原来，在他率领王军霞紧张地备战奥运以及亚特兰大奥运夺金之后，他的家人和他自己都始终不得安宁。他与马俊仁两军对垒期间，情况非常复杂，不知何人所为，接连在两个春节的除夕夜晚，老毛家中都收到了匿名的恐吓信。一次在奥运前，那信扔在大连家门口，诅咒他早些死去，说年关在即，我们这里给你烧纸了；一次在奥运之后，信中恫吓他交出奥运会的奖金，勒索钱财！来信杀气腾腾，惊心动魄。
毛教练凄然诉说：咱家里人口不多，一个老母亲，今年90多岁，一个老伴儿，身体也不好，整天提心吊胆，还有一个女儿。我是家里唯一的男人。女儿结婚了，女婿是远洋轮船上的大副，出海在外常年难回几趟家！
她们在家时常有电话来，说有人出30万要我毛德镇的人头！有一次正是我自己接着了电话，对方又是怪里怪气，气得我对着话筒大吼：我毛德镇的头不值30万！我早就活够了，老子跟你们一块儿死！

情况严重到如此地步，图穷而匕见。一个奥运会的冠军教练，天天带着刀子防身！此事却真实地发生在我的祖国，发生在大连。
我半晌没有吭声，我沉痛。金牌背后竟是这般惨烈这般黑暗这般丑陋！我的心好像挨了这一刀，我想起前辽宁省体委主任阎福君先生的话，说金牌的摇篮也是腐败的摇篮，这话还需补充：金牌的摇篮还是犯罪的摇篮呢！
毛德镇在奥运会之后从北京回到沈阳，那里没有他的地盘，待了不久，即怏怏不快地退居大连家中。大连啤酒厂田径俱乐部邀他到队里帮助训练工作，他本无心重返沙场征战，而几十年训练生活的惯性又使他在家里闲不住，与其躺在家中沉闷着，不如前往“大啤队”协助训练透透空气。去年由他组队代表“大啤”迎战一年一度的大连国际马拉松接力赛，马俊仁亦组队代表大连开发区参赛，另有国内外多支劲旅同场角逐，顿时，狼烟滚滚呼啸大连湾。毛德镇又一次卷入激烈的矛盾冲突之中，正所谓树欲静而风不止，斗争不以人的愿望为转移。就在各队鏖战正烈的当口，事件发生了：毛德镇的一名队员跑完一个单元，气喘吁吁退出公路赛道，突然，一辆白色面包车刮风一般停在这队员身旁，黑道儿掠人便是如此，那车门呼的一声打开，有人在车内急急呼唤：跑完的队员，快上车！这队员从河南来到大连时间短暂，并不明真相，误以为是运动大会接送运动员的专车，并不细问，便纵身跃上。不料想这又是一个血淋淋的阴谋，当这位队员进入车内后还没弄清咋回事，即遭一顿暴打！直打得鼻青脸肿口喷鲜血，遂一脚将其踹到车外……可惜这位河南队员人地两生，并未认清车上谁是谁，那车便轰吼着疾驶离去。健儿无辜遭此痛击。
毛德镇念及此事，复又哀叹老泪纵横：我一生谨慎，不敢乱说一句错话，奥运会回来后我从不乱发言，没想到临退休时招来这么多是是非非，不得安生啊！殴打我的队员，无法无天，这都是冲着我来的！
金牌，金牌，它是那样巨大，高悬在中国体坛的圣火之上，我们凝视它，恍惚间不知其究竟为何怪物。还有那一个个长长方方的锦盒，正面打开，露出丝绒铺衬着的精美元杯，迷蒙间亦不知其为何怪物。慢慢地，我们看清了那装金杯的盒子就是潘多拉盒子呢，一旦打开它，种种魔怪都嘶喊着跑出来了。
一个奥运会上勇夺冠亚军的教练，他负担沉重少有欢乐，他站在辽东半岛海岸上，举目四望，黑势力重重叠叠，竟不知晚年该向何处去。
方才提到阎福君先生对于金牌的“腐败论”，想来读者亦想知他后来的命运。阎福君终日与诗书为伴，喜爱思考，行动上则是一个敢于挑战人生的强者。倘若当年他在体委无求无欲无喜无忧昏昏然当老太爷度日，别的强人就不必那么急切切地驱逐他了。
是强者就会自疗创伤。阎福君凄凉地离开体委后，在辽宁社科院当院长兼党组书记，干得风风火火，一连几年都有著作问世，社科类论文在省内外频频获奖。他的业余生活是写诗与摄影，中国首届艺术节期间，中国摄影家协会与辽宁联合举办了他的个人艺术摄影展，其作品诡谲大气，时常携奖而归。他意味深长地说：“我要科学奖，我要艺术奖，我不要某些可能充满阴谋的金牌奖！不是一个档次的嘛，比方有的人进门是用手开门，有的人偏偏就是用脚开门，嗵，这么一踢，他就进来了，那能一样吗？当然，开门的方式不同也不要紧，大家还要混在同一个社会中。我也快退休了，我考虑的是尽快换一个更好的活法，退休不是退出人生，而是更上一层楼，活得更有质量。”
我问他对于今后的人生安排有何高见。
阎福君在房间里走动，身材高大步履轻松，他以手向脑后抚动乌亮头发，昂扬地说：“我最近出的一本诗集，书名就叫《新生集》，辽宁是老工业基地，'国有'这一块老化了，下岗工人200万，要新生才有饭吃！今后，上层建筑推进改革，党政干部也要下岗，也要新生才有饭吃！新生、再生，凤凰涅槃嘛。我们同中国社科院联合举办了多次老工业基地改造的大型研讨活动，在全国产生积极影响，出版'老工业基地改造'丛书，拿出20多种对策，就是为了新生。我们自己要敢于面对下岗。有的人研究改革十几年，到头来研究者也面对下岗，革命革到自己头上了，就有情绪发牢骚，叶公好龙嘛。叶公不是真改革。改革开放20年，我们都是改革的动力，同时也是改革的对象嘛，思想解放不是一次两次三次的事，而是不断改革不断解放，今后更要解放思想。十五大好哇，我从理论上看到了曙光，非国有经济今后不再叫'补充'，这就给每一个人提供了新生舞台嘛！我60岁，我不老，正成熟正丰富正年轻！国家转轨转制，个人也要转轨转制，我要转到私营民营方面大干一场！从此我用不着天天上组织部汇报思想，人身摆脱了依附性，新生舞台大得很！”他有激情有思考，渐渐兴奋起来，“我可以参与和组建高素质的经济集团，也可能是经济与文化一体化的大集团。过去我们身上五花大绑，一动不能动，有点儿想法也只能在黄牛蹄子的泥水窝窝里转圈子，把人憋死泡死，往后我们必须告别牛蹄坑儿，到大海里去扑腾，去畅游！我至少还能扑腾15年。第一步想法儿，首先我主编一份大报，暂时就叫《东北经济报》，重点为辽宁、吉林、黑龙江和内蒙古四省区经济发展服务，这四个区域的经济特色是相似的，官样文章我一篇儿不要，捧臭脚的文章我一篇儿不登，不实事求是的稿子我拒绝！自负盈亏，围绕报纸发展文化科教事业，作一篇大文章。老赵，你待在北京转悠啥，到咱东北来吧，叫上几个志同道合的好哥们儿，兴邦兴国干一番事业，中国的大东北啊，过去知识分子往深圳跑，弹丸之地嘛，往后就要让你们都往东北跑，重新开发建设大东北！”
Cool!老阎说得激动，连我听着也激动，热血直往脑门上涌。
话题一转说体育，老阎谈锋更健：“中国竞技体育是中华民族在当代最悲壮的一项事业，为啥这样说呢？中国运动员为了祖国的荣誉，他不惜自己的青春，董存瑞舍身炸碉堡嘛！他们为国家拼杀完之后，不具备文化知识和其他技能，再也找不到人生的出路，青春短暂壮烈牺牲！旧的体育体制必须改革，要科学要人性。当初我调到体委，开始是生疏的，但是我很快爱上了这一行，体育改革很快成了我生活中的兴奋点，我感到这是对我人生价值又一次考验。辽宁是个体育大省，我想为整个中国体育改革提供探索和试验，辽宁可以率先走向世界。”
“体坛王气在辽宁呀！”我插话。
“对啊，中国的改革开放，许多进步方案是来自下面推动的产物，是事物发展的必然产物，改革说到底是给逼的，不改不行了。往往是下面先干起来，上面有一个争论，然后再追认的过程。追认和完善之后，反过来指导全国的改革实践，摸着石头过河嘛。很可惜我的试验没有展开，就夭折了！指望从上到下搞改革是幼稚的幻想，处江湖之远，看得更清楚些。我对于当今中国体育有三个担忧，一忧运动员的命运，他们应是民族文化的重要组成部分，一个大民族，要关心我们的运动员，不能让社会当包袱甩出去，要让他们健全地发展，将来好做人好吃饭。二忧竞技体育事业不要成为中国发展的超重负担，打几块金牌，国家投入太大，动不动多少个亿，畸形超前发展竞技体育，畸形奥运战略，体育界自身光输血不造血，不符合国情地盲目追求高指标，搞'人有多大胆地有多大产'，狂妄自大嘛！国家经济上负担不起。要重在全民健康，不断改造和发展我们人种的体质，最终到世界上打金牌，成为我们全民族综合指标的高级体现。第三个担忧，就是担忧我们的所谓体育头头们要犯严重的错误，兴奋剂的泛滥成为体育界腐败的集中表现，这是历史性的错误，不走正道走邪道，忘记了中华民族五千年文明史，以摧残人性的办法，换来自己头上的虚假光环！欺上瞒下，满世界被查禁，到处给党中央第三代领导集体丢人，给中华民族丢人！影响了中国从政治经济文化全方位走向世界的信誉，还影响人民币的国际信誉！最近游泳队在国际大赛上又被查出一批人，这是第二次了，没有接受教训，人家说我们是政府行为，只要你国家体委是政府官办的，就无法洗刷掉，全世界的媒体都这样报，全世界的电脑联网全输进去了，这个责任谁来负？所以我说体育界不要犯历史性的错误，摧残人性的坏事要停下来！”
阎福君归纳说：三个担忧的唯一解决办法，就是体育界要自身改革，治标不治本，肯定不能行。马家军也不会长久，适应不了新形势。
老阎依旧写诗、搞摄影，新作不断。其诗集中有寄给民族英豪张学良将军七律诗一首，十分悲壮忧患，也是他自我心声的真实写照：
老阎在辽宁省文化部门任职期间，曾为张学良将军晚年重返故乡多方奔走效力，故有此诗相寄。灯下赏析，叫人荡气回肠。
几年前阎福君先生悲切切离开体委后，省内同情者众，不久即被增补为省人民代表大会常务委员。又因多有著述，被评为有突出贡献专家，享受国务院特殊津贴。我此次东北之行，辽宁正值省人大换届刚刚结束，阎福君再度被选为省人大常委，任职五年。
他将迈着更坚实的脚步，去迎接退休后的新生。
人世沧桑，风云莫测。使我不忍叙述的是，崔大林先生仍在他的位置上忍受着折磨。金牌指标的压力可能摧残运动员，同样可能损害体育界的各级首脑。崔大林被人称为辽宁体坛“掌门人”，而近来一连几年辽宁体育界“王气”黯淡，战绩不佳。人们过分地推崇金牌信奉冠军，总以成败论英雄，大林就少不得备受指摘，煎熬日甚。先是国内十年足球霸主辽宁队，突然在某一日被踢出了甲A阵容，辽宁球迷心理上几近崩溃，无论如何难以接受这一严酷现实。此后连续两年滞留降级后的甲B，任凭媒介宰割无力翻身。据说沈阳球迷兼下岗职工多次到省体育学院闹事，毫不留情，矛头直指掌门人，这在辽宁各界实在不是小事。驱逐阎福君一事也被人们一再提起，大林后来虽然取阎而代之，终于当了省体委一把手，实际在口碑上失分不少，好像他成了一个搞政治运动的行家里手，驱阎运动得不偿失。马家军兵变大连队伍解体举国忧虑，又是一个对崔不利的话题，尽管拼全力保住了队伍，所憾人们对马俊仁的看法褒贬不一争议太大，不能不影响到对崔大林的评议。在人们看来，崔大林与马俊仁委实难以分割开，是一档子事，荣辱与共。间接地讲，马家军受挫，大林作为体委领导确有责任，城门失火殃及池鱼。马俊仁的对立面客观上成为崔大林的对立面，一加一等于二，翻了一番，何堪重负？最近一个对崔不利的因素，是上海八运会，虽有上海人占尽天时地利人和的严峻客观现实，虽有马俊仁率全军殊死冲击的夺金大战，辽宁还是丢掉了上届全运会体坛霸主的崇高地位，屈居上海之后。在金牌总数与上海差异不大的情况下，崔大林总算保住了省体委主任这个职位，他十分感叹地对我说：“金牌不应是评价一个人的最佳标准，但是目前人们还拿不出别的可以量化的标准。假如这次八运会我的指挥稍不慎，如果我们在几个项目上稍有失误，那没办法，我这个体委主任就当不成喽。”言语间颇有劫后余生的感觉。

老马深知“八运”决战的意义，他只许成功不许失败，以往训练中能用的招数他全部使了出来，对曲云霞、姜波等人毫不留情，对全体年轻教练毫不客气，谁训练质量稍有懈怠，照骂不停，照打不误，而且打得还挺狠，哪个不老实也不行。打姜波最厉害的一次是在高原期间，把老马的大拇指关节都顶得差点儿脱了臼，好长一段时间红肿疼痛，足见用力过猛。今日中国田径界，秘密武器层出不穷，一到全运会，许多想不到的怪招儿、恶招儿都会冒出来，众所周知的体坛弊端也会急剧升温。老马必须正视这个惨烈的现实。金牌在这里可以直接等量于各省的资金、职务、职称、住房，所有的教练和队员都会杀红了眼，六亲不认。
因此，马俊仁必须采取种种措施种种对策，来迎接这一切。
果然，在八运会的最后阶段，也就是1997年10月下旬，辽宁军团所获金牌总数距离上海军团尚有相当距离，上海人正待弹冠相庆。战前，在各项预选赛当中，崔大林、马俊仁采取了麻痹对手的战术，各项成绩都要求刚刚进入决赛即可，不要暴露实力。而中长跑的几大项目历来是大型运动会的压轴戏，一进入决赛，马家军队员突然像是充足了电的新人，骤然间在上海滩头掀起狂风巨澜，马家军鼓动起来，不夺金牌誓不还。
上海人忘记了一点，马家军历来是以创造惊人新闻著称于世的，君不见，几天后，马俊仁即被《新民晚报》封了一个新头衔——新闻学博士。
10月18日这一天又是晴空万里，让人想起了四年前北京七运会的辉煌时光。上海人一看老马乘坐的考斯特面包车，格外显眼，车身上打满了花花绿绿的广告，说明马俊仁仍然与市场经济有着紧密的联系。再一看那车的牌照，又让上海人大吃一惊：辽B—88888！这要花多少钱才能买到这五个“8”？须知此类豪华型的号码牌在许多城市是要经过拍卖的。老马喜欢这一套，在他看来豪华车牌即是车主身份和实力的象征。他高兴地对我说：“现在咱又发展了，机动车好几辆，都要挂上好牌子。我上大连交警大队去办车牌手续，这五个'8'人家没二话就照顾我了，剩下几台车的牌号都不如这个好，人家说老马外头挑不出来了，干脆你进库房，全在这儿了，由你选，任你挑！好啊，我就挑，三个'6'不错，四个'9'也不错，最后拍拍手我挑不出来了，人家说，支持你马家军。俺们一分钱不要。”我听了他的话，也跟着笑了，善良的人们期盼着老马的胜利。
马俊仁登上体育场看台，青岛双星集团老总汪海先生紧随老马，特制了两块写有奖金80万元的大广告牌子，打算在比赛胜利后当镜头对准老马时，由老马高高举起，可谓临场广告宣传一大创新。
下午3点40分，女子1500米决赛开始。马家军多名选手站在起跑线上。上海人似已预感到前几名的奖牌十有八九要收到辽宁账下，而他们比以往任何时候都更关注能否打破世界纪录，因为不仅得奖牌可以缩短上海与辽宁的差距，而且大会规定破世界纪录也将按得一块金牌计数；一旦马家军好几个人都齐破纪录，几天之后辽宁就会超越对手，上海即将前功尽弃。
枪声响处，老将曲云霞立显凶狠顽强本色，冲在最前头，老将刘东也代表辽宁出战，小将姜波等人同场疾奔，煞是好看。全队势头强劲，狂飙陡卷，直冲世界纪录。最后一圈时，高高的计时表显示二分五十秒整，这意味着打破纪录就在眼前。这项纪录当初是由曲云霞、王军霞在北京七运会上双双打破，由曲云霞保持至今的。突然，迅跑中的曲云霞重重地跌了一跤！观众震惊，老马唰的一下从座位站起身来。中跑比赛最怕摔跤，特别是选手拉不开距离裹成一团时，尤要当心。这时姜波已经一鼓作气进入冲刺，距终点只剩150米时，她发现老大姐曲云霞不在身边，匆忙间回头一看，冲刺速度明显缓了一下。rushed!三分五十秒九八！创当年世界最佳成绩，距曲云霞的世界纪录三分五十秒四六仅差零点五二，着实让场内场外观众和电视机前观众震动遗憾了一番。比赛结果，前八名中有七人是辽宁选手。老马后来肯定地说：如果曲云霞不摔跤，姜波不回头一瞅，这项纪录铁破！
辽宁团队与上海人的差距正在缩小。
看台上，老马按照此前的协议，高高地举起了双星集团奖金80万元的广告牌。那位做鞋的老总汪海认为，这法子最具轰动效应，出血80万元还是值得。
此后，马家军大破5000米世界纪录，辽宁军团总指挥崔大林脸上浮现了笑意。
男子3000米障碍赛，多年来就是辽宁孙日鹏称雄。这一回他又跟
