested have only one self, and I am all living beings, and all living beings are me. All living beings practice together, regardless of each other. This is the realm of Samantabhadra's practice of making vows. One person pays homage to the Buddha, and at the same time, all sentient beings are respecting and praising the Buddhas of the ten directions. But most people only care about their own small interests, or only for the relatives and friends who are close to me. Anyone who has an interest in them is very sincere and caring. Caring, not paying much attention, or even coping with it casually. If learning Buddhism cannot avoid such secular and snobbish mentality, even if you practice meditation and worship Buddha very diligently, as long as you can’t check out this subtle psychological obstacle and earnestly correct your mistakes, then I’m sorry, this Bodhi path and fruit will definitely not be consummated mature. For example, you are so fond of learning Buddhism here, are you really learning for the benefit of others?Carefully reflect on your first thought and reaction when encountering a situation, and see if it is the biased psychology of protecting yourself such as greed, anger, ignorance, hesitation, etc. that is at work?Taking a ten thousand step back, even if one cultivates for self-interest, that is not bad!To truly achieve self-interest is also worthy of admiration. After so many years of practice, can you take care of yourself steadily and take care of yourself? It’s just that there is a problem in life, and there is a problem here, and I am not sure how to deal with the aftermath. I am ignorant, I have to be protected by others, and I can’t greet myself well. Isn't that pathetic? I repeat here again, if you want to learn Buddhism and want to prove the "Supreme Bodhi", it depends on your actions and vows.In addition to the Huayan Sutra and the vows of Samantabhadra, this point can also be learned by referring to the pure conduct of the same scriptures. The initiation of the Great Vow must be in line with the principle of "standing on the top of a high mountain and walking deep in the bottom of the sea". It is right to practice various causes of benefiting the world and life with a pure and unattached heart and an impartial heart.Otherwise, if you just recite the Buddha, recite mantras, sit in meditation and practice samadhi, in order to hope for great enlightenment, there is no door, only self-error.Therefore, to learn Buddhism, you must broaden all living beings, your own family members, and all living beings. First of all, you must not worry about them, and then you can please them. Besides, you must not escape from reality, covet comfort, and deceive yourself in the name of learning Buddhism and Taoism. Remember it carefully. The teaching of "enlighten Bodhi through Samantabhadra's practice" is to keep the whole body and mind alive and vigorous, vigorously and diligently.Enduringly embark on this only magnanimous road to Buddhahood.Read the next paragraph! (Students chant in the same way) "All Tathagatas have an eldest son, and his name is Samantabhadra." In Buddhist teachings, Samantabhadra and Manjusri are Bodhisattvas who are equally wonderful and enlightened.Waiting is equality, that is, waiting for enlightenment, which means that you have reached the state of equality with the Buddha, but you have not sat in the position of the leader, and the meaning of Miaojue is the same.Waiting for the wonderful second enlightenment is a Bodhisattva who has surpassed the tenth place, that is, a Buddha. For example, the eldest son of the emperor of a country in this world, who will take over the throne in the future, is called the crown prince, and Miao Erjue also has such a taste, so he is also called the king of the Dharma (Buddha). The son, called Prince Fa.Samantabhadra Bodhisattva has already cultivated to the second level of enlightenment for a long time, so he is respectfully called Samantabhadra. As I said before, Samantabhadra is universal, he is everywhere, and everything is born.Samantabhadra is with you, even you are Samantabhadra yourself. The Huayan Sutra tells us that if we sincerely practice Samantabhadra and make vows, as long as we recite the holy name of Samantabhadra devoutly, Samantabhadra Bodhisattva will surely appear. Now everyone is practicing Zhunti Dharma hard. As long as you have reached a certain level, you ask Samantabhadra Bodhisattva to come to the altar for blessings, and he will come riding on his majestic six-tusk white elephant. "I now dedicate myself to all good roots, and I hope that all wisdom and deeds will be the same as that." The concept of devotion is an important topic in Buddhism, and I have often mentioned this aspect of the truth before. Some of you think that dedicating means turning around. Although a practitioner dedicates all the merits and good deeds to a certain Lord or all sentient beings, in fact, these merits and good deeds will eventually return to the practitioner himself, and vice versa. This statement is generally possible, but it is still only a theoretical explanation. Some people say that turning back is like the popular Frisbee. After throwing it in a certain way, it will return to the original place after flying in the air. This is not bad, it is more vivid and realistic, but it is still a theory of comparison.A classmate once recited the Heart Sutra with sincerity and concentration, and when he finally thought about dedicating it to a fellow Taoist who had an accident, he saw a ray of light shoot out from his body far away, and finally circled down on himself. Feel very strange. Think about it, everyone, isn't this example a little self-evident for the principle of dedication? The meaning of Huixiang is very profound. If you want to explain it in detail, the answer does not stop at the above-mentioned one end. It also involves many metaphysical and physical issues related to Buddhism. In simple terms, it is the entire universe and the cycle of life.Reincarnation is said to be three times, but the three times are actually at the same time, so you think together, say and do, no matter whether it is good or evil, it will be the same retribution immediately. If you slap the table vigorously, the table will respond exactly to the force of your slap. This is the simultaneous cause and effect, the cause is the effect, and the effect is the cause. Here I hope that you will be particularly vigilant. When you and I show greed, ignorance, and doubt in our daily life, when the first thought or action comes out, the first person to benefit or suffer is yourself. For example, if you lose your temper with others, and the others have not yet suffered a loss, your own mental and physical effects, such as your own consciousness shaking, blood pressure rising, heart beating faster, and breath chaotic and surging, have already greatly hurt yourself, so why bother? ! Therefore, the meaning of dedication is the result of one thought.Yi Youyun: "There is no flat and no slope, and there is no return." After walking on a flat road for a while, it must be uphill or downhill again. After the uphill or downhill, there will be a flat road again. This repeated phenomenon is a natural principle, and you will come back as you go out. If you send out kind thoughts, you will feel good results, and if you do evil things, you will get evil rewards.Giving back is great charity, thorough charity, Buddhist practitioners practice in one day, or in one month, one year, for one lifetime, life after life, all the good deeds and virtues of practice, all unreservedly dedicated to all sentient beings, without asking for anything in return, even everything The sufferings of all sentient beings are all transferred to me, and there is no boundless karma to bear on my shoulders. If you can learn Buddhism with such a magnificent dedication force, it will be amazing. You will achieve success right away, and you will be Samantabhadra right now. What about compassion and wisdom! Therefore, it is said: "I return to the roots of goodness today, and I hope that all wisdom and deeds will be the same as that."
