Chapter 16 6. Can you clean the medical equipment?

In China in the 1980s, a "disposable" revolution began in the medical and health circles.People bid farewell to the centuries-old old-style syringes and infusion sets, and disposable medical devices proudly come to the hospital. Many people think that in the future, there is no need to worry about cross-infection or bacterial transmission of viruses, and medical staff no longer have to bend over for daily "washing and cooking".But in fact, we have made another mistake of taking it for granted: no matter how advanced technology is, it cannot resist dirty souls. After the large-scale use of disposable medical devices in our country, a puzzling thing happened in a large hospital in Beijing: In just one week, dozens of patients in several wards suddenly developed a high fever after infusion, and couldn't stop Shiver. This is obviously an infusion reaction caused by infusion, because unqualified infusion sets flowed into the hospital.

In April 1996, dozens of patients with skin ulcers suddenly appeared in Changde City, Hunan Province. The oldest of these patients was 55 years old, and the youngest was only 5 years old. Some of them have been on the operating table five times due to the treatment of ulcers, some almost died, and some left sequelae. The hospital investigated and found that the patients had problems after using a batch of disposable sterile syringes with the name of a certain factory.According to the identification of the authoritative department, this is a batch of recycled and reused syringes, which come from the waste baskets of some hospitals in Jiangxi.Qiu Lin, an unscrupulous businessman in Jiangxi, sold these recycled syringes to Changde City, and the people who received these syringes got a kickback from it.

According to the "Sichuan Daily" report, the Sichuan Technical Supervision Bureau is in Chengdu, Ziyang, Neijiang, Zigong, Yibin, Luzhou, Suining, Nanchong, Guang'an, Dachuan, Deyang, Mianyang, Guangyuan, Meishan, Leshan, Ya'an and other 16 cities, Locally, 149 batches of disposable infusion sets and sterile syringes used in 88 hospitals were inspected for quality supervision. The results show that there are a large number of low-quality disposable infusion sets and syringes, and the situation of using them for patients is very serious. From the spot check results, only 64 batches of products were qualified, accounting for 43% of the total spot check batches.Among them, there are 21 hospitals with qualified quality of both products, accounting for only 23.9% of the total number of random-checked hospitals.

The report of "Harbin Daily" is even more shocking: the qualification rate of disposable infusion sets in the Shenyang pharmaceutical market is zero. In December 1998, the Technical Supervision Bureau of Liaoning Province and the Medical Administration Bureau inspected nine brands of disposable infusion sets in the pharmaceutical market located in the South Wuma Road area of Shenyang City. Degree, air filter caliber to dropper length, flow regulator, none of them are qualified. On December 28, inspectors again seized 181 infusion sets of several brands with a total of more than 90,000 pieces.

Disposable infusion set is a labor-intensive product with simple process and easy to counterfeit.According to data, the cost of each disposable infusion set assembled at home is only 0.27 yuan. If it is assembled with self-produced parts, the cost is even lower, while the average purchase price of the hospital is 0.6 to 0.8 yuan.In this way, qualified products have small profits, while illegal products can be expected to reach 200% profit. After the country promotes the use of disposable infusion sets, infusion sets are widely used in various places, including modern large-scale enterprises, and more individual workshops without production and operation licenses. They bought needles and infusion tubes by patchwork, and assembled disposable infusion products and syringes in front of and behind the house, by the bedside stove, on the dining table, and in the washbasin. They are then stuffed into purchased or counterfeit bags, assembled in batches in primitive ways, and shipped to cities.Their output reaches 50 million pieces a year, and the total annual output of disposable infusion sets in the country is about 600 million pieces, accounting for 8%.A total of 43,000 counterfeit and unlicensed infusion sets were found in Qing'an County, Heilongjiang.

Some criminals simply recycle disposable infusion sets and syringes for reuse.According to the "Chinese Business Times" report: "Many disposable syringes are recycled and concentrated by those fixed waste collectors. They are re-contaminated during the stacking, and they are poured into the sink for washing and rewashing, so that a large amount of residue is entrained in the needle tube. After dirty Dirty hands are sorted, dried, packed into counterfeit bags, and flowed to the market again." On September 12, 1991, a freight train traveling from Xi'an to Jiangxi stopped in Changsha. In Changsha in early autumn, the weather has cooled down a lot. However, the station staff found that a batch of goods on the truck was surrounded by swarms of flies.People wondered, could it be some criminal murder? So the police officers rushed to the scene. When the sack was opened, people were speechless for a moment—it was not just because the sack smelled so bad that they couldn’t open their mouths, but because people saw that the sack was full of disposable syringes and infusion sets for people with dirty blood. .According to the investigation, some unscrupulous people planned to transport these things back to wash, make superficial articles, package them and sell them to the hospital for reuse.

What better way to make money than a syringe that comes from a junk dealer? A few days ago, Xia Wei from the People’s Hospital of Jiangbei District, Chongqing revealed the surprising problem of disposable syringes in the medical market: “I use about 20 sets of needles every day, and I often find traces of use after unsealing. There was a yellowish liquid in the sealed bag, the needle tip was old and blunt, the needle tube had worn marks, there was precipitated drug dirt in the needle cover, and even the remaining mud layer, gravel, rags, cotton yarn, etc. in the needle tube. I I have seen with my own eyes the buttocks that were red and swollen after the injection, and the pus was drained by surgery, and the farmer who spent thousands of yuan on treatment, trembling after the infusion, the disease increased, and the infectious diseases for no reason were also on the rise.”

Disposable infusion sets and sterile syringes have been widely used in hospitals and clinics. These products are directly used for human intravenous or intramuscular injection, and their quality is directly related to the health and even life safety of patients. How come these syringes from the garbage dump don't scare us?
