Chapter 31 Jan Sen

Yang Sen (1908-1936), formerly known as Yang Zongkai, was born in Qian County, Shaanxi. In 1926, he entered the Shaanxi Provincial Vocational School to study agriculture and forestry, and participated in the eight-month struggle against Liu Zhenhua's siege of Xi'an City. In February 1927, he entered Xi'an Zhongshan Military Academy to study. After the "April 12" counter-revolutionary coup, he joined the Communist Party of China. In May 1929, according to the instructions of the CCP organization, he joined the party personnel training class organized by the Shaanxi Provincial Party Headquarters of the Kuomintang in Xi'an, and was subsequently appointed as the political instructor of the Lantian County Party Headquarters of the Kuomintang.Work underground in an open and legal capacity.

At the beginning of 1930, the Lantian Special Branch of the Communist Party of China was established and served as the deputy secretary of the board of directors. In September, he led the Blue Bridge Riot with Yang Shan, secretary of the special branch, and was arrested by the Kuomintang after the failure. He and Yang Shan were detained at the Xi'an Military Tribunal.It wasn't until Jiang, Yan, and Feng fought that they escaped from the prison. In 1931, he successively served as the chief inspector of the Fumei Aftermath Inspection Office and the deputy head of the militia group in the western district of Qianxian County, and continued to carry out revolutionary activities in secret.

In 1932, the Shaanxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China appointed the political commissar of the Shaanxi-Gansu Guerrilla Brigade of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. In June 1933, he was transferred to the Weibei guerrillas. In July, after the Weibei guerrillas were reorganized into the Fourth Regiment of the Red 26th Army, he served as the political commissar of the regiment and led the Fourth Regiment into the Zhaojin Revolutionary Base.In October of the same year, he was seriously injured in the battle against Taishui. He desperately commanded the battle on a stretcher. In November, the 42nd Division of the 26th Red Army was established and served as Secretary of the Party Committee.

In January 1934, he succeeded Gao Gang as the political commissar of the 42nd Division.From February to May of the same year, the Kuomintang carried out a military "encirclement and suppression" campaign against the Shaanxi-Gansu border Soviet area. Together with Liu Zhidan, he led the Red Forty-two Division to nine victories in nine battles and achieved important victories in the struggle against the "encirclement and suppression" campaign. In May, he was appointed head of the cavalry regiment. In February 1935, the CPC Northwest Work Committee and the Northwest Revolutionary Military Committee were established. He served as a member of the Revolutionary Military Committee and took over as the commander of the 42nd Division. In September, after the Long March of the 25th Red Army arrived in northern Shaanxi, it formed the 15th Red Army Corps. The 42nd Division of the 26th Red Army was reorganized into the 78th Division. He was still the division commander and participated in the command of the Fangshan Battle.Contributed to smashing the Kuomintang's large-scale "encirclement and suppression" of the Northwest Soviet Area.

In October 1935, he was detained by the executors of "Left" dogmatism for "elimination of counter-revolutionaries". After the Long March of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China arrived in northern Shaanxi, he was released and entered the Red Army University to study in the same year.The Northwest Revolutionary Army Members Association established the Yellow River Guerrilla Division and served as the chief of staff. In May, the main force of the Eastern Expedition Red Army returned to northern Shaanxi, and the 30th Red Army served as the rear guard. They led two companies to complete the sun attack mission in Sanjiao Town and were surrounded by the enemy. They died heroically on the bank of the Yellow River during the breakout.
