Parents should consciously avoid words and comments that lead to resentment and disgust: Name-calling: You are a disgrace to the school and a disgrace to the family. Prophecy: Like you, sooner or later you will go to jail! Threats: No more pocket money and no more TV if you don't quiet down. Condemnation: You are always the first to get in trouble. Bossy: Sit down, shut up, and eat your dinner.
