Chapter 32 Chapter 03

In the evening of the next day, Ying followed Hui to the student assembly.Hui didn't tell her where the venue was, she just followed Hui silently. She was in a strange mood.It was nervous, it was exciting, she couldn't find words to describe it. They walked through an alley and then a long street, always walking on uneven cobblestone roads, occasionally there were a few old small courtyards beside the road.In several places, deep grass grew beside the road.It had just rained and the slate was a little slippery. The air is very fresh, and has the fragrance of grass and trees. The lychee trees jutting out from the yard are in bloom.

There is no moon, and a few stars hang from the sky.It was bright. The street was very quiet, and they walked on some back streets, so there were almost no other pedestrians to be seen at this time. Occasionally a dog or two ran behind them and barked.Shadow's heart pounded with fright.Hui is not afraid at all.Her serene attitude made Ying very envious. At last they stopped in front of an old courtyard gate. Two low doors shut everything inside. In Ying's eyes, this yard is no different from others. But Hui gently knocked on the door twice, and the door opened immediately.A child's face emerged from it.

"Hui, it's you." The child smiled at Hui, and looked at Ying with innocent eyes.Seeing his innocent face, Ying felt very strange: he was very young, no more than fifteen or sixteen years old. "This is Ying, the female student I mentioned," Hui explained to the child, and walked inside with Ying. "He is so young, so he came to participate?" Ying asked Hui in a low voice as he walked. "He's not the youngest, he's already nineteen years old," Hui said nonchalantly. She went to answer the greetings of other young people. After walking through the courtyard, they entered a small corridor, and a staircase led them upstairs.

There were quite a few people in the two rooms upstairs. The front room is connected to the terrace. The room is not big, with only a few pieces of old furniture. Many people sat on the ground.De has come. Shadow saw him standing on the terrace talking to two students. People asked Ying to sit on the wooden bed, and there were two female students sitting beside her.Hui went to the terrace.Several groups in the room were talking in low tones. Then a few more people came.Night followed. "Ming, no one else will come," De asked the square-faced student standing at the door, turning around on the balcony.Without waiting for Ming's answer, he continued, "There's no need to wait, let's have a meeting."

"Well, it's full," Min replied, and there was a small commotion in the room, as people from the back rooms and the terrace crowded into the front room.Except for five or six people, everyone sat cross-legged on the ground. The door is closed. The dim light of an old kerosene lamp on a table painted some faces dimly with yellow.Everyone was silent.Three or four people were coughing in choked noises. After a moment of silence, Ming's voice sounded. Ming explained the original intention of the meeting, and asked De to speak.De sat in front of the table, with his back to the lamp.People can't see his face clearly, but his words will not be missed. From the beginning to the end, he didn't pause in the middle.Enthusiasm inspired him and made him inspire others. He spoke about how youth groups should step up in the current environment. His arguments sounded eloquent to the ears of those students.Every young man's heart trembled at his words.

Shadow is unfamiliar in this environment. But De's words attracted her.She never took her eyes off De during these times.De's face pressed her eyes like an eagle's.She was tormented by two thoughts: Sometimes, stop talking; sometimes, keep talking. She heard his words completely and chewed them carefully. Many words made her sad, but she couldn't help saying in her heart: "You have a reason. You have a reason." In her modest girl's heart, she valued virtue too much. There was not a sound in the street.Night peeps in through the window. The air in the room was very stuffy, and many people were coughing softly. But De's words still flowed without hindrance, like a stream of water. The water flowed into Ying's heart, washing away all her timidity. "He pointed at me a lot, and he pointed at my weaknesses," she couldn't help thinking excitedly when she heard De said that she should maintain an uncompromising attitude towards the old forces.

The water finally ran out.De shut up and let the other youth speak. Then the third said, and so on.All work reports and future work plans.Shadow felt that he could not understand everything. But she listened hard too.She was very surprised: several very young students were so brave. She used to meet them too.And the unattractive female student sitting next to her also said a lot of exciting things. When she was introduced among those companions, she blushed unconsciously.Others asked her a few words one after another, but she could hardly answer for a while. It will be over later. The door opened and people left one after another. The students walked down the stairs barefoot, and every young man had a serious expression on his face. They didn't speak, as if they had accepted a major mission to leave here.

Ying followed Hui away. They don't move fast. After a while De caught up from behind. He walked ahead of them, talking to a student. No one prepared torches. The gray-white sky pointed the way for this group of people. While talking to Hui, Ying pays attention to De's back.De's slender shadow hovered over her head like an eagle, its large wings covering everything in front of her.
