Chapter 1 Preface to the Chinese version

Double Forensic III 杰夫·林赛 1386Words 2018-03-21
As the saying goes, there are no strangers in the world, only friends who have never met. That's how I think about China, not because you have more people than us.I'm sure I'll like you all, even more so if you invite me to dinner. And I really think our two countries have a lot in common, for example, we both like Jackie Chan and Yao Ming.So even though I can only say "Happy New Year" in Chinese, I still want to take this opportunity to say a few words to all Chinese friends who have never met. Let me talk about Dexter first. You must understand that he is just a character in a novel and absolutely has nothing to do with what I have done.I have never, never committed any official crimes, so legally you have to believe that Dexter is pure fiction, and you have to remember that I was never in trouble. Also, if I did do what Dexter did, I must have told someone else, at least my accountant, because research for a book is tax deductible under US income tax laws of.

So, Dexter is not real, he is not me.But of course I believe that there are a lot of real serial killers out there, and I also believe that there are probably a few really good, very smart guys among them who, like Dexter, never got caught. So, you must lock the door at night.Of course, if Dexter does come, you give him a delicious Cuban sandwich and he won't bother you anymore. Maybe China doesn't have Cuban sandwiches. That's too bad because they're really good, and it's not fair that Cuba has great Chinese food and China doesn't have Cuban food.If I were in China, I would move a few Cuban cooks there. Most of them are great musicians and dancers who can add color to your nightlife, especially if you like to dance mambo. My apologies if there are already mambo bands in China.

It's not just the Cuban sandwich that has made Dexter a favorite.I think there are people all over the world who like Dexter because he doesn't see himself as a human being. He observes us like an outsider, makes us see ourselves more clearly, and laughs a few times at his own stupid behavior. He did us a valuable social service by killing those who deserved to be killed. That's another reason people love Dexter.Readers from all over the world love the idea that when the justice system fails, there are people who can punish the bad guys and bring justice to the good guys. It's a bit like being surrounded by friends at school, the big bad students don't dare to bully you anymore.Of course, if you're a Shaolin monk, like in a Jackie Chan movie, you don't have these problems, but there aren't many monks, especially in a place like Miami.

So we have Dexter.I'd rather say I got my inspiration for Dexter from watching Kung Fu movies, which might allow me to sell more books to Chinese readers.I wish I could say that. However, this is not true. The inspiration for writing Dexter came from a room full of businessmen.I watched them cheating on each other, saying "Nice to meet you, long time to see you", chattering while filling your mouth with food.My upbringing taught me that this habit is really bad. They are like a bunch of happy devils. That's when it hit me that maybe having a serial killer wasn't always a bad thing.

It was such a simple idea that led me to write the first book "Double-Faced Forensic Medicine".Today, five years later, four novels with Dexter as the protagonist have been published in thirty-eight languages around the world. There is also the TV series "Dexter", which has brought me more friends who have never met before.Dexter was a success, and it came at a good time, because I have a kid who is going to college, which is very expensive. What's more, it's yet another proof that people around the world are much more alike than we sometimes think. It's important to remember this in today's world.

So even though the birth of Dexter has nothing to do with kung fu movies, I hope you enjoy reading these books. If you really like it, you should buy many more copies for your friends. If you don't like it, buy lots of copies and give them to your enemies.Anyway, it's your responsibility, because we're friends now.
