How can they falsely accuse Xiangshan of being thick and treat Hui'an as thin! Kiwi 某不孝,延祸先子,罪逆之深,自分无复比数于人。仁人君子尚未之知,悯念其旧,远使存录,重以多仪,号恸拜辱,岂胜哀感!岂胜哀感!伏惟执事长才伟志,上追古人,进德勇义,罕与俦匹。向见《鸣冤录》及承所寄《道山书院记》,盖信道之笃,任道之劲,海内同志莫敢有望下风者矣,何幸何幸!不肖方在苦毒中,意所欲请者千万,荒迷割裂,莫得其端绪。使还遽,临疏昏塞,不尽所云。 Jiashen 往岁旌节临越,猥蒙枉顾。其时忧病懵懵,不及少申款曲。自后林居,懒僻成性,平生故旧不敢通音问。企慕之怀虽日以积,竟未能一奉起居,其为倾渴,如何可言!使来,远辱问惠,登拜感作。舍亲宋孔瞻亦以书来,备道执事勤勤下问之盛。不消奚以得此! 近世士夫之相与,类多虚文弥诳而实意衰薄,外和中妒,徇私败公,是以风俗日恶而世道愈降。执事忠信高明,克勤小物,长才伟识,翘然海内之望。而自视焰然,远念不遗,若古之君子;有而若无,以能问于不能者也。仆诚喜闻而乐道,自顾何德以承之?仆已无所可用于世,顾其心痛圣学之不明,是以人心陷溺至此,思守先圣之遗训,与海内之同志者讲求切劘之,庶亦少资于后学,不徒生于圣明之朝。然蔽惑既久,人是其非,其能虚心以相听者鲜矣。若执事之德盛礼恭而与人为善,此诚仆所愿效其愚者,然又邑里隔绝,无因握手一叙,其为倾渴又如何可言耶!虽然,目击而道存,仆见执事之书,既已知执事之心,虽在千万里外,当有不言而信者。谨以新刻小书二册奉求教正。盖鄙心之所欲效者,亦略具于其中矣。便间幸示。 Jiashen 惟乾之事将申遂没,痛哉!冤乎!不如是无以明区区罪恶之重至于贻累朋友,不如是无以彰诸君之笃于友道。It hurts!冤乎!不有诸君在,则其身没之后,将莫知所在矣,况有为之衣衾棺殓者乎!是则犹可以见惟乾平日为善之报,于大不幸之中而尚有可幸者存也。呜呼,痛哉!即欲为之一洗,自度事势未能遽脱,或必须进京,候到京日再与诸君商议而行之。苟遂归休,终须一举,庶可少泄此痛耳。其归丧一事,托王邦相为之经理。倘有不便,须仆到京,图之未晚也。行李倥偬中,未暇悉欲所言,千万心照! Jiashen 近得宗贤寄示《礼疏》,明甚。诚甫之议,当无不同矣。古之君子,恭敬撙节退让以明礼,仆之所望于二兄者,则在此而不彼也。果若是,以为斯道之计,进于议礼矣。先妻不幸于前日奄逝,方在悲悼中;适陈子文往,草草存间阔。 two Jiashen 别久极渴一语,子莘来,备道诸公进修,亦殊慰。大抵吾人习染已久,须得朋友相挟持。离群索居,即未免隳惰。诸公既同在留都,当时时讲习为佳也。 three Yiyou 盛价来,领手札,知有贵恙,且喜渐平复矣。贱躯自六月暑病,然两目蒙蒙,两耳蓬蓬,几成废人,仅存微息,旬日前,元忠、宗贤过此,留数日北去。山庐卧病,期少谢人事,而应接亦多。今复归卧小阁,省愆自讼而已。闻有鼓枻之兴,果尔,良慰渴望。切劘砥砺之益,彼此诚不无也。 Yiyou 承欲刻王信伯遗言,中间极有独得之见,非余儒所及。惜其零落既久,后学莫有传之者。因勉之寄此。又知程门有此人也,幸甚幸甚!中间如论明道、伊川处,似未免尚有执著,然就其所到,已甚高明特远,不在游、杨诸公之下矣。中间可省略者,删去之为佳。凡刻古人文字,要在发明此学,惟简明切实之为贵;若支辞蔓说,徒乱人耳目者,不传可也。What does Gao Ming think?
