Wang Shitai (1910-2008), was born on March 17, 1910 in Huanglianhe Village, Tuji, Luochuan County, Shaanxi Province. In the autumn of 1927, he was admitted to Yan'an No. 4 Middle School and participated in the patriotic student movement. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1929 and later served as a member of the Party branch organization. In October 1930, he participated in the revolutionary activities led by Liu Zhidan and served as a member of the party branch. From September 1931 to June 1932, he was sent to the Kuomintang army to do military work. In September 1931, Yan Hongyan and Wu Daifeng led the Shanxi guerrilla brigade of the Chinese Red Army of Workers and Peasants to break through the natural barrier of the Yellow River and enter Shaanxi-Gansu. Gan Guerrilla Corps (beginning to call the Northwest Anti-Japanese Allied Army).

In June 1932, he joined the Shaanxi-Gansu Guerrilla Team and served as squad leader. In December of the same year, Du Heng (later rebelled) came to the Shaanxi-Gansu Guerrilla Team. In the Second Regiment of the 26th Army of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, Du Heng served as the political commissar of the army and the political commissar of the regiment, and arbitrarily stipulated that cadres above the original platoon of the Shaanxi-Gansu Guerrilla Army had no right to vote or be elected. In the election of the group leader, Wang Shitai, the squad leader, was elected.Wang Shitai led the Second Red Regiment under the command of Liu Zhidan to fight heroically against the reactionary militia groups and Kuomintang troops around the Jin Revolutionary Base.

In June 1933, after the failure of the Second Red Regiment to go south, they organized a separated team to kill the bully Lishen, and protected Liu Zhidan to overcome all difficulties and dangers and return to Zhaojin Xuejiazhai. In October 1933, he served as the commander of the second company of the Red Fourth Regiment of the temporary headquarters of the Shaanxi-Gansu Red Army. From November 1933 to August 1935, he served as the head of the third regiment of the 42nd Division of the 26th Red Army. In 1934, he was elected as an executive member of the Central Government of the Chinese Soviet.Participated in the struggle to open up the Shaanxi-Gansu border and northern Shaanxi revolutionary base areas.

In August 1935, he was wounded in the left thigh during the battle of Mujiaxolotl. In 1936, he served as Minister of the Military Department of the Ansai County Party Committee.From September of the same year to September 1937, he served as Deputy Minister of the Military Department of the Northern Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee. In February 1937, he entered the Chinese People's Anti-Japanese Military and Political University to study.After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, from October 1937 to April 1938, he served as the commander of the Security Command of the Qinghuan Division of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region.

From October 1938 to September 1942, he successively served as the deputy commander of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Security Command and the deputy commander of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Security Command. From October 1942 to October 1944, he served as political commissar of the Third Brigade of the Eighth Route Army's Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia-Shanxi-Sui Joint Defense Force and Secretary of the Trilateral Committee of the Communist Party of China. In January 1943, at the high-level cadres meeting of the Northwest Bureau, he was consistent with Gao Gang, participated in the criticism of Yan Hongyan and Wu Daifeng, and was highly praised and valued by Mao Zedong. He was the 22 leading cadres who were commended and rewarded one.Mao Zedong himself wrote an inscription for him "loyalty, hard work, no boasting, no coquettishness".

From December 1944 to August 1945, he served as the commander of the Guanzhong Garrison Command of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia-Shanxi-Sui Joint Defense Army. From April to June 1945, he attended the Seventh National Congress of the Communist Party of China as a member of the delegation of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region.From September to September of the same year, he served as deputy commander of the Eighth Army of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia-Shanxi-Suilian Alliance, and from September to July 1947 as acting commander. From September 1945 to June 1948, he was a member of the Standing Committee of the Northwest Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

From April 1946 to September 1949, he served as a member of the third government of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region. From February to March 1947, he served as the deputy commander of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Field Army. From March to October, he led small troops to go deep into the enemy's rear to carry out guerrilla warfare and regain the Guanzhong base. From September 1947 to September 1949, he served as the commander and party secretary of the fourth column of the Northwest Field Army. From September 1948 to February 1949, he served as a member of the Frontline Committee of the Northwest Field Army of the Communist Party of China.He led the team to participate in the battles of Guanzhong, Longdong, Yichuan Wazi Street, Huanglong, Xifu, Cheng (City) Tai (Yang), Libei and the Northwest Winter Committee offensive in 1948.

From February to June 1949, he served as commander of the Fourth Army of the First Field Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Army, and member of the Front Committee of the First Field Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.The command post participated in the 1949 Northwest Spring Committee Offensive and the Battle of Central Shaanxi. From January 1949 to September 1950, he served as political commissar and deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the Second Corps of the First Field Army.He led his troops to participate in the Fu (Feng) Mei (County) Battle, Longdong Pursuit Battle and other battles.

From July 1949 to January 1950, he served as the director of the Gansu Office and at the same time as a member of the Standing Committee of the Gansu Provincial Party Committee (until October 1952). In September 1949, he attended the first plenary session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.Participate in the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China.From October of the same year to December 1954, he served as a member of the Northwest Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. From December 1949 to 1952, he served as a member of the Northwest Military and Political Committee.

From January 1950 to November 1952, he served as Vice Chairman of the People's Government of Gansu Province.Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Provincial People's Government. From October 1950 to December 1952, he served as the vice chairman of the Consultative Committee of the first Gansu People's Congress. In 1951, he was transferred to the director, political commissar and secretary of the Standing Committee of the Northwest Railway Main Line Engineering Bureau.The Tian (Shui) Lan (State) Railway was completed and opened to traffic 10 months ahead of schedule. From August 1952 to November 1954, he served as Vice Minister of Railways.

From November 1954 to February 1958, he served as deputy director of the National Construction Commission and deputy secretary of the leading party group. From April to December 1958, he served as the deputy director of the State Planning Commission.From October of the same year to December 1960, he served as the deputy director of the Northwest Cooperation Area. In November 1960, he served as a member of the Northwest Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. At the same time, he served as the secretary of the Secretariat of the Gansu Provincial Party Committee of the Communist Party of China until February 1967. From March 1964 to October 1965, he concurrently served as secretary of the Gansu Ethnic Work Committee. From August 1961 to the early stage of the "Cultural Revolution", he served as the chairman of the second and third CPPCC in Gansu Province. Persecuted during the "Cultural Revolution". From January 1975 to December 1979, he served as the deputy director of the Revolutionary Committee of Gansu Province. From December 1977 to December 1979, he served as Chairman of the Fourth CPPCC of Gansu Province.
