Chapter 10 Section 9: The psychologically hardest-hit areas after "9.11"

Life is a mystery, and the mystery is because of impermanence. Since it is a mystery, it is the secret of God. Because people do not understand the secrets of God, they regard it as a mystery. but, any mystery, If its meaning can be interpreted, Then people have entered the realm of God's freedom. As a psychiatrist, one of my jobs is to help people interpret the mysteries of life; to calm people's frightened minds when faced with the sudden onslaught of impermanence; to understand the reality and meaning of life when faced with self-confusion. When impermanence suddenly descended on Manhattan, I was there and felt it.Writing my experience here can let people understand the terrifying power of impermanence and the various reactions people show in the face of disasters.Impermanence is a sharp sword hanging over the heads of the world. This time, the Americans on Manhattan Island in New York were hurt, but who can guarantee that the sword of impermanence will not fall on our heads next time? ?

I saw another weird picture I love autumn in New York, because the sky in New York in autumn is always blue, that kind of blue sky. When I look up at the beautiful sky, I often feel that my soul will be absorbed by the blue sky, and the moment I look up at the blue sky, my heart will be filled with a wonderful feeling. On September 11 in New York, the sky was blue and blue. At 10:00 that morning, I went to work at the Counseling and Psychotherapy Center on Fifth Avenue as usual.I saw strange expressions on the faces of many people on Fifth Avenue, and some people were running around inexplicably.I don't know what's going on, I just feel that the atmosphere has become strange and trance. When I walked into the treatment center, I found that it was a mess inside. Everyone was anxiously calling, but the phone couldn't be connected, and some people were crying in anxiety. It was kind of the end of the world, and I'm still baffled.

The first thing Greg, the social worker at the treatment center said when he saw me was: "The World Trade Center was attacked, what do you Chinese think?" "The World Trade Center is the sister building?" This is really an incredible thing. "Yes, this is a war, this is a war." Greg muttered. Among a large crowd of chaotic people, Dr. Graham, the director of the treatment center, walked from the depths of the corridor with a smile on his face. The smile on Dr. Graham's face seemed strange among the large crowd of mournful faces. Not coordinated. The first thing he said when he saw me was: "There must be Chinese people who died in that building." It made me feel like "You Chinese, don't be too happy, there must be Chinese people who died in that building."

Dr. Graham once served as the president of the American Psychological Association, which is a standard American old world.Because of the suddenness of the "9.11" terrorist incident, no one can predict in advance what the reactions of various people will be like at that specific historical moment.Dr. Graham said with a smile, "there must have been Chinese people who died in that building."It is very meaningful. When "9.11" happened, were the Chinese very happy? This is an extremely sensitive topic. In the United States, it is impossible for you to honestly tell Americans that some Chinese people are very happy about the occurrence of 9.11.But in fact, quite a few Chinese people were ecstatic at the moment when "9.11" happened. But after calming down, we should have a new interpretation of Dr. Graham's words: "Chinese, terrorist attacks may also come to you one day."

As soon as I heard what Greg and Dr. Graham said, I ran out the door because the World Trade Center was very clearly visible on Fifth Avenue. But when I got to Fifth Avenue, there was only smoke rising in the direction of the World Trade Center. Staring at the brown smoke, a strong sorrow surged from my heart, and my whole body was filled with pain and sorrow. At that moment, life becomes so fragile that rational thinking seems to stop completely. There is only one voice in my head: "Why is this? Why is this?" "9.11" is a tragedy for the United States, but it is also a tragedy for all mankind.Tragedy like this should not be fodder for after-dinner jokes by any member of humanity who wants to live a meaningful life.It is really necessary for us to carefully explore the shadow cast by this tragic event on people's hearts and re-examine the meaning of life.

At the moment when I was in a daze of grief, Danny, another social worker at the treatment center, proposed to visit St. Vincent's Hospital. So, we walked and chatted to St. Vincent's Hospital.Seeing hundreds of people queuing up outside the hospital, I asked Danny why there were so many people queuing up, and he told me it was for blood donation.I was amazed at the mutual aid awareness that Americans showed immediately in the face of disasters, and I immediately realized that behind the question I asked, it actually reflected my indifference to this mutual aid awareness. Back at the treatment center, many of my patients had canceled their appointments and only one patient showed up as usual.I thought she would focus the conversation on this disaster, but she focused on her personal psychological problems as usual, and the disaster outside didn't seem to stir up too much waves in her heart. On Wednesday, none of my patients reported to the clinic.I called and left messages with everyone, and one patient said to me in a very faint voice on the phone: "I'm scared, I don't want to go out this week."

In most of the reports in the United States, what we see is how Americans are united in one mind and one enemy in common. But what exactly do Americans think after the disaster, I have come to another weird conclusion in my conversations with my American friends and my psychopaths. The Religious Paradox: Osama Bin Laden Should Be Loved Mainstream Americans regard Christianity as the state religion of the United States. On the night of the "9.11" terrorist incident, almost all churches were filled with panicked and mournful crowds. In the face of unstoppable disasters, the first rescue that people think of is Almighty God.

The church is naturally a sanctuary for souls in people's minds. When people enter the church, they will have a subconscious expectation. If God comes to pick up the world, the church should be the first point of contact for God's spaceship.People prayed, sang hymns, and comforted each other in the church, which is probably how the first night of the catastrophe passed. But soon people were obsessed with an unavoidable question, where was God when the "9.11" terrorist incident occurred? *Was God there? An all-powerful, all-knowing and loving God should be present. But since God was there, why didn't the old man stop it?

*Maybe God is too busy, the old man is not there at that moment?Isn't God omniscient?Even if the old man is too busy to tell where he is, he can send an angel. *God is omnipotent, God must know this matter, but God did not prevent this from happening, does God want to use this matter to convey some secret to the world? *If God really wanted to use this to convey something secret to the world, then why would God use the devil's hand to convey His great will?Doesn’t the devil become a servant of God?Even if God wants to convey his great will, why does the old man use such a horrible way to do it?If God thinks this is an effective means of educating the world, isn't God the father of terrorism?
