Chapter 2 Chapter 1. Lucy Peeps into the Closet

Once upon a time there were four children whose names were Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. The following stories are what they experienced firsthand. It was during the war, and they were sent away from London to the home of an old professor in order to avoid air raids. The old professor's home was in the middle of England, ten miles from the nearest railway station, and two miles from the nearest post office. He had no wife, and lived in a very large house with Mrs. Macready, the housekeeper, and three other servants (named Ivy, Margaret, and Betty, but they don't appear much in this story). The professor is old, with unkempt white hair. The kids fell in love with him from the moment he arrived. But Lucy, the youngest, was a little frightened by his strange appearance when he came out of the gate to meet them the evening before, while Edmund (who was the youngest besides Lucy) could not help Wanting to laugh, he had no choice but to pretend to wipe his nose again and again, so he didn't laugh out loud.

On the first night they said good night to the old professor and went upstairs together, and the two boys came to the girl's bedroom and began to talk to each other. "We're lucky indeed," said Peter. "It's a great place to do what we like, and the old gentleman doesn't mind us." "I think he's a lovely old man," said Susan. "Oh, don't gossip!" said Edmund, who was already very tired, but pretended not to be tired, and at such times he often lost his temper. "Stop talking about that!" "What should I say?" Susan replied to him, "You should go to sleep."

"You've taught me what my mother did," said Edmund. "Who are you? You don't care what time I sleep! Go to bed yourself." "Everyone sleeps, won't you?" Lucy interceded. "If people hear us talking here, they'll have to scold us." "Not at all," said Peter. "Didn't I say that nobody would bother us in the old professor's house? Besides, they wouldn't hear us. From here down to the dining room, there were so many Stairs and aisles, about ten minutes' walk." "What noise?" Lucy asked suddenly. The house was much bigger than any she had ever lived in before, and the thought of the long hallways and rows of doors leading to empty rooms gave her a little creepy goosebumps. .

"It's a bird, silly fellow," said Edmund. "That's the hooting of an owl," said Peter. "It's the best place for birds of all kinds. I'm going to sleep. Say, let's go exploring tomorrow. You might want anything in a place like this." It can be found. On the way here, did you see those mountains? And those woods? There may be eagles, deer, and eagles there." "Are there any badgers?" asked Lucy. "And snakes!" said Edmund. "And the fox too!!" said Susan. But the next morning, it started to rain coldly. It was raining heavily, and looking out of the window you could see neither hills nor woods, not even the brook in the garden.

"It can't be helped, it's probably going to rain again, and we'll have to resign ourselves to it," said Edmund. As soon as they had breakfast with the professor, they went upstairs to the room the professor had arranged for them.It was a long, narrow room with two windows at each end to look out. "Don't whine, Ed," Susan said. "Maybe it'll clear up in an hour or so. Even now, there's not nothing to do. There's a radio, and lots of books." "I don't care for these things," said Peter. "I'm going to explore the house."

Everyone agrees with Peter's suggestion, and that's how an adventure begins. You never seem to come to the end of this house, which is full of unexpected places. They first tried to open a few doors, which turned out to be empty, unoccupied rooms, as everyone had expected.Next, they entered a very narrow room, the walls were covered with paintings, and they also found a pair of armor in the room. Then they went into another room, which was full of green decorations, except for a harp in the corner. After this they went up two flights of stairs, one up and one up, to a small hall with a door leading out onto a balcony. After coming out of the small hall, they walked into a series of connected rooms, which were filled with books, most of which were very old, and some of them were bigger than the "Bible" in the church. They stayed here for a while, and then walked into another empty room to look around, and saw a large wardrobe with a mirror on the door. There was nothing but a faded blue vase on the windowsill.

"What's the point of that?" said Peter.Everyone followed, except Lucy who stayed behind. She wanted to see if she could get the big wardrobe open, although she was almost sure the door was locked. She didn't even expect that the door of the cupboard was opened so easily, and two mothballs rolled out of it. She took a closer look into the closet, and there were several coats hanging side by side, almost all of which were long leather coats.Lucy was delighted that the clothes were soft to the touch and smelled of mothballs. She stepped into the closet, squeezed into the middle of the fur coat, and rubbed her little face against the furry fur coat.Of course she left the door open because she knew it would be very foolish to shut oneself in a wardrobe. She moved inside and found that there was still a row of clothes hanging behind the first row of clothes, and it was dark inside. She stretched her hands forward, for fear that her face would touch the back wall of the cabinet. She took another step forward, then two, then three, trying to touch the wooden cabinet wall with her fingertips, but she couldn't.

"What a big wardrobe!" Lucy thought to herself, walking on.From time to time, she pushed aside the overlapping soft leather clothes to make way for herself. At this moment, she felt something creaking and creaking under her feet. "Did I step on a mothball?" she thought, squatting down to touch it with her hands. However, what she touched was not the hard and smooth wooden cabinet bottom, but something soft, powdery, and cold. "How strange?" she said, taking a step or two forward. She soon discovered that what touched her face and hands was no longer soft fur, but something hard and rough that even poked her hands a bit. "Oh, it looks like a branch!" Lucy exclaimed. At this time, she saw a light in front of her.The back wall of the closet should have been inches away, but the lamp seemed far away.Something light and cold fell on her. After a while, she found herself standing in the woods late at night, snowflakes were falling from the sky, and there was snow under her feet.

Lucy was a little scared, but curious and excited at the same time. She looked back, and through the dark gap between tree trunks, she could still see the open cupboard door, and even a glimpse of the empty room from which she had entered. (Of course, she left the door open, because she knew it would be very stupid to shut herself in a wardrobe). It still seemed to be daytime there. "If anything happens, I can go back," thought Lucy. She continued to walk forward, "creaking", "creaking", stepping on the snow, through the woods, and walked towards the lamp. After walking for about ten minutes, she arrived there, and it turned out that it was a lamp post.Just as she was staring at the lamppost, wondering why there was a lamppost in the woods, and thinking about what to do next, she suddenly heard a burst of "slap" and "slap" footsteps. Not long after, a strange-looking person came out of the woods and came all the way to the lamp post.

This person is only a little taller than Lucy, holding an umbrella on his head, which is covered with snow and white. His upper body looks like a human, but his legs are like a goat, with black hair on them; he has no feet, but has goat's hooves. He also has a tail, but Lucy doesn't see it at first.Because he was afraid of dragging it in the snow and getting dirty, he put it in the crook of the arm holding the umbrella.A red woolen scarf was wrapped around his neck, and his red face was a bit strange, but attractive. He has a short, pointed beard, curly hair, and two horns on each side of his forehead. He held an umbrella in one hand and several brown paper parcels in the other. He looks like he just got back from shopping for Christmas. It turned out that he was Fonne, the ancient Roman god of agriculture and animal husbandry. When he found Lucy, he was so shocked that all the paper bags in his hand fell on the snow.

"Oh my god!" the sheep monster exclaimed.
