Chapter 7 6. Teach children to speak without rushing for success

From the day they are born, children listen to us.We keep talking to them before they can understand what we are saying, or while they are learning to imitate the sounds they hear. Some nannies often let their children listen to some beautiful nursery rhymes. I have no objection to this practice, as long as they don't babble non-stop in the children's ears. When talking to children, the language must be simple and clear, and can be repeated frequently if necessary. We can tell them the names of the objects they see.Don't tell your children long-winded nonsense, it will make them dizzy.

Opinions vary on the question of the form and structure of language in children. No matter how we teach them, in the end they learn to speak in the same way. If we study children's language carefully, we will find that their language contains a large number of analogous words. These similar words are very blunt and do not conform to the grammatical norms, so it is difficult for some people to accept them. However, it is not necessary if we are trying to correct children's language errors. Over time, they correct themselves. As long as we make no mistakes when speaking to them, they will subtly correct their language according to our language habits.

Another big mistake we often make is trying to rush things when it comes to teaching our children to speak. The result of this is often contrary to our expectations. Instead of learning to speak quickly, the child's pronunciation becomes even less clear. Because others pay too much attention to them, they always try to pronounce every syllable to win the appreciation of others.Once they are not sure how to pronounce the pronunciation accurately, they will be afraid to open their mouths, and some even have life-long problems. Not only do they speak incoherently, but they also cannot speak clearly.

When learning to speak, children's minor language problems can be corrected. But if we beat them too often, pick on the tone of their voice, criticize the words they use, they will be ashamed to speak in front of people, and this kind of psychological damage will be difficult to repair. When learning to speak, it is enough for the child to listen to the words he can understand, or to make the sounds he can make. When he stutters and can't express what he wants to say, there's absolutely no need to try to figure out what he's saying. Forcing others to understand one's own words and understand one's own meaning is also a manifestation of desire to dominate others, and children should not be allowed to develop this habit.

In this case, we only need to listen carefully to what he said. As for the meaning of what the children said, we should let them find a way to express it clearly. In the matter of teaching children to speak, there must be no haste. When they realize the usefulness of language, they will naturally learn to speak. The biggest disadvantage of our eagerness to teach our children this and that, even though they are not yet old enough to learn to speak, is that we do not understand them at all, and they do not understand us.Words in a child's language have different meanings than ours, and the result can only be misunderstandings on both sides.

Therefore, it is not a good thing for children to master too many words. If children master more words than their concepts, their thoughts will not be able to keep up with their expressions, which is not beneficial to children. In my opinion, the thinking of country people is clearer than that of city people. This is because the vocabulary of country people is relatively small. All aspects of a child's development start at the same time. He starts to talk, walk, and eat at about the same time. This was the beginning of his life. Before that, he was in his mother's arms for a period of time.

As Ovid once said: "He lives without knowing that he lives."
