[靖本多一"补"字,作"未补成",署名缺"叟"字。 ] 到了现存的庚本,当然已经由同一个抄手一路抄下来了,因此笔迹相同。 回内贾政请贾母赏灯。 地下婆娘丫头站满。李宫裁王熙凤二人在里间又一席。贾政因不见贾兰,便问"怎么不见兰哥?"地下婆娘忙进里间问李氏。李氏起身笑着回道:"他说方才老爷并没去叫他,他不肯来。"婆娘回覆了贾政,众人都笑说:"天生的牛心古怪。"贾政忙遣贾环与两个婆娘将贾兰唤来。 水浒金瓶里似乎都有"婆娘"这名词,是对妇人轻亵的称谓,带骂人的口吻。此处应作"婆子",指较年老的仆妇,因为有男主人在座,年轻的家人媳妇不便上前。书中"嬷嬷"大都是保姆。至于职位低的"老妈妈们",那是下江人的普通话,"婆子"是北方话。接连四次称"婆娘",可见不是笔误。戚本也是一样。 戚本此回是完整的,有宝钗制谜,那首七律,没说出谜底。贾政猜谜,先看了元春的: 贾政道:"这是爆竹嗄(庚本作)?" 后来看到惜春的诗谜: 贾政道:"这是佛前海灯嗄?"(庚本自此二句起缺) "嗄"读音介于"价"与"娇"之间,是道地苏白,"海上花列传"等吴语小说里都通用。早期白话将"呀"写作"",如曲文中的"相公!""夫人!""嗄"改""是此书改去吴语的一例。此处第二个"嗄"字再加上"婆娘"充分显示戚本此回可靠,是最早的早本,有时候夹着吴语,白话常欠通顺,戚本独有的回末一节文言更多。 回内宝钗生日演戏,有一个小旦。 凤姐笑道:"这个孩子扮上,活像一个人,你们再看不出来。"宝钗心里也知道,便一笑。宝玉也猜着了,亦不敢说。史湘云接着笑道:"倒像林妹妹的模样儿。" ──庚、戚本同 看来早本湘云比黛玉大,在第二十、第三十二回就已经改为"林姐姐"了,此处是个漏网之鱼。宝钗生日是正月二十一,次日贾政请贾母赏灯,在上房"贾母贾政宝玉一席,下面王夫人宝钗黛玉湘云又一席,迎探惜三个又一席。……李宫裁王熙凤二人在里间又一席。"可以没有贾赦贾琏,似乎不能没有邢夫人。如果因为不是正式过节,只拣贾母喜欢的人,连贾环也在座。 早本贾家家谱较简,"风月宝鉴"收入此书后才有宁府。原先连贾赦都没有,只有贾政这一房──贾琏可能是个堂侄,因为娶了王夫人的内侄女,所以夫妇俩都替贾政管家。──因此贾政不过官居员外郎,倒住著“上房","正紧正内室",荣国公贾赦倒住着小巧的别院,沿街另一个大门出入。早先俞平伯在"红楼梦研究"里仿佛就说过他们住得奇怪。 第二十二回筹备宝钗生日,"贾母……次日便先送过衣服玩物礼去,王夫人凤姐黛玉等诸人皆有随分不一,不须多记。"送礼吃酒看戏都没提邢夫人。贾母叫黛玉点戏,"黛玉因让薛姨妈王夫人等",也许可能包括邢夫人在内,但是似应作"让薛姨妈邢夫人等",不能越过她的大舅母,只把二舅母姊妹并提。──全抄本此回据程乙本抄配,此处作"让王夫人等",大概是因为贾母的一段对白: 黛玉因让薛姨妈王夫人等。贾母道:今日原是我特带着你们取笑,咱们只管咱们的,别理他们。我巴巴的唱戏摆酒,为他们不成?他们在这里白听白吃,已经便宜,还让他们点呢!"说着,大家都笑了。 贾母口中的"你们""他们"将钗黛凤姐等与她们的上一代对立,连薛姨妈都包括在内,是贾母的风趣。程本认为对亲戚不能这么不客气,因此删去"薛姨妈"。 宝钗生日邢夫人似有若无,但是贾母拿出二十两银子来给宝钗做生日的时候,与凤姐有一段对白,末了贾母说: "……你婆婆也不敢强嘴,你和我梆梆的。"凤姐笑道:"我婆婆也是一样的疼宝玉,我也没处去诉,倒说我强嘴。" 此处一提凤姐的婆婆邢夫人,是有了贾赦之后改写过,不像下半回赏灯猜谜是纯早本。 自甲辰本到程本,此回都缺惜春谜,又把宝钗制谜移作黛玉的,打"香"或"更香",另添宝玉宝钗二谜。俞平伯说:"甲辰本叙事略同程甲本而甚简单,自更香一谜直至回末,作: 贾政道:"这个莫非是香?"宝玉代言道:"是。"贾政又看道:南面而坐,北面而朝。象忧亦忧,象喜亦喜。打一物。贾政道:"好,好!大约是镜子。"宝玉笑回道:"是。"贾政道:"是谁做的?"贾母道:"这个大约是宝玉做的。"贾政就不言语,往下再看道是:有眼无珠腹内空,荷花出水喜相逢。梧桐叶落分离别,恩爱夫妻不到冬。打一物。贾政看到此谜,明知是竹夫人,今值元宵,语句不吉,便佯作不知,不往下看了。于是夜阑,杯盘狼藉,席散各寝。后事下回分解。 这是从脂庚到程甲的连锁,所补当比较早。今红楼梦稿这回既据程乙本抄配,自在甲辰本之后……"(见"谈新刊乾隆抄本百廿回红楼梦稿",中华文史论丛第五辑,第四四一至四四二页) 俞平伯没提起戚本此回与甲辰、程本这系统的关系。从表面上看来,是甲辰本续成庚本未完的这一回,程甲本又参看戚本添补加长,加上戚本这两段:贾政回房伤感失眠;贾政去后宝玉宝钗凤姐一场生动的小戏──但是改宝钗为黛玉。程甲本没发觉此处凤姐的对白与甲辰本所加的宝玉谜语冲突:"刚才我忘了为什么不当着老爷撺掇叫你也作诗谜儿。"分明宝玉并没有制灯谜。 此外甲辰本"时值元宵"句日期错误,程甲本改了。 其实甲辰本也是根据戚本增删改写的,与庚本无干。删惜春谜,大概因为与第五回犯重,而又排列得较死板,四春顺序下来。删去贾政失眠一段,想必因为太娘娘腔多愁善感。删去回末那场精彩的小戏,正是因为凤姐的对白与甲辰本新添的宝玉制谜冲突。程甲本又把后两段都恢复了。 甲辰本并没说竹夫人谜是谁的,因为这流行的民间谜语太粗俗了,一说穿是宝钗的,就使人觉得不像,宝钗怎么会写得出"恩爱夫妻不到冬"这种话?甲辰本这一段相当技巧,程本却给添上"宝钗的"。 但是甲辰本宝黛钗三人制谜下有批注:"此黛玉一生愁绪之意","此宝玉之镜花水月","此宝钗金玉成空"。大概也就是改写此回的人自批,免得读者不懂。批语与正文中明点又不同些,因为不过是批者的意见,读者可以恍恍惚惚将信将疑。 改这一回的,如果不是作后四十回的续书人,至少有续书的计画,而且也是写宝玉娶宝钗后出家。他不是梦觉主人,因为此本的"梦觉主人序"是这样结束的: 书之传述未终,余帙杳不可得;既云梦者,宜乎留其有余不尽,犹人之梦方觉,兀坐追思,置怀抱于永永也。 不是蓄意续书者的话。 这篇序开始说: 辞传闺秀而涉于幻者,故是书以梦名也。夫梦曰红楼,乃巨家大室儿女之情,事有真不真耳。红楼富女,诗证香山;悟幻庄周,梦归蝴蝶;作是书者藉以命名,为之"红楼梦"焉。 显然书名"红楼梦",通篇没提"石头记"。而且此本目录前、每回前后、每叶中缝都标明"红楼梦"三字(见周汝昌著“红楼梦新证"第一○二五页)。迄今误作"甲辰本石头记",大概是因为当时(一七八四年)"石头记"脍炙人口,"红楼梦"没人知道,书商见是同一部书,另加题页,采用"石头记"书名。 当然,续书人也用"红楼梦"这名字。这一个巧合,与甲辰本改第二十二回的人与序之间的矛盾,有一个可能的解释:此本是续书人的前八十回,后四十回还没写完,或是起初不被接受,但是此书的八十回本是有市价的,十分昂贵,所以已经传抄了出去,成为一个独立的单位,辗转落到梦觉主人手中。 戚本贾政猜惜春制谜后,自忖四姊妹制谜都是不祥之兆,个别分析,这一段太露骨,破坏了预言应有的神秘气氛,文笔也乏弱。下接宝钗制谜。庚本在惜春的谜语后截断,回后附记宝钗制谜,不管是作者自己还是批者写给作者的备忘录,都是摘录删文中保留的一个谜语,并非摘录一回本背面破损的阙文,其理甚明。因此庚本此回与全抄本第二十四回同一情形,都是回末改写抽换,而缺改稿。 畸笏似乎不会没看过原有的第二十二回,但是因为一贯的不提改写,只说"此回未补成而芹逝矣","补"可能是指回尾破失,也可能是未完待续,完全无视于戚本此回的存在。 第二十二回与第六十三回同是从最早的早本里保留下来的,而太虚幻境的预言写得比较晚,相隔的年数太久,因此一部份与这两回的预言重复。太虚幻境在此书是后进,再加上贾瑞的故事中的线索,可知太虚幻境是跟著“风月宝鉴"一起搬过来的,原名"太虚玄境",吸收入此书后改名太虚幻境。这是在十载五次增删中。有了太虚幻境,才有金陵十二钗簿籍,有红楼梦曲。因此"增删五次"后,书名改为"金陵十二钗",畸笏又主张用"红楼梦"为总名。 金陵十二钗都属于薄命司,因此预言湘云早寡。本来她是与卫若兰白头偕老的。"因麒麟伏白首双星"是从早本保留下来的回目。这大概就是"白首双星"的谜底。 一七六七年畸笏惋惜"后数十回"内的卫若兰射圃文字遗失了,显然"后数十回"其他的部份尚在。次年一七六八,乾隆三十三年,永忠作"因墨香得观红楼梦小说吊雪芹"诗三首。墨香名额尔赫宜,是曹雪芹的朋友敦诚敦敏兄弟的叔父,但是比敦诚还小十岁(见赵冈著“红楼梦新探"第一三四页)。他没有"庚辰秋月定本"的八十回本"石头记",只有一七五四本前的百回"红楼梦",里面想必缺卫若兰射圃回,像"庚辰秋月定本"之缺第六十四、六十七回。 百回"红楼梦"里贾家没有抄家,获罪后荣府仍聚居原址,"散场"在获罪前,宝玉迁出园去,探春远嫁,黛玉死了。迎春之死大概也在这时候。太虚幻境预言迎春婚后"一载赴黄粱","叹芳魂艳魄,一载荡悠悠。"她是秋天出嫁的。合看第二十六与第七十九回批语,后文有潇湘馆"落叶萧萧,寒漠漠",是黛玉死后"对境悼颦儿"。"落叶萧萧,"又是秋天了。 自一七五四本添写抄家,一七六○初叶写狱神庙,关于"抄没、狱神庙诸事",代替原有的获罪一回。八十回后获罪前的几回不受影响,不需要改。这几回其实是百回"红楼梦"的高潮。因为避讳抄家,写荣府受的打击较轻,而将重心移到时间的悲剧上,少年时代一过,都被逐出乐园。此后祸发,只毁了宁府,荣府的衰落不过加速与表面化。第七十二回林之孝已经在说"家道艰难",建议遣散一部份婢女奴仆,出事后实行遣散,导致袭人之去。去后终于与蒋玉菡一同奉养宝玉宝钗夫妇,成为末一二十回的一条主线。 直到一七六八年,作者逝世后五六年,自八十一回起的这几回定稿还保存在百回"红楼梦"里,结果竟失传了。 In the long-term rewriting, the manuscripts that have been circulated earlier have been following the same step, and the manuscripts have been changed and revised.In order to save copying work, all the books except the Jiaxu edition can be called the Baina edition.
