[Chai's said] Living together for generations has been a beautiful talk since ancient times.如杨椿、张公艺、江州陈氏、浦江郑氏之属,并见旌异。而袁君载独云,每见义居之家,交争相疾,甚于路人,则甚美反成不美。故兄弟当分,宜早有所定,倘能相爱,虽异居异财,亦不害为孝义也。余谓一家内外大小,果能同心协力,自当以共居为善,倘其间未免参差,恐难强合,而不相得,不如析箸为愈耳。至于父子别籍,如蔡京、蔡攸之各立门户,挟诈相倾,则恶之大者。史记言商君治秦,令民有二男以上不分异者,倍其赋。又言秦人家富子壮则出分家,贫子壮则出赘,以为国俗之敝。而陆贾家于好畤,有五男。出所使越得橐中装,卖千金,分其子,子二百金,令其生产。陆生常安车驷马,从歌舞琴瑟侍者十人,宝剑直百金,谓其子曰,与汝约,过汝,汝给吾人马酒食,极欲十日而更。所死家得宝剑、车骑、侍从者。后人或谓之为达。至唐姚崇遗令,以达宫身后子孙失荫,多至贫寒。斗尺之间,参商是竞。欲仿陆生之意,预为分定,将以绝其后争。呜呼,此衰世之意也。汉桓帝之世,更相滥举,时人为之语曰,举秀才,不知书。察孝廉,父别居。 【原注】见抱朴子。当世之俗,犹以分居为耻。若吴之陈表,世为将督。兄修亡后,表母不肯事修母,表谓其母曰,兄不幸早世,表统家事、当奉嫡母。母若能为表屈情承顺嫡母者,是至愿也。母若不能,直当出别居耳。由是二母感寤雍穆。可以见东汉之流风矣。陈氏礼书言,周之盛时,宗族之法行,故得以此系民而民不散。及秦用商君之法,富民有子则分居,贫民有子则出赘,由是其流及上,虽王公大人亦莫知有敬宗之道。浸淫后世,习以为俗。而时君所以统驭之者,特服纪之律而已。间有纠合宗族,一再传而不散者,则人异之,以为义门,岂非名生于不足欤?应劭风俗通曰,凡兄弟同居,上也。通有无,次也。让,其下耳。岂非中庸之行,而今人以为难能者哉?五杂俎言,张公艺九世同居,高宗问之,书忍字百余以进。其意美矣,而未尽善也。居家御众,当令纪纲法度截然有章,乃可行之永久。若使姑妇勃谿,奴仆放纵,而为家长者仅含默隐忍而已,此不可一朝居,而况九世乎?善乎,浦江郑氏对太祖之言曰,臣同居无他,惟不听妇人言耳。此格论也,虽百世可也。 【汝成案】颜氏家训,兄弟之际,异于他人,望深则易怨,地亲则易弭。譬犹居空,一穴则塞之,一隙则涂之,则无颓毁之虑。如雀鼠之不恤,风雨之不防,壁陷楹沦,无可救矣。仆妾之为雀鼠,妻子之为风雨,甚哉!又曰,娣姒者,多争之地,使骨肉居之,亦不若各归四海,感霜露而相思,伫日月之相望也。况以行路之人,处多争之地,能无间者鲜矣。所以然者,以其当公务而执私情,处重责而怀薄义也。又曰,妇主中馈,惟事酒食衣服之礼尔。国不可使预政,家不可使干蛊。如有聪明才智,识达古今,正当辅佐君子,助其不足,必无牝鸡晨鸣,以致祸也。此即郑氏不听妇言意也。然阴忮性成,侜张百出,女诫虽陈,淄蠹逾甚,即妇言不听何益哉!昔姚刑部以为出妻之事,后重于古,私昵之情益多,治家之严正益衰,女德有所怙而益放,是论亦齐家道也。惟俗狃脱辐,事托蒸梨,或虐威姑,或移宠惑,贫富生嫌,赘余益憾,不特出无所归为可矜耳。再适为难,曲容是尚。善乎王伯厚言曰,言行可以欺于人,而不可以欺于家。故家人之象曰,君子以言有物而行有恒。性质中人,变化斯易。嘻嘻嗃嗃,贤者当反身矣。唐玄宗天宝元年正月敕,如闻百姓有户高丁多,苟为规避,父母见在,乃别籍异居,宜令州县勘会。其一家之中有十丁已上者,放两丁征行赋役,五丁已上放一丁。即令同籍共居,以敦风教。其赋丁孝假与免差科。 【原注】谓应赋之丁,遇父母亡,则免差科,谓之孝假。按此后周太祖所制,若罹凶礼,则不征其赋者也。可谓得化民之术者矣。父子异部三国志言,冀州俗,父子异部,更相毁誉。今之江浙之间多有此风,一入门户,父子兄弟各树党援,两不相下。万历以后,三数见之。此其无行谊之尤,所谓惟吊,兹不于我政人得罪,天惟与我民彝大泯乱者矣。生日生日之礼,古人所无。 【原注】余昔年流寓蓟门,生日有致馈者。答书云,小弁之逐子,始说我辰。哀郢之放臣,乃言初度。颜氏家训曰,江南风俗,儿生一期,为制新衣,盥浴装饰,男则用弓矢纸笔,女则刀尺针缕,并加饮食之物及珍宝服玩,置之儿前,观其发意所取,以验贪廉智愚,名之为试儿。亲表聚集,因成宴会。自兹以后,二亲若在,每至此日,常有饮食之事。无教之徒虽已孤露,【原注】魏晋间,人以父亡为孤露。嵇康与山巨源绝交书,少加孤露。赵彦深见母,自陈幼小孤露。亦谓之偏露,唐孟浩然送莫氏甥诗,平生早偏露。其日皆为供顿,酣畅声乐,不知有所感伤。梁孝元年少之时,每八月六日载诞之辰,尝设斋讲。自阮修容【原注】元帝所生母。薨后,此事亦绝。是此礼起于齐梁之间。逮唐宋以后,自天子至于庶人,无不崇饰。此日开筵召客,赋诗称寿,而于昔人反本乐生之意,去之远矣。 【杨氏曰】以生日宴百官,始于唐明皇帝之开元十七年。 【钱氏曰】古有上寿之礼,无庆生日之礼。汉书,卢绾与高帝同日生,里中以羊酒贺两家。是贺生子,非贺生日也。唐中宗景龙三年十一月十五日,帝诞辰,内殿宴群臣,联句。册府元龟载,唐开元十七年八月癸亥,以降诞之日,大置酒张乐,宴百寮于花萼楼下。终宴,尚书左丞相源乾曜、右丞相张说,率文武百官上表,请以八月五日为千秋节,著之甲令,布于天下,咸令宴乐,休假三日。群臣以是日献甘露醇酎,上万岁寿酒。此帝王生日上寿之始。宋史礼志,大中祥符五年十一月,以宰相王旦生日,诏赐羊三十口,酒五十壶,米面各二十斛,令诸司供帐,京府具衙前乐,许宴其亲友,且遂会近列及丞郎、给谏、修史属官。俄又赐枢密使副参知政事羊三十口,酒三十壶,米面各二十斛。其后以废务非便,奏罢会,而赐如故。此大臣生日宴会之始。考容斋三笔载,冯道在晋天福中为上相,诏赐生辰器币。道以幼属流离,早丧父母,不记生日,恳辞不受。则宰相生日有赐,不始于宋矣。王明清挥麈录赐生辰器币起于唐,以宠藩镇。五代至遣使命,周世宗眷遇魏宣懿,始以赐之,自是执政为例。礼志载,绍兴十三年十二月二十三日,赐宰臣秦桧辞免生日赐宴诏,是南渡复有生日赐宴之例也。东坡内制集具载赐生日诏,自宰相、执政而外,又有赐皇叔祖安康郡王宗隐生日礼物口宣、赐皇叔祖华原郡王宗愈生日礼物口宣、赐皇叔祖汉东郡王宗瑗生日礼物口宣、赐皇伯祖高密郡王宗晟生日礼物口宣、赐皇叔扬王颢生日礼物口宣、赐皇弟大宁郡王佖生日礼物口宣、赐皇弟祚国公偲生日礼物口宣、赐皇弟咸宁郡王俣生日礼物口宣、赐建安郡王宗绰生日礼物口宣、赐皇叔荆王頵生日礼物口宣、赐嗣濮王宗晖生日礼物口宣、赐皇弟遂宁郡王佶生日礼物口宣、赐皇弟普宁郡王似生日礼物口宣、赐济阳郡王曹佾生日礼物口宣。是宋时亲王等生日均有赐礼物之例,不特宰相也。陈思王植陈思王植初封临菑侯,闻魏氏代汉,发服悲哭,文帝
