In 1967, Mrs. Qian Mukai moved to Taipei. After that, they chose to build their own house in Waisungxi, a beautiful place with beautiful mountains and rivers. Ms. Hu Meiqi personally designed and drawn the house drawing. When Mr. Jiang Jingguo heard about this, he had to go to the Yangmingshan Administration Bureau for the blueprint to handle the construction. In the second year, Qian Mu and his wife moved into the new house. Since then, Mr. Qian has lived here for more than 20 years. The reason why he chose to stay in Wai Shuangxi, Qian Mu said, is that he lives near the "National Palace Museum" in Wai Shuangxi Taipei, where he can use the library of the National Palace Museum nearby to see the most abundant and precious rare books in the world.

The name "Sushu Building" comes from the name of the second hall in the former residence of Qian Mu Wuxi Qifang Bridge and the Fifth Generation. The origin of the name of the ancestors is unknown. Qian Mu tried to explain it himself, or derived it from "The Doctrine of the Mean": "If you are poor and humble, you will live in the poor and low; Not complacent." Hu Meiqi pointed out that Qian Mu suffered from typhoid fever when he was young, and he took the wrong medicine. His life was in danger, and it was all thanks to his mother who accompanied him day and night in Sushutang, his former residence, to recover from his illness.

The Sushu Building is not big. When it was built, it was surrounded by a desolate cemetery with overgrown weeds. The property right was owned by the Yangmingshan Administration Bureau. In order to express their respect for the master, the Taiwan authorities handed over the management of the Sushu Building to Qian Mu and his wife free of charge. The house was designed by Hu Meiqi himself. Every brick, stone, plant, and tree in the building was taken care of by the owner for many years. The maple trees on both sides of the trail, the bamboo behind the house, and the four vigorous ancient pines are also famous for Su Shulou. landscape.Qian Mu, who has always advocated Zhu Xi's Neo-Confucianism, has a woodcut statue of Zhu Xi in the Sushu Building. He also wrote couplets of Zhu Xi's words "calming the spirit and nourishing the spirit" and "establishing a unified ambition and reading the books of sages" and posted them in the building.Later, the living room added the red "Shou" character scroll inscribed by Chiang Kai-shek on Qian Mu's 80th birthday in 1974 (Note: "Nine" is not "Ten", which is actually the 79th birthday).

For 18 years since he moved into Sushu Building, Mr. Qian Mu taught at home, and the living room became a classroom.Among Mr. Qian’s students, some have insisted on attending lectures for 18 years, from students to professors, and then brought students to attend lectures. According to seniority, students either sat at the same table with the teacher, or sat in a corner of the hall.Qian Mu spoke Wuxi Mandarin with high spirits and never brought a textbook. The graduate students who are formally taking courses sit at the round table next to Qian Mu as usual, and the observers find their own seats. The lectures are fixed every Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., but the lectures are always started half an hour earlier and ended later, with no empty seats. It has become an important literature and history salon in Taipei.

On Qian Mu’s birthday in 1986, he taught the “last lesson” to his disciples in the Sushu Building, and left a final message: You are Chinese, don’t forget China!Say goodbye to Xingtan from now on.The touching scene of the master giving his last words to the disciples sitting around him has now become a black and white video, forever frozen on the wall of the living room. On June 1, 1990, the 95-year-old Mr. Qian Mu resolutely moved out of Sushulou because Chen Shui-bian, who was then a "legislator", accused him of occupying public property. At that time, the Central Daily published an article saying that Qian Mu moved out of the "Su Shulou" because "the country and society did not respect intellectuals" (in Pei Puxian's words).Later, the Su Shu Building was changed to the Qian Mu Memorial Hall. Mrs. Qian once sighed: "It is better to build a memorial hall for the dead than for the living." On May 22, 1998, Chen Shui-bian, who wanted to run for re-election as mayor of Taipei, ran to the Su Shu Building Visit and claim to say sorry to Mrs. Qian Mu.In this regard, Taiwan's public opinion believes that Chen Shui-bian's intention to say sorry should have been said long ago, why wait for so many years, not to mention that the master has already gone by the yellow crane, so what's the use of saying sorry?
