Chapter 134 Li Tiande's Grumpy Fate

Anti-Rightists 叶永烈 3261Words 2018-03-14
The big "Rightists" suffered a lot, and the little "Rightists" were even more unfortunate. The author once made a special trip from Shanghai to Ya'an, Sichuan, to interview Li Tiande, a little "rightist" with a bad fate. Li Tiande was branded as a "rightist", but only nineteen years old, a sophomore in college. He was later labeled a "counter-revolutionary" and even sentenced to death! He caught my attention, but it was a short message on the overseas edition of People's Daily: According to our newspaper, an intellectual named Li Tiande in the Ya'an area of Sichuan wrote a ten-thousand-word letter to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council in 1975. The core of "Offering a National Policy" is to completely negate the "Cultural Revolution"... At that time, Li Tiande was labeled as an active counter-revolutionary by the "Gang of Four" and sentenced to death for writing this ten-thousand-word book.Later, the Ya'an District Intermediate People's Court changed his sentence to 20 years in prison, and he was not rehabilitated until after the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

When I came to Ya'an, I met Yang Zhengquan, the chief judge of the Second Criminal Tribunal at the Intermediate People's Court. He showed me a "counter-revolutionary" case file, in which "Offering National Policy" was stored. What is written with a pen cannot be chopped off with an axe.On a warm and bright spring day, reading the Wanyan book written in the cold night like a lamp, my heart is full of respect for the author. He was ahead of his time. Many of his profound insights were not necessarily accepted by people even after breaking free from the imprisonment of the "Gang of Four" from 1978 to 1979. The author of "Presenting the National Policy" has a sharp eye for politics.

The correct characters are written on twenty-two pages of 500-character grid paper. The front page reads "Contribute to the National Policy - To the Standing Committee of the 'National People's Congress' of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China". "Presenting a National Policy" pointed directly at the "Cultural Revolution" that was "very good, it was good".He pointed out: Regarding the Cultural Revolution, I think it is completely unnecessary, and the disadvantages greatly outweigh the advantages. (A) Many of our cadres have been persecuted by Lin Biao and others.

(B) Our people have been fooled like never before, instigated by villains to fight each other like enemies. (C) Let Lin Biao and other villains, big and small, take advantage of it.Little villains engage in beating, smashing, robbing, copying, arresting, raping, and burning; big villains engage in conspiracy, usurping the party, seizing power, and engaging in fascism.A green light for all vendettas and personal revenge. (D) The national economy has suffered unprecedented damage since the founding of the People's Republic of China, second only to "natural disasters" in a few years.Of course, it is impossible for the central government to know the real number of national industrial and agricultural output value during the "Cultural Revolution".

(E) In terms of spirituality and morality, because of Lin Biao's mysticism, religious superstition, and totalitarian worship, people have become dishonest, hypocritical, and treacherous... He also traced back from the "Cultural Revolution" to the expansion of the "Three Red Flags" and the "Anti-Rightist Movement", denouncing all kinds of "Left" actions; "About the three red flags, although some people strongly affirm it, I want to deny it...the people's commune is a 'communist' style, great destruction, utopian fanaticism...layers of cadres falsified, lied about their achievements, and deceived their superiors and inferiors...the first stage of the Great Leap Forward In two years (1959) all industrial and agricultural products decreased, and by 1960 they became extremely scarce...Peng Dehuai's opinion is correct and correct."

"The college student rightists are all acquitted. Those who have unique and progressive views on governing the country can serve as state cadres." His sharp writing touches on the personal superstitions that people at that time kept taboo, requiring a correct evaluation of Mao Zedong's merits and demerits, and pointedly pointing out Mao Zedong's serious mistakes in his later years. He suggested abolishing the life tenure of cadres, and clearly stated that "the chairman of the Central Committee shall not serve consecutively for 20 years", and "the prime minister, the chairman of the 'National People's Congress' and various ministries and commissions shall not serve more than 15 years."He believes that "by doing so, (not only) avoiding the formation of personal autocracy and sectarian groups, but also creating more national leaders, so that more outstanding people among the people have the opportunity to manage national affairs."

In his book of ten thousand words, he proposed national policies in twelve aspects. In the same case file, I read the "Summary of the Trial of the Current Counter-revolutionary Li Tiande Case" issued by the Ya'an District Intermediate People's Court on February 24, 1976, ten years ago, and my heart tightened suddenly. "Li Zuo Tiande was sentenced twice for counter-revolutionary crimes. He didn't want to repent, fled to the capital openly, and carried out counter-revolutionary activities frantically. He is really a counter-revolutionary who committed heinous crimes, refused to mend his ways after repeated admonitions, and was a determined counter-revolutionary. It is recommended that Li Zuo Tiande be sentenced to death and executed immediately."

The monster is turned upside down, the pearl is secretly cast, and the revolutionary Li Tiande is almost put on the guillotine as a "counter-revolutionary".Nine deaths, survived the catastrophe, I finally found Li Tiande who is still alive... A thin middle-aged man of medium build, wearing an old blue police uniform, came towards me.He is Li Tiande. He looks ordinary, except that the wrinkles around his eyes and mouth make him look a little older than forty-seven years old. "My youth was spent behind bars." He said with a long sigh: "In 1958, when I was only nineteen years old, I was mistakenly classified as a 'rightist'. I was arrested and imprisoned that year. Since then , in the long twenty years, my identity has been a 'prisoner', 'counter-revolutionary', 'incumbent member'. It was not until February 17, 1979 that I was removed from the status of 'counter-revolutionary' hat, but still left me with a 'politically wrong' tail. On the National Day of 1981, I was forty-two years old, and I got married and had a small family. When Yanyan was born, I Already forty-three years old. If I hadn't smashed the 'Gang of Four', if I hadn't been cared for by the leading comrades of the Party Central Committee, I would still be in prison today. Although my life has been rough, even after the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Party, there are still people Punish me, but I have never wavered in my belief in the party. I survived the long days in prison because of my firm belief in the party..."

In 1939, Li Tiande was born in Lizi Township, Rong County, Sichuan. His father, Li Fohai, made a living by dyeing cloth. He was only two years old, and his father was killed by a Japanese plane. His mother was illiterate and died when he was eleven.Relying on the care of his eldest brother, he struggled to finish elementary school and middle school. He joined the team at the age of twelve and joined the league at the age of fifteen. After graduating from high school, he worked as a middle school substitute teacher for a year, and finally wore the Chongqing University badge in September 1956. Although he studied metallurgy, he loves literature. He served as the deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the Department of Student Union, wrote poems, and acted as Chen Gong in the Peking Opera "Catch and Release Cao"...He, along the road of "Red Scarf-Communist Youth League-Bolsheviks".The heroes he yearns for are Zoya, Matrossov, Qiu Shaoyun, Huang Jiguang, and Wu Yunduo. He read Lenin's "Materialism and Empirio-Criticism" and Stalin's "On Dialectical Materialism and Historical Materialism"... He was one of the pure and progressive college students in the 1950s.

However, in March 1958, many shocking slogans were posted on his desk and in his dormitory: "Warning, cunning fox Li Tiande!" "Anti-Party member Li Tiande must bow his head and plead guilty!" "... He was labeled as a "rightist", retained his student status, and was inspected through labor.I found the following words from a rehabilitative document issued by the Central Office of the CCP’s Chongqing University on February 14, 1979: "During the Anti-Rightist Movement in 1957, Li Tiande raised opinions on the anti-rightist struggle of individual classes at that time, and wrote three big-character posters and some poems. The "Six Criteria for Classifying Rightists" in 1957 was not a rightist statement. The original designation of Li Tiande as a rightist backbone was a mistake and should be corrected and his political reputation restored." However, when this rehabilitative document was sent to Li Tiande , he has entered the age of 40!

Misfortunes never come singly. On December 15, 1958, Li Tiande, who was sent to labor in the Nantong mining area in Chongqing, was struggling to carry iron ore.Suddenly, he was called to a meeting on the playground. The Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau sent people to attend the meeting and publicly announced the arrest of four key members of the small counter-revolutionary clique. As soon as Li Tiande heard his name being read, his hands were handcuffed behind the back with cold handcuffs.Since then, handcuffs and shackles have become commonplace. On March 17, 1959, he was sentenced to five years in prison. The crime is quite terrible - "attempt to sneak across the border"!It turned out that after he was sentenced as a "rightist", he worked with several "rightist" students. One of the "rightist" students from Yunnan said that his hometown has fertile land and a warm climate, and that everyone might as well go there to make a living, at least it is more free than "supervising labor".Unexpectedly, planning to go to Yunnan was said to be "a vain attempt to sneak across the border" and labeled as a "counter-revolutionary clique". The icy life in adversity did not make his fiery heart cold.Other prisoners feel that the time in prison is extremely long, and the days are like years, and there is nowhere to spend the endless time; but he deeply feels that time flies like an arrow, and every second is gone forever.During the day, he gave mechanical drawing lessons to prisoners, designed jigs for making small trains, and worked on crafts; at night, he spent his time studying hard.He read "Selected Works of Mao Zedong", read "Das Kapital", repeatedly studied "Infantile Diseases of the "Left" in the Communist Movement... He also read Hegel, Aristotle, Feuerbach, etc. , Kant, Nietzsche and other philosophical masterpieces, and wrote hundreds of thousands of words of reading notes. On December 15, 1963, Li Tiande finally served his sentence. However, he still wears the hat of "counter-revolutionary" on his head, and stays in the factory to control employment. At the end of 1965, he wrote a drama script in five acts and nine scenes, "War in Peace", and posted it to two magazines, "People's Literature" and "Script".The script is based on the "May 7th Incident" in Chongqing University that he personally experienced. On July 24, 1967, the Sichuan Shimian County People's Court sentenced him to six years in prison. The verdict reads: "Li Zuotiande used the name of writing scripts to wantonly spread reactionary speeches of rightists attacking the party, slandering and attacking the party's various policies, slandering the 'five evils' and 'suppressing counter-revolutionaries' for messing up, and trying to restore the counter-revolution... " In court, Li Tiande remained calm and composed.Because he has long been accustomed to such "big criticism" phrases, he firmly believes that truth is by no means the son of power. "The strength of a moment depends on strength, and the victory and defeat of a thousand years depends on reason!" In this way, in 1975, he wrote "Presenting the National Policy"... Li Tiande is a little "rightist" who has suffered a lot. However, it was during the years of suffering that the sword of his mind became sharper and sharper. His injustice was finally vindicated when the rain passed and the sky cleared. In November 1984, Li Tiande joined the Communist Party of China.
