Wang Guowei sank in 1927, a year his daughter Wang Dongming called "the bleakest year" for the king.In fact, the bleakest situation began as early as the second half of 1926. In September, Wang Qianming, Wang Guowei's 28-year-old eldest son, died of illness in Shanghai. This was undoubtedly a heavy blow to Wang Guowei, who had experienced many changes in the world and was in poverty, and made him even more depressed. And things made things worse one after another. In less than a month, his in-law Luo Zhenyu took his daughter away because of a misunderstanding caused by the disharmony between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. Wang Guowei fell into great sorrow and resentment.

Afterwards, because Wang Guowei sent money to Luo Zhenyu as his daughter-in-law's living expenses, Wang Guowei and his mentor Luo Zhenyu had a quarrel. Although they did not turn against each other, they were on the verge of breaking up. Puyi left Beijing and lived in Zhang Yuan in Tianjin.Wang Guowei still pays attention to it all the time, and is always ready to do his best. On February 12, 1927, Wang Guowei made another special trip to Tianjin to celebrate Puyi's birthday. In Wang Guowei's view, the continuous wars have seriously threatened Puyi's safety, so he sincerely hopes that Puyi can move. However, his loyal words could not reach Puyi's ears. Puyi was already surrounded by petites, and he didn't pay much attention to "loyal ministers" like Wang Guowei.Wang Guowei was not only worried about Puyi's safety, but also extremely worried that his loyal words would not be conveyed, and "wept a few times in anger".During this trip, what also made Wang Guowei sad was that he met Luo Zhenyu, but the two did not speak to each other.

After March 1927, the world seemed even more chaotic. The confused sky was overcast with clouds, and there was no ray of light in sight. The teachers and students of Tsinghua Park felt the same way.Wu Mi has repeatedly recorded in his diary. On April 3, 1927, he wrote in his diary: "Recently, the people's hearts are quite eminent. After the political situation changed, the party and army won the capital, and Tsinghua University was disbanded, Mi will no longer be a teacher, nor will he engage in other professions. But he lived in seclusion in the capital, and made a living by selling manuscripts, both in Chinese and English." Diary on April 30: "Chen Yinke visited at night and talked about the cruelty of the Chinese people. I feel that Li Dazhao and others were hanged." Diary on May 2: "Xi, Mr. Wang Jingan came to talk." Diary on May 12: "Wang Jingan came with Chen Yinke." Diary on May 26: "Wang Yinke met Mr. Wang Jingan in the morning."

At this time, Wang Guowei had close contacts with Chen Yinke and Wu Mi, and what they talked about was mainly about the turbulent situation: not only the atrocities committed by Zhang Zuolin who killed Li Dazhao and others by Fengjun in the north, but also the indiscriminate killings of the Kuomintang in the south during the "April 12" massacre. They don't know much about Chiang Kai-shek, Feng Yuxiang, the Kuomintang, the Communist Party, etc., but what they hear is mostly bloody news. They would never be optimistic about the current situation, especially Wang Guowei, who was already very pessimistic.

In April and May, the Kuomintang troops of the Northern Expedition captured Xuzhou, Feng Yuxiang led his troops out of Tongguan, and defeated Feng's army in Henan. Zhilu was in danger, and there was panic in Beijing. Then, there was another news that Ye Dehui and Wang Baoxin, scholars from the two lakes, were killed.Especially Wang Baoxin, even though he was a respected old gentleman in the village, was dragged out just because of the phrase "here is hell" in his correspondence, suffered extreme humiliation, and eventually died.Wang Baoxin is a person who has nostalgia for the old culture, and he was so insulted.Wang Guowei thought to himself that he was a survivor of the Qing court, and the Northern Expeditionary Army came to Beijing, and he didn't know how many insults he would suffer.

The evening issue of Beiping's "World Journal" published "A Parody of People Arrested by the Party Army in Beijing", and Wang Guowei's name was impressively listed on the paper. In late April, Wang Guowei unexpectedly took time out to visit Xishan with his family. This situation was very rare in the past. One day, Wang Guowei returned from Liang Qichao's place and said to his wife: "Liang Qichao asked me to go to Japan for a while, but I haven't considered it yet." At the end of May, Wang Guowei fanned four poems of Qilu for his student Xie Guozhen.Among the four poems, two are poems of falling flowers written by Chen Baochen (who was also Puyi's teacher). In addition to inscribing Chen Baochen's falling flower poems for his students, Wang Guowei also wrote many falling flower poems himself, all of which concealed his ambition to die.
