In 1949, Qian Mu moved to Hong Kong with Huaqiao University. From then on, Qian Mu began to spend the rest of his life alone overseas and cut off from his family. In the courtyard of Qian Mu's Sushu Building, a plant from his hometown is specially planted: Suzhou purple bamboo. Qian Mu chose to leave the mainland in 1949, but he has always had a deep attachment to his homeland. When Qian Mu was 80 years old, he traveled south with his wife and wrote "Eighty Memories of Parents", remembering the upbringing and teaching of his parents and the support and help of his elder brother, revealing his nostalgia and longing for his relatives in mainland China.Later, he wrote the book "Miscellaneous Memories of Teachers and Friends", which gave a comprehensive and plain review of his teacher and friend contacts, the purport of his writings, and his life path.

In his later years, Qian Mu still had a fresh memory of the landscape of his hometown in "Eighty Memories of Parents and Miscellaneous Memories of Teachers and Friends". From 1914 to 1915, Qian Mu went back and forth by boat every week between Meicun and Dangkou towns in Wuxi. The beautiful scenery of Zeguo in the water town not only excited the young Qian Mu, but also made him study more and more diligently: "Yu sat on the bow of the boat and read "Historical Records: Biography of Li Si". You should start by reading this article.” Therefore, Qian Mu must choose a pure and natural place when he reads and writes in the future.

In the past 40 years, Qian Mu and his children have only met four times, namely in 1980, 1981, 1984, and 1988, each time lasting more than a month or as short as a week. The location is Hong Kong. The scene is quite reminiscent of prison visits. In the summer of 1980, accompanied by his wife, Qian Mu went to Hong Kong to meet his three sons (Zhuo, Xing, Xun) and a daughter (Hui) who had been in the mainland after 32 years of separation, and they had a happy week together.Qian Mu blamed himself for not fulfilling his responsibilities to his children, and felt especially guilty for the wronged young daughter because of him.

Unexpectedly, one and a half years after the reunion, the eldest son Qian Zhuo died of lymphoma. After Qian Mu returned to Taiwan, he faced questions about whether he had returned to mainland China to visit relatives. In 1984, when Qian Mu was 90 years old, a birthday celebration was held in Gangmenren. Mr. Qian was able to reunite with his second son, second daughter and grandson (Song) and granddaughter (Wanyue) for a month, enjoying family happiness. On June 1, 1990, Mr. Qian Mu was dissatisfied with Chen Shui-bian, who was then a member of the Legislative Council, and Zhou Bolun, a Taipei city councilor, for accusing him of occupying government buildings. At the age of 96, he resolutely moved out of Su Shulou. In the last three months of his life, the trees in the garden of Su Shulou always lingered in his mind. In the morning, he always looked out the window and asked his wife: "Where is the tree? Why is the big tree gone?"

Suffering from eye disease, Qian Mu was unable to go out when he moved, and he was reluctant to talk and eat too much. His memory was obviously declining. He only hoped that his children could come to Taiwan to get together before his death. But the sky is not what people want, and finally after his ninety-sixth birthday, that is, Qian Mu, who has only moved out of the Sushu Building for three months, returns to Daoshan with his soul. On the morning of August 30, 1990, there was a heavy storm in Taipei. At around 9:00, Qian Mu passed away peacefully at his apartment on Hangzhou South Road in Taipei at the age of 96.He did not go to the heaven imagined by Western Christianity, nor did he go to the other side of Nirvana hoped by Buddhism, but returned to the warm fertile soil of the motherland.

On September 2, Feng Youlan, who was far away in Beijing, sent a telegram of condolence to Qian Mu's home in Taipei. When Qian Mu passed away, Lee Teng-hui went to express his condolences in person as the leader of Taiwan. The family members were scheduled to hold a public memorial service in Taipei on September 26. Unexpectedly, the relatives of the children went to the funeral to cause disturbances.Qian Musheng has three sons and two daughters, but they are all in the mainland. On September 2, 1990, after hearing the news of his father's death, the second son Qian Xing, the third son Qian Xun, the eldest daughter Qian Yi, and the youngest daughter Qian Hui applied to go to Taiwan for the funeral (the eldest son Qian Zhuo died of cancer in the 1980s) , to participate in the public sacrifice held in Taipei on September 26.However, due to cross-strait relations, it was rejected. The Taiwan authorities even threatened Qian Mu's nephew Qian Weichang (vice chairman of the National People's Congress) on the condition of "publicly declaring his separation from the Communist Party".In desperation, Qian's nephew had no choice but to rush to Hong Kong to participate in the public sacrifice held at Hong Kong New Asia College on September 30.

Qian Mu had a will before his death: If one cannot go back (referring to his hometown in the mainland), he must be buried there. In order to fulfill Qian Mu's last wish to return her soul to her hometown, Mrs. Qian Hu Meiqi kept her husband's spiritual bones in Yongming Temple in Taipei, waiting to be buried in the mainland. Qian Mu was born in Wuxi, Jiangsu. After his death, his ashes were sent back to his hometown for burial, fulfilling his last wish of returning to his homeland. In 1991, cross-strait relations finally began to loosen. On January 6, 1992, Hu Meiqi, accompanied by Mr. Xin Yiyun, a disciple of Su Shulou, and Ms. Shao Shiguang (formerly Qian Mu's secretary), escorted the relic from Taipei to Shanghai via Hong Kong, and arrived in Suzhou in the evening.

On January 8, I held a one-day requiem ceremony at Lingyan Mountain Temple. That night, the spiritual bone was transported to Xishan and entered the house. The weather can be sunny or rainy. January 9th is the scheduled burial date.As God wishes, it finally cleared up.The funeral officially began at 11:00 am.The burial object in the tomb is a pack of books.Qian Mu wrote 54 books in his life, with a total of more than 17 million characters. This package of books is 14 selected from these works.Funerals are held in traditional family sacrifice rites. Except for the granddaughter Wanyue, the grandchildren who attended the funeral have never met their grandfather (maternal grandfather).Hu Meiqi specially arranged for Xin Yiyun to tell Qian Mu's personality and academics to the descendants of the Qian family.

So far, Mr. Qian Mu was buried in Yujiadu Shipi Mountain in the west mountain of Taihu Lake. After Qian Mu's death, the 17 million words of "The Complete Works of Mr. Qian Binsi" collected and sorted by Mrs. Qian and two or three people. Fourteen huge volumes, published by Taipei Lianjing Publishing Company from 1994 to 1997.
