Chapter 16 Tip 13 Who's That?

Let's say you've taken a hard look at that significant other. From the ends of his curly hair to the toe of his boots, there's no sign of "what's that". If you can't find something to talk about, use the "who's that" trick.Like the active politician, you go to the host of the party and ask, "That man/woman over there looks interesting. Who is he/she?" Then ask the host to introduce you.Don't hold back.It will be nice for the host to know that you are interested in his guests.
This technique is the least used (except by politicians) and most effective ever.Just ask the host to introduce you, or ask enough information to allow you to come up with a topic to break the deadlock.

However, if you don't want to pull the host away from a group of guests, you can still use this trick. This time, no formal introduction is required.Just ask enough information from the master's mouth. For example, learn about the stranger's occupation, interests, hobbies, etc. If the owner says, "Oh, that's Joe Smith. I don't know what he does, but he likes skiing." Ahh!Isn't this the topic of breaking the deadlock? Now you can just walk up to Joe Smith and say, "Hey, you're Joe Smith, right? Susan just told me you're a great skier. Where do you all ski?" Got it.
