Chapter 41 Chapter 4 Communication and Interaction——Let your eloquence surprise everyone

The speaker should not only maintain a strong enthusiasm for his speech topic, but also convey this enthusiasm to the audience, making the audience feel that what he said is very important. Let's call this ability "Lao Wang's selling melon skills" or " evangelism." As we all know, the speaker, the content of the speech, and the audience are the three elements that constitute a speech. But more than that, it is not a speech in the true sense.Only when the speaker makes his speech resonate and interact with the audience can the speech truly achieve its purpose. Therefore, the speaker must not only maintain a strong enthusiasm for his speech topic, but also convey this enthusiasm to the audience, so that the audience feels that what he said is very important. Let's call this ability "Lao Wang's selling melon skills" Or "evangelism".Famous rhetoricians in history all have such charm. They always hope that the audience will agree with their point of view, resonate with their own feelings, and share their happiness and sorrow together. They are audience-centered, not ego-centered, because they understand that the success or failure of their presentations is not determined by them, but by the heads and hearts of their audience.

At one point in my many years of teaching, I relied on the tenets of the textbook.I only know how to copy the habits my teachers have instilled for many years, but it turns out that they have not broken through the ethos of ostentatious lectures.I will never forget the first speech class I took. The teacher asked me to hang my arms lightly at my sides, palms facing back, fingers half-bent, and thumbs lightly touching my thighs. He also trained me to raise my arm in a graceful arc, to allow the wrist to turn gracefully, and then spread the index finger, then the middle finger, and finally the little finger. When I have completed this whole set of aesthetic and decorative movements, the arms have to go back to the arc just now and put them on the sides of the legs again. The whole performance is phony and ham-fisted, meaningless and insincere.Besides, my teacher didn't teach me to bring my personality into my speech, to talk with my audience naturally, kindly and energetically.

During the frugality movement, I went to the American Banking Institute New York branch to give a speech class. I trained a group of students. One of them had a serious problem. He could not communicate effectively with the audience. And all I had to do was help him become passionate about what he was going to say.I first asked him to calm down and think about his topic several times until he became interested in the content of the speech. And let him remember the fact that New York's "Probate Court Records" show that after 80% of people die, they leave no penny property to their loved ones, and only 3.3% of people leave a small amount of property .I want him to understand that he's not asking for a handout, or asking someone to do something they simply can't afford.I want him to say to himself, "I'm thinking about these people", "I want them to be able to live a comfortable and carefree life when they are old, and to leave their wives and children safe."I ended up convincing him that he was doing a great social service job.In short, he must regard himself as a soldier who eliminates the evils of the times.

When he did it according to the method I asked, he really aroused his strong enthusiasm for this work and made his blood boil during the speech. He felt that he was shouldering a heavy responsibility. When he went out to speak, he always infected his audience with words of conviction, he told them about the advantages of frugality, and told people that he would like to help them.He ceased to be a mere speaker of facts and became a good preacher, striving to convert the people to the faith of thrift.
