Memoirs of Peiqi Gerrard 葛佩琦 1965Words 2018-03-16
Before the Spring Festival in 1949, Peking was liberated peacefully.I was very happy to reunite with my family in Beiping and celebrate the first Spring Festival after liberation.During the Spring Festival, I visited relatives and friends, and saw some old classmates and comrades-in-arms during the "December 9th" period who came back from the old liberated areas. My mood was even happier. These old classmates and comrades-in-arms were very concerned about my political future and asked me to hurry up and restore my organization. In order to solve this problem, I must try to find my one-line contact Zhao Yaobin.

Since our People's Liberation Army destroyed Chiang Kai-shek's main force in the three major battles of Liaoshen, Pingjin, and Huaihai, the situation in Nanjing changed drastically. The Nanjing court "acquitted and released" Li Nian, Wang Shunai, and Xing Guoyan who were detained in Nanjing Prison due to insufficient evidence. In mid-March, the three comrades and Li Nian's lover He Yingfen returned to Peiping safely.I prepared a table of meals to suppress and cleanse them. From their conversations, I learned that in October 1947, underground organizations in Xi'an, Lanzhou, Beiping, Baoding, Chengde, Changchun and other places were destroyed at the same time; 70 or 80 comrades were arrested; Several comrades were shot dead by the enemy!I asked: How is Zhao Yaobin's situation? They said: He has not returned and his circumstances are unknown.

When I was doing underground intelligence work in Shenyang, I had single-line contact with Li Nian at work, and single-line contact with Zhao Yaobin at organizational level.Zhao Yaobin's situation is unknown, how can I get in touch with the organization? !At the beginning of April, by chance, I met Comrade Liu Zijiu who had been separated for nearly 10 years at the All-China Federation of Trade Unions. He is my introduction to the party, and I asked him to connect me with the organization. He said: In order to connect with an organization, one must go through the organization department. He introduced me to the Organization Department of the North China Bureau.

When I went to the North China Bureau, I met Comrade Liu (whose name seemed to be Liu Di) from the Organization Department.I told him about my experience and the reason for the break in the organizational relationship. He said: This is a problem left over from history and should be resolved. He gave me some stationery and some envelopes and asked me to write to someone who could prove my organizational and work ties.I immediately wrote a letter to each of Liu Zijiu, Li Nian, and Xing Guoyan, and handed them over to Comrade Liu.He said: We will transfer your letter to relevant personnel through organizational relations. After a period of time, you can come and see the result. In mid-April, I went to the North China Weekly Organization Department again. Comrade Liu said: According to the investigation materials, it proves that you have joined the party and done underground work; but because your single-line contact Zhao Yaobin cannot be found, the organizational relationship cannot be restored. .I said: Can the North China Bureau arrange a job for me first?Comrade Liu said: We can study it.A few days later, I went to the North China Bureau again.Liu Minzhi said: We have studied your work; although you have been in the party for more than ten years, because you have been doing underground work in the white area for a long time, you are not very familiar with some of the party's principles and policies, so it is difficult to work.We will first introduce you to the Institute of Politics of North China University to study for a period of time. After graduation, we can assign you a job, and Huada can continue to investigate and sort out organizational relations for you.

Introduced by the North China Bureau, I reported to the Huada Institute of Political Science in late April. The research method of this institute is very novel. There are no classrooms, no desks, no lecturers, no large sets of textbooks, no exams, and no scoring. Most of the trainees are professors, associate professors, lecturers and some celebrities from various universities in Beijing. The school gave each student a Maza and a booklet "Outline of the History of Social Development" with only a few dozen pages. The students are free to combine, 10 people in a group, and one is recommended as the team leader. Each group can freely choose the study location on campus, under the shade of trees, beside flower beds, or under grape trellises. The whole group sat in a small horse, gathered together, read the "Outline of the History of Social Development", and discussed it based on their own understanding. From studying at 8:30 in the morning to 11:30 in the morning, we eat together. The school distributed two rough porcelain bowls and a pair of bamboo chopsticks to each student.According to the individual's appetite, the trainees go to prepare meals and vegetables by themselves; they sit on the pony with the meals, and the more they chew, the more delicious they become.Free activities in the afternoon, you can walk the road, visit the market, or go home. There are 400 to 500 students in the whole institute, and there are only more than 10 young instructors who are responsible for the management work. The order is very orderly and there is no chaos.

As time goes by, the situation changes, and the learning content changes. After finishing the "Outline of the History of Social Development", I also studied Lenin's "State and Revolution"; combined with the study of current affairs and politics, I discussed "Acheson's White Paper", "Farewell, Leighton Stuart" and other documents. For me, a Communist Party member who has been engaged in underground work for a long time, I have benefited a lot from studying at the Institute of Political Science at Huada University. In 1949, the first meeting of the National People's Political Consultative Conference (then known as the New Political Consultative Conference) decided to establish the People's Republic of China on October 1.I am very excited! In late September, in order to welcome the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China, our team at the Institute of Political Science at North China University conducted many rehearsals, and I actively participated. On October 1st, our team was designated as a guard of honor and stood in the front row of Tiananmen Square.Tiananmen has been repaired and looks -- new. There are 8 bright red palace lanterns hanging on the city tower, and 8 red flags fluttering in the wind.In the center of the red wall above the city gate, there is a huge portrait of Chairman Mao, and on both sides of the portrait are two banners: Long live the People's Republic of China!Long live the great unity of the peoples of the world!Opposite Tiananmen Square, there is a portrait of Sun Yat-sen in the middle, and portraits of Marx, Engels, Lenin, and Stalin stand on both sides. The whole venue, with red flags waving, is grand and majestic.Chairman Mao and the leading comrades of the Central Committee boarded the Tiananmen Rostrum, and the audience applauded thunderously. The band played the national anthem and everyone stood in silence. The flagpole stands on Tiananmen Square.Chairman Mao pressed the button on the city tower, and the five-star red flag rose slowly.Chairman Mao solemnly declared that the People's Republic of China was established! The Chinese people have stood up!The audience shouted, Long live Chairman Mao!Long live the Communist Party of China!Long live the People's Republic of China! One responds to another, and it lasts for a long time. After Chairman Mao's speech, the teams began to parade and went back to school separately. As the guard of honor, we, teachers and students of North China University, passed the Jinshui Bridge and marched towards Tiananmen Square.Shout warmly: Long live Chairman Mao!Chairman Mao shouted: Long live the people! He walked from the east end of the Tiananmen Gate to the west end, waved to us, and then left.I have the opportunity to participate in the founding ceremony, and I am still honored!
