合该老马走背运，合该他到了行将倒霉的时候。正在这危急关头，鞍山方面偏偏出了大事：马俊仁的老父亲病危住院，几次昏迷又被挽救复生，老人临终弥留之际，稍一清醒就呼唤老三俊仁何在，马俊仁的兄弟姐妹一日三遍长途电话打给马俊仁，催促他赶紧返回鞍山，一者可望得见老人最后一面，二者也该和几个弟兄坐下来，共商老人善后大事。老马知情以后，着急上火，身心不安。老父病危，刻不容缓，大连这厢天塌下来也顾不上了。他来不及摸清队里危机四伏的思想情况，匆匆驾车沿沈大高速公路北上奔赴鞍山而去。鞍山离大连200余公里，老马这一走就是两三天，且不能及时赶回大连。他一直到老父亲病情缓解短期内有所控制，才又风风火火回到大连基地。
这两三天的空当使基地的姑娘们得到了从容商议大事的机会。身在大连的刘东这些天没事儿时也来基地玩耍，她给人的印象是更年轻更洒脱了。
刘东虽然没有参与策划集体辞职，但她的到来其实也就是一个生动的范例：
马俊仁没什么了不起！自由是多么宝贵啊！刘东活得挺好的，我们也可以奔向自由！她们做出一个关于全队的动态分析：曲云霞虽不能积极参与集体辞职的策划，但她愿意随大流；王军霞则是第一首领，坚决不打算再跟马俊仁干下去；张林丽、刘丽、吕欧、张丽荣这几大主力是中坚力量，与王军霞的思考完全一致；吕亿、王媛、王小霞、马宁宁和董艳梅，属于第二集团，因而成为集体辞职的同盟军；剩下的姜波、崔颖、尹莉、胡滨、白雨等几位小队员，又是一个集团，但入队时间很短，自然也不会有什么准主意，眼见得马家军大势将去，定会尾随大师姐们行动，反正不管跟谁干、在哪里干都是差不多，师姐都要走了，我们还留下来干啥？——你看，整个基地找不出一个反对辞职的人，找不出一个留恋马导的人。集体辞职的多种方案都有所议及。有一条办法终于确定下来，就是要写一个集体辞职书，然后每个人签名，交出去就算大伙儿的。
在基地的四楼上，有两间住人较多的大宿舍，这是新老队员们每天的聚集地点或称会议室。大家总是在这两间屋子里向王军霞发问：军霞姐，咱们啥时候行动啊？怎么还不走啊？姐走时候可别忘了叫上俺啊！尤为滑稽的是，有队员提出这样的问题：姐啊，俺这两天做梦，梦见好多梅花鹿住在一个黑洞洞的山洞里，突然山洪暴发，就把个山洞给淹了，那水啊可大了，最后把大山顶也淹平啦！姐啊，咱还得多算几卦，这次金州的那个算命先生怎么说？是吧，他也说这基地要黄啦？没说具体是啥时候？过不了今年？这就对上号了，非黄不可了！——长期的迷信教育，得出了迷信的果实。这一层，又是老马无论如何始料不及的。——现在的问题是马导手中尚拿着好几块霍英东奖励给队员的纯金大金牌和亚运会上由健力宝公司奖励给队员的纯金钥匙，纯金奖牌每块值人民币十几万，纯金钥匙每把也值三四万元，这些东西当然不能留给马导。集体辞职就是个时间问题了。
马俊仁上了趟鞍山，总退却的意念更加坚定。他在同半农半工的鞍山亲友们商谈自己的前程时，绝大多数亲友劝其见好就收，没有谁劝他把天大的苦头继续吃下去，根本没有这个必要嘛！待马俊仁一回到大连基地，他的情绪由于老父病重而变得更加烦躁，接连在队员中无端地大发雷霆，从早到晚他总是骂骂咧咧不停口。渐渐地，他就把自己总退却的思路全盘暴露给队员们了。他实在不是一个城府很深的人。这几天他公开嚷嚷的话就是：闹吧！整吧！你们这帮人能整住我马俊仁？我去休养看病，我拍屁股走了，看你们跟谁闹去？你们今后的日子长着呢，你们不靠我，我还不想管呢，你们想靠谁靠谁去，谁能给你们办了后边的事情你们找谁去，咱们看谁能整住谁，我反正是不管了！
老马的用意很简单，他想让队员们因为退路艰难而对他有所依赖而重新靠拢他。金牌、档案、户口，一切关系都在他手里，他没有估计到全体队员都会背水一战离他而去，会集体炒他的鱿鱼！她们不靠教练不靠我老马还能靠谁去？难道她们不替自己的未来着想吗？难道她们不考虑退役后的分配吗？大权在我马俊仁手中！想想中国社会，谁会轻易惹翻单位的一把手？谁又会惹翻本系统内的最高权威人士？在每一个单位和机关里，为了那点儿蝇头小利给一把手当宦官当傻儿子的人有的是，唯上唯官是千年不变的传统。我有权，还怕了哪个没权的不成？哪有老子怕儿子的？哪有县官怕百姓的？哪有大人物怕小毛孩儿的？哪有船儿怕水的？——其实，凡是这样去处理问题的当权者，最后没有一个不与众人离心离德的，没有一个老来不吃大亏的，结局往往十分悲惨。权力固然响当当，而人心不是更有力吗？人道不是更持久吗？权力要说重要也重要，要说脆弱也很脆弱。
掌权时候竟不知道丢权也在转眼顷刻间，到头来，方醒悟，压根儿从来没把任何人的心制住，却连过去的宦官儿子们也会翻了狗脸骂起家长来。
人身依附那一套玩意儿几千年都管用，没想到现如今在市场经济时代变得不太灵便了。也许这正是从经济体制改革向政治体制改革无情转化的一种必然。
众怒易犯而专权难成。马俊仁没有认识到他权力的危机才是马家军根本的危机，最大的危机。眼下他再用权力话语吓唬这帮久经沙场的老队员们，显然不会再起什么作用，只能证明过去的强者今天是脆弱的，力量也用到头了。所谓冲风之衰，势不能起毛羽；强弩之末，力不能穿鲁缟。队员们一任老马训斥责骂，心中却不会生出少许转变之意，反而更加增长了对老马挥戈一击的怨恨。你越是要甩了我们躲开去，我们越不让你轻松如愿！你整了我们这么多年，我们也会最后整你一下子！老马适得其反的训话效果又是他所想不到的。最后的战火就要燃起。老马现在是一个真正的弱者，而对手却是一大群同仇敌忾的世界冠军，力量对比其实是很悬殊的。

这基地装足了满楼的炸药，就差一根导火索了。
正在全队怨恨冲天的当口，1994年12月10日至11日，老马自己点燃了刺刺作响的导火索。这两天，老马频频在办公室给沈阳打长途电话，他高声大嗓语出惊人；并不在意队员们的动态和情绪，他对着话筒大声嚷嚷：好啊，就这么定了吧，星期二你们把新教练刘琦送大连来，我等着，我把队伍正式给他交代一下，我就离队住院，星期二是几号？哦，12号？
好啊，打12号往后，队里再有啥事儿我就都不管啦，一切问题由刘琦负责！对，我治病嘛，现在队里可是没出任何问题啊，我交代给刘琦以后，出啥乱子与我没关系！喊出龙叫来，我也管不着了，谁带队谁负责嘛，与我马俊仁有啥关系？刘琦当教练他爱咋整就咋整，今后这帮小崽儿闹出人命来也与我马俊仁无关！
马俊仁的电话被老队员们听到，立即在全队引起了很大的震动，反响非常强烈。她们共同生发了一种长期受害最后又一次被欺辱被抛弃的感觉。
老队员们直接的反应是：马导他把俺们当牛当马当赚钱机器使唤了这么多年，他捞够了他干不下去了，到头来把责任和后事往别人身上一推，他得计了！俺们无路可走，俺们成了世上最悲苦的一群弱女孩，横竖是绝路一条，长短将被人抛弃，与其躺倒等死，不如拼杀一场，拼个鸟兽散，拼个鱼死网破都别干，或能拼出一线生机。要让马俊仁把队伍散伙的责任担起来！就让咱们两厢都不那么舒服吧！新教练刚上任，我们跟人家说不清道不明，凭什么让人家负责任？这个责任只能让马导担，你想担也得担，不想担也得担，你越不想担俺们偏要你担，世上的便宜事让你占尽，最后还连累一个新教练，岂有此理？电话之后，马俊仁即在公开场合宣布了星期二即12月12日离队的决定，同时宣布将在星期一即这天晚上把手中的金牌和金钥匙发给个人——他认为这是最后一个晚上，你们就是想翻什么大波浪也来不及了。我只要拖过这一晚，只要次日上午崔大林、孙玉森和新教练一到，任何责任都与我马俊仁没有干系。
what to do?事情分明到了最后的关头。队员们连日来酝酿的集体辞职之议迅即变成了现实。她们后来对我回忆说：“既然马导决定发金牌，那么俺们收回金牌就可以出发，连夜也要离开这个基地，再晚也要走，绝不等到明天！马导把发金牌拖延到最后两天，就以为可保平安无事，他错了嘛！”——在这个紧要万分的时刻，老队员们反而异常镇定，她们突然发现自己成熟了，长大了，什么都不害怕了。虽然她们仅仅拥有一个白天的时间，但她们却把一切准备工作办理得那样有条有理，不慌不忙。全队表现出了空前的团结和严密的组织纪律性。在四楼的大宿舍里，以王军霞、张林丽、刘丽、张丽荣等人为代表的几个老队员形成全队领导核心，紧急制订了当天的行动方案。她们决定在严格保密前提下火速完成如下几件事——这些事情必须在当晚发金牌以前的这个白天之内全部做完，各人的分工也很详尽周密。
她们做出了这么几项决定：第一，文件问题。由王军霞等几位老队员牵头，尽快起草一份集体辞职报告，要简短，因基地无法复印，可抄录一式五份，分头找全体队员在五份报告上签名，然后由四位老队员每人永久保存一份，以示同盟，另交马俊仁一份。
第二，交通工具问题。由张林丽侧重负责。可在白天伺机外出，亲自给时刻焦虑着的鞍山男友打通电话取得联系，紧急调用面包车一辆，迅即开赴大连，务必于晚饭后到达基地楼外，隐蔽等候。待马俊仁晚间离开基地返别墅后，根据楼内暗号驶近楼区，里应外合，暗号照旧。当晚把所有队员行李物品装车后拉走，即返鞍山。卸货地点为鞍钢某宿舍区王媛父母家中。王媛则应在白天电话通知家人做好接应准备，或写信交人随车带走——不拉走铺盖卷，不算兵变。
第三，人员去向问题。当夜把行李拉往鞍山以后，人员暂时不可溃散，不得擅自行动，应集结在基地外不远处某宾馆等待天亮。待崔大林、孙玉森等人次日上午到达基地后，应按召唤统一返回基地，向崔、孙等领导正式反映马俊仁的问题，提出退役要求，争取领导的支持和谅解，决策下一步行动。为此，应提前派人到开发区雅居宾馆找熟人安排集体过夜的房间，不得延误。如领导一时不能解决问题，今后一段时间内，部分队员可回乡自理，剩下的骨干队员则在鞍山某队员家中暂居一时。
第四，辞职程序问题。应在金牌发完之后进行，但不要对马导一拥而上乱吵乱说，防止激化矛盾发生意外冲突。应选择平日与马导相处较平和的一名老队员首先单独进入办公室，正常提出辞呈。同马导保持谈得下去，其余队员再逐步加入谈判，这样马导不至于拂袖而去。通过谈判尚有一线希望最后争取马导承认错误回心转意。首先进入谈判的老队员则选平时温良恭俭又总是微笑着的张林丽为宜，王军霞可带领其他队员在门外走廊内等候，掌握事态进程，相机而入。
第五，新闻发布问题。应做好记者及言论方面的充分准备，防止舆论偏袒某方，但不一定过早组织发布。有关队员可就近给大连市内某报记者打好招呼，预先说明简略情况，使记者先期介入，以便事后需要时公之于世。正好这些日子刘东时常跟大家有来往，那位常常跟随刘东的记者还是不错的。大家对刘东可以信赖，自然也可以信赖刘东的记者。但不得把具体行动方案事先告知记者，事后再详谈不迟。为历史存照起见，同时为防范马导出尔反尔说了话不承认将来把水搅浑，应在谈判中安排专人把对话内容暗中录音以备后用。此项使命可交给王媛、吕亿、马宁宁等谈判时说话较少的队员做准备并具体完成操作。
第六，撤离及善后问题。为保证夜间行动迅捷利落，每位队员应在晚饭前把行李物品全部捆扎完毕。各人的行李要做好记号便于搬运。每间宿舍主人要认真打扫一遍卫生，保证公物不受损害，防止马导事后借题发挥。
各人的往来书信及日记本录音带要一律收拾干净，不给马导留下任何把柄痕迹……
这是多么繁忙多么不寻常的一天啊！
人心啊人心，温暖人心留住人心太难太难，寒冷人心驱散人心却是太容易。如此周详的准备工作，动作这么大，涉及人这么多，老马却一丁点儿都不知道，没有一个人向他透露一丝风声，没有一个人向他揭发告密。
谁都知道队里今晚将有大行动，就他马导一个人蒙在鼓中。就连曲云霞和她的家人也不会不知道这一切，偏偏大伙儿啥都不乱说！可叹一个功勋卓著的教练员，在自己的运动队里孤立到这个份儿上，在多年的弟子当中威信降低至如此地步！
我在同几位老队员的采访中表示了我另外一层忧思。我十分矛盾十分艰涩地说：当时你们心里对马指导有气，我可以理解，马指导这个人有缺点有毛病，搁谁身上也难免。可是我想说，你们是否还应该看到大局？国家好不容易培养了你们，你们是国家的宝贵财富，咱国家的田径事业百年来是落后的，能够发展到今天真不容易真艰难，大伙儿这么一散一跑，直接受损失的当然是马指导，也很可能会是你们自己，而受损失更大的却是咱们国家，是中国的田径事业！在爱国家爱体育这一点上，你们应该是一致的吧，不管怎么说，马指导是一位具有爱国主义精神的做出过很大贡献的中国人，咱们这样对付他，是不是狭隘了一点？残酷了一点？你们都是爱国的，祖国的利益应该高于咱们个人的利益呢！
我的话刚说完，自己就觉得主题提得高了一些。我担心她们也许会受不了。不料，她们马上给予回答反驳，看来队员们对这个严肃的爱国主义命题是有充分思想准备的。她们很断然地说：马导并不是一个真正的爱国主义者！赵老师和许多善良的人一样，太相信马导的报告，太相信他的话了。他平时总是把爱国呀爱国挂在嘴上，动不动就骂老外，什么小日本啦大鼻子啦胖肚子啦卷毛黄毛的，动不动就说要给中国人争气什么的，还好讲什么馋死不抽外国烟，饿死不吃外国饭，词儿可多啦，其实这不过是他拉拢人心的一个手段，是一整套宣传上的说法，因为他一提爱国中国人就特容易激动，就更支持他。他要真爱国不爱钱，他就不会把队伍硬拉到大连，也不会首先自己打退堂鼓，其实啥都是为了他自个儿！——我本来想阻止她们说下去，我担心她们年龄还小容易偏激，她们却越说越镇定。一位平时话语不多的老队员举出例子来很有分量，这位老队员说：马导主观上就是为了个人出人头地，客观上他也给国家争过光。可是别的教练打国际比赛一出成绩，他就老大不高兴，常常气得上火大骂出口，谁出成绩他骂谁，真要爱国他就不该这样了。马导就是要他自己一个人出名，压别人。
俺们干这行本来就是吃青春饭的，谁都想早点为国家出大力自己也成大名，可是马导他个人稍不顺心，许多有利于国家的事情就办不成。那是上届奥运会之后吧，国家体委组队打世界锦标赛，当时安排出国教练人选中没有马导，只有他的队员，马导跟国家体委三司当时的司长有意见，又争取不上名额，就坚持不让队员出阵。田径世界锦标赛特别，规定除了美国单独派队，欧洲可以出两个队以外，其他各大洲只能派出一个队，还规定每个项目只能派出一个人比赛，参加一次世界锦标赛是很不简单的。这次打世界锦标赛本来国家组队定的有刘丽，还让刘丽当队长，主项是800米，中国只能选一名最好的队员出场，想派俩都不行。当时国内就数刘丽成绩好，完全可以为国争光，马导一看自己去不成，就跟国家体委说刘丽有伤，根本去不了，去了也跑不好啥的，反正说成啥也不让刘丽代表咱国家去打世界锦标赛。这事儿国家体委三司和田径处的老师们都清楚。就这样刘丽没去成，后来一看，那次世界锦标赛800米冠军的成绩很一般，刘丽如果出场的话，和冠亚军完全有一拼，结果都让外国人把金牌银牌夺走了。私下里，刘丽为失去这次宝贵的机会不知道痛哭过多少回，中国人也失去了一次在世界锦标赛上拼搏女子800米的好时机。赵老师你看，马导他心中有祖国的利益吗？刘丽失去这次机会以后，继续忍着肝病苦练了两年，田径世界锦标赛挺怪，是隔开奥运会两年打一次，到了去年吧，又轮到世界锦标赛的年头了，同时还有好几个大型的马拉松比赛，俺们和刘丽都憋足了劲儿要到国际赛场上拼一场，唉，就在这时候，马导他跟省体委主任阎福君正闹意见，闹辞职，他跟国家体委跟省委跟记者们都说了，只要阎福君不下台，我就哪儿也不去，队员也不准调用，谁来说也不行！这样，俺们好多队员好多项目包括刘丽的800米，又一次失去了在世界大赛上为国争光的机会，刘丽又哭啊，俺们只好自认倒霉吧！祖国培养了俺们，却多次失去报效祖国的机会，只是因为马导个人的因素，总跟国家的利益发生冲突。俺们才真正是非常痛心非常倒霉的。后来俺们跑出来，又是马导自己先打了退堂鼓，运动员成了他私有财产，还谈得上啥的祖国利益高于一切？
这样的例子多着呢！
唉，我一时无语，她们的体会比我要深得多，我不知道该说些什么好。
爱国主义是个神圣的命题，要把这种神圣转化为每个人生活中的具体行动，实在不那么简单。马俊仁无疑有过爱国主义行为，特别是在各种因素包括各种利益相一致的时候，这种行为曾经相当明朗显著。但是在利益不相一致的时候呢……现在，即1994年12月11日的白天，马家军大连兵变的事态急速发展，姑娘们按计划进行着各自的行动。几位老队员很快拟就了那个辞职报告：
马导：我们大家都已经苦练了这么多年，马家军也已经名利双收。在现在这种形势下，您的身体
