Bingxu The study of a gentleman is only for oneself.Reputations, honors and disgraces come, not only do not move their hearts, but also consider them as a place to learn from each other.Therefore, a gentleman can't get content without entering, and it's because he doesn't enter that he can't learn.If the husband is happy when he hears the reputation, and sad when he hears the ruin, he will be panicked outside, but the sun is not enough, how can he be a gentleman!In the past years, I drove in Liudu, and I made friends with someone in Wumiao.At that time, misfortune was unpredictable, and the bureaucrats were in danger and fear, saying that if the group suspected this, they should try to solve it themselves.A certain said: "A gentleman does not seek the world's belief in himself, but self-confidence. We seek to have no time for self-confidence, but have time for others to believe in oneself?" If this is the case, is it still not self-confident?Although, the heart of a deacon, how can there be anyone who is not confident!As for the prevention, it is unexpected. If the school is in the childbirth, it can be guaranteed that there will be nothing.It is appropriate for deacons to consult servants with earnestness, and to strengthen the gentleman's strictness in self-government.In the past, some Chu people lived in a friend's house, and their servants stole a friend's shoes to return home, and the Chu people didn't know it.The people of Chu do not know that it is appropriate to make their servants walk in the market, and the servants privately steal their shoes.The other day, a friend came over and saw his shoes on the feet of Chu people. "Xiangshan's theory and Hui'an have great similarities and differences. Mr. Xiangshan once said that Xiangshan's knowledge is straightforward and clear." Looking at Xiangshan's theory today, it is said that learning has explanations, practices, and knowledge. The matter of Ming is no different from the theory of Hui'an, but it is different from the theory of the unity of knowledge and action of the master. Why?" Said: In the study of a gentleman, do you care about similarities and differences?That's all.Those who have similarities with my studies in Xiangshan are not agreeing with each other; those who are different cannot conceal their differences.If there are differences in my theory in Hui'an, it is not to seek differences; if it is the same, it will not harm it.Even if Boyi and Liu Xiahui were in the same hall as Confucius and Mencius, their observations and judgments would not all agree with each other in view of the incompleteness of what they saw, but it is necessary not to harm their fellow sages.Scholars of the later generations are all partisan and selfish, and they regard the cause of sages as a trifling matter. He asked again: "The theory of the unity of knowledge and action is the most important part of your study. Since it is different from Xiangshan's theory today, I dare to ask why it is the same." There is no need to worry about poverty, no joy to mourn, no choice between love and hate.Covering my ears but not my conscience, I can't listen to it, so what is there to hear?If the eye is not the conscience, it cannot be seen, so how can it be understood?If the heart is not conscience, then thinking and awareness cannot be used, so how can there be wise knowledge?However, why is it rich and gentle?And what is there to be strong and resolute?How can there be a close inspection of the text in Qi Zhuangzhong?And why did it come out of Pubo Yuanquan from time to time?Therefore, all admiration for riches and honor, worry about poverty and lowliness, joy and sorrow, and choice between love and hate are enough to blind my body of wisdom and wisdom, and choke my deep spring from time to time.If this is the case, it is like dust and sand being obscured in eyesight, and a wooden wedge being plugged in ears.His illness, pain and depression will go away quickly, but how can he bear it for a long time?Therefore, all people with the Dao admire riches and honor, worry about poverty and lowliness, and choose love and hate when they are happy or mourned, just like washing the dust from their eyes and pulling out the wedges from their ears.The appearance of riches and honor, poverty, loss, love and hatred, is like a fluttering change in Taixu, and Taixu's body is always clear and unobstructed.What Yuan Shan has built today is almost as bad as it is!Is it not waiting for things to win each other and go to each other and take this?Can those who are excited for a moment be strong?But what about the sound and smile?Yuan Shan loves himself!Yuan Shan loves himself! Ding Hai 此学不明于世,久矣。而旧闻旧习障蔽缠绕,一旦骤闻吾说,未有不非诋疑议者。然此心之良知,昭然不昧,万古一日。但肯平心易气,而以吾说反之于心,亦未有不洞然明白者。然不能即此奋志进步,勇脱窠臼,而犹依违观望于其间,则旧闻旧习又从而牵滞蔽塞之矣。此近时同志中往往皆有是病,不识以乘别后,意思却如何耳。昔有十家之村,皆荒其百亩,而日惟转籴于市,取其嬴余以赡朝夕者。邻村之农劝之曰:“尔朝夕转籴,劳费无期,曷若三年耕则余一年之食,数年耕可积而富矣。”其二人听之,舍籴而田。八家之人竞相非沮遏,室人老幼亦交遍归谪曰:“我朝不籴,则无以为饔;暮不籴,则无以为餐。朝夕不保,安能待秋而食乎?”其一人力田不顾,卒成富家;其一人不得已,复弃田而籴,竟贫馁终身焉。今天下之人,方皆转籴于市,忽有舍籴而田者,宁能免于非谪乎!要在深信弗疑,力田而不顾,乃克有成耳。两承书来,皆有迈往直进相信不疑之志,殊为浣慰!人还,附知少致切劘之诚,当不以为迂也。 Ding Hai 德洪诸友时时谈及盛德深情,追忆留都之会,恍若梦寐中矣。盛使远辱,兼以书仪,感怍何既!此道之在人心,皎如白日,虽阴晴晦明千态万状,而白日之光未尝增减变动。足下以迈特之资而能笃志问学,勤勤若是,其于此道真如扫云雾而睹者白日耳。奚假于区区之为问乎?病废既久,偶承两广之命,方具辞疏。使还,正当纷沓,草草不尽鄙怀。 Ding Hai 江西之会极草草,尚意得同舟旬日,从容一谈,不谓既入省城,人事纷沓,及登舟时,惟浚已行矣。沿途甚怏怏。抵梧后,即赴南宁,日不暇给,亦欲遣人相期来此,早晚略暇时可闲话。而此中风土绝异,炎瘴尤不可当,家人辈到此,无不病者。区区咳患亦因热大作,痰痢肿毒交攻。度惟浚断亦不可以居此,又复已之。 近得聂文蔚书,知已入漳。患难困苦之余,所以动心忍性,增益其所不能者,宜必日有所进。养之以福,正在此时,不得空放过也。圣贤论学,无不可用之功,只是致良知三字,尤简易明白,有实下手处,更无走失。近时同志亦已无不知有致良知之说,然能于此实用功者绝少,皆缘见得良知未真,又将致字看太易了,是以多未有得力处。虽比往时支离之说稍有头绪,然亦只是五十步百步之间耳。就中亦有肯精心体究者,不觉又转入旧时窠臼中,反为文义所牵滞,工夫不得洒脱精一,此君子之道所以鲜也。此事必须得师友时时相讲习切劘,自然意思日新。自出山来,不觉便是一年。山中同志结庐相待者,尚数十人,时有书来,仅令人感动。而地方重务,势难轻脱,病躯又日狼狈若此,不知天意竟如何也!文蔚书中所论,迥然大进,真有一日千里之势,可喜可喜!颇有所询,病中草草答大略。见时可取视之,亦有所发也。 Ding Hai 诸友始为惜阴之会,当时惟恐只成虚语。迩来乃闻远近豪杰闻风而至者以百数,此可以见良知之同然,而斯道大明之几,于此亦可以卜之矣。喜慰可胜言耶! 得虞卿及诸同志寄来书,所见比旧又加亲切,足验工夫之进,可喜可喜!只如此用功去,当不能有他歧之惑矣。明道有云:“宁学圣人而不至,不以一善而成名。”此为有志圣人而未能真得圣人之学者,则可如此说。若今日所讲良知之说,乃真是圣学之的传,但从此学圣人,却无有不至者。惟恐吾侪尚有一善成名之意,未肯专心致志于此耳。在会诸同志,虽未及一一面见,固已神交于千里之外。相见时幸出此共勉之。 王子茂寄问数条,亦皆明切。中间所疑,在子茂亦是更须诚切用功。到融化时,并其所疑亦皆释然沛然,不复有相阻碍,然后为真得也。凡工夫只是要简易真切。愈真切,愈简易;愈简易,愈真切。病咳中不能多及,亦不能一一备列姓字,幸以意亮之而已!
