Lu Chengjia Lu Cheng's family name is Jianhou, and he was born in Dongwei Society, Penghu.Less intelligent, good at playing the qin and zither.屡试不售，遂绝意功名，置一斋，啸卧其中，图书花鸟，呼酒谈棋，翛然自适。晚年尤耽吟咏，通判吴性诚时与倡和，别后犹寄诗问讯，积成卷帙。素敦内行，兄弟数人，白首相处，怡怡如也。子侄皆业儒。卒年七十有一。 蔡廷兰 蔡廷兰字香祖，号秋园，澎湖双头乡人。父培华字明新，以笃学设教里，里中人称之。廷兰少慧好学，年十三入泮，嗣食饩。道光十一年，风灾，粒米不艺。汀漳龙道周凯自厦来振，廷兰作《急振歌》上之，一见倾心。既而督学台、澎，遂膺首选，充十七年拔贡。二十四年成进士，出为郏江知县，澎之科第自兹始。后为江西知府，有政声，卒于任。初，廷兰秋赋，遭风至越南，越人礼之，送归。著《越南纪程》、《炎荒纪略》二书，后余乃得其诗集，长短凡百十有五篇。 魏宏 魏宏台湾府治西定坊人。学问淹博，文才甚捷，而远于事情，世以书痴目之。故其为文辄自圈点，应试亦然，恒被黜。道光二十七年，南通徐宗幹任台湾道，兼提督学政，奖掖文学，遇才士尤礼待，月试海东书院，宏屡冠其曹。值夏热，伏案读书，每苦其辫，即断之。已而院试，家人虑被斥，以假辫缝帽里，令带之。宏入场危坐，及试题下，振笔直书。时五月盛暑，汗涔涔滴衣上，即弃其帽，诸生见而大哗。宗幹适出视，至宏前，取文观之。宏曰：“我文甚佳，公识之否？”宗幹点首，又指其发而诘之。曰：“吾以发为累，已剃去，公留此不更苦耶？”宗幹默然，而诸生环笑不止，邀之入内。文成，宗幹大喜，置第一。翌年科试，复第一，补廩膳生。当是时，海道艰危，台人士之应乡闱者，须于小暑前内渡，过此恒遭不测，往来既艰，费又重，以故老师宿儒多不赴。省中人轻之，至加侮蔑，谓诸生为台湾■，以其无黄也。宏闻之大愤，诣学院，请与省中人角优劣。许之，即赴凤池书院月课。学使观其文，推为压卷，然虑损省中士面目，抑为第二，奖之甚厚。一时省中士无不骇异，遂不复敢轻台人，以是文名大噪。或谓宏曰：“吾子此举，压倒多士，固荣于领乡荐者。”宏欣然应曰：“吾非好与省中士争胜负，亦聊以泄台人之愤尔。今幸不耻辱，则领乡荐复何用？”遂买舟归，以岁贡终。是时有方春锦，亦府治人，与宏齐名。 彭培桂 彭培桂字逊兰，泉之同安人。少随父来台，居于淡水槺榔庄。咸丰六年，以罩恩贡成均，设教于乡，及门多俊士，竹堑巨室争聘之。著有《竹里馆诗文集》。子廷选亦能文，道光二十九年拔贡，朝考一等，请降教谕。巡道徐宗幹赏之，曾选其文刊于《瀛洲校士录》。著《傍榕小筑诗文稿》，未刊，今皆散失。 陈维英 陈维英字迂谷，淡水大隆同庄人。少入泮，博览群书，与伯兄维藻有名庠序间。性友爱，敦内行。咸丰初元，举孝廉方正。九年，复举于乡。嗣任闽县教谕，多所振剔，闽县有节孝祠久圮，捐俸重建。已而工部尚书廖鸿荃告归，闻之造谒，维英辞。鸿荃请入见，长揖欲跪，维英愕眙不知所措。鸿荃曰：“公新节孝祠，惠及闾里，吾当为亲谢。”盖其母亦祀祠中也。秩满，捐内阁中书，分部学习。归籍后，掌教仰山、海学两书院。同治元年，戴潮春之役，淡北震动，与绅士合办团练，以功赏戴花翎。晚年筑室于剑潭之畔，曰太古巢。著《乡党质疑偷闲集》，未刊。时府治有黄本渊，亦以是年举孝廉方正，以善书闻，余曾求其事迹，而不可得。 吴子光 吴子光字芸阁，广东嘉应人。年十二，毕大小经，始学科举文，数试不售，乃渡台，寄籍淡水。兵备道徐宗幹见其文，颇相期许。同治元年，举于乡，遂游搢绅间。同知陈培桂议修厅志，聘任笔述，嗣馆三角仔庄吕氏家。吕氏为彰化望族，家富好客，藏书多。子光雅爱古人，又嗜阿芙蓉，拥书读，自以为乐。顾为人愤懑，胸中磊块，时流露笔墨间。名其文曰《一肚皮集》，谓采朝云戏东坡之语，吕氏为刊行，附《小草拾遗》一卷。又著《三长赘笔》、《经余杂录》，稿存吕氏。然其文驳杂，反不若考据之佳。光绪初年卒，吕氏以师礼葬之。 陈肇兴 陈肇兴字伯康，彰化人。少入邑庠，涉猎文史。彰邑初建，诗学未兴，士之出入庠序者，多习制艺，博科名。道光季年，高鸿飞以翰林知县事，聘廖春波主讲白沙书院，始以诗古文辞课士。鸿飞亦时莅讲席，为言四始六义之教，间及唐、宋、明、清诗体。一时风气所靡，彰人士竞为吟咏，而肇兴与曾惟精、蔡德芳、陈捷魁、廖景瀛等尤杰出。咸丰八年，举于乡。所居曰古香楼，读书咏歌以为乐。戴潮春之变，城陷，肇兴走武西堡牛牾岭，谋纠义旅，援官军，几频于险。集集为内山要隘，民番杂处，俗强悍，不读书。肇兴窜身其间，激以义，闻者感动。夜则秉烛赋诗，追悼阵没，语多凄怆，题曰《咄咄吟》。事平，归家，设教于里，及门之士多成材。著《陶村诗稿》六卷，《咄咄吟》二卷，合刻于世。 黄敬 黄敬字景寅，淡水干豆庄人。干豆或作关渡，故学者称关渡先生。少孤，母潘氏守节，性纯孝，勤苦读书。安溪举人卢春选来北设教，敬事之，授《周易》。咸丰四年岁贡生，嗣授福清县学教谕，以母老辞，假庄中天后宫为社塾，先后肄业者数百人。当是时，港仔墘曹敬亦聚徒讲学，皆以教行为本，游其门者多达材，人称为二敬，北台文学因之日兴。敬为人谨饬，一言一动，载之日记，至老不倦。束修所入，悉以购书。或劝其置田，曰：“吾以此遗子孙，胜于良畴十甲也。”著《易经义类存编》二卷，《易义总论》、《古今占法》各一卷，《观潮斋诗》一卷，未刊。其序《易》曰：“易因卜筮而设，圣人欲人于事，审可否，定从违，察吉凶，以谨趋避，特为假借之辞，聊示会通之意。故体则兼该靡尽，用则泛应不穷。无论人为何人，尊卑贵贱皆可就此以占，事为何事，大小轻重皆可依此以断，岂一二义类所得泥而拘乎？唯其为书广大精微，扩而充之，义多浩渺，研而究之，义又奥幽。前圣之言，非必故为诡秘，以待后人深求。《易》本悬空著象，悬象著占，道皆虚而莫据，辞易混而难明。欲为初学者讲，不就其义以整其类。则说愈繁而旨益晦。譬如登山，仰止徒叹其高，莫得寻其径路；譬如入海，望洋徒惊其阔，莫得觅其津涯。执经习焉不察，开卷茫乎若迷。将《易》所以教人卜筮，欲启之以明，反贻之以昧，欲命之以决，反滋之以疑，日言《易》而《易》不可言矣。夫《易》之数本于天也，天非以人为验，无以知天。《易》之辞凭乎理也，理非以事为征，无以见理。兹编之所解者，悉遵本义，主乎象占，以卜筮还之。而于各卦之义，各爻之义，复采古来人事相类者与为证明。或系前人，或由己见，皆敬小窗闲坐所读，苦无端倪，欲以课虚责实，庶几得所持守，志而不忘耳。卷帙既成，不忍恝然废弃，爰颜之曰《义类存编》，以示子弟侄辈，俾之便习此经，因以兼通诸史，不无稍有裨益。虽所引著，其事未必与其义适符，而望影藉响，以为比类参观，亦足知类通达。况由是触类以引而伸，充类以至于尽，推类以概其余。党义虽举一二人之类，可作千万人想，义虽举一二事之类，可作千万事观。化而裁之，推而行之，神而明之，何致拘泥鲜通，不能兼该泛应，有负于《易》为卜筮之书也哉！” 吴鸿业 吴鸿业字希周，淡水艋舺人。博览群书，工琴，精秦、汉篆刻，颜其居曰拜石山房。敦行寡言，言皆雅趣。顾善画，尝绘百蝶图，设色传神，栩栩欲活。一时名士如台湾黄本渊、淡水郑用锡、陈维英辈，皆为题咏，凡二十余人。淡水同知云南李嗣业为之弁首，而鸿业亦自序曰：“少读唐人诗，至王右丞宫词，初不解滕王蛱蝶图，如何拓得。一日春花烂发，隐几沈吟，瞥见隔篱敲拍，栩栩然来，促笔起而摹之，须眉间隐然欲动，一声呼绝，为蒙师惊斥，颇败兴，不果成。迨成童后，尤有嗜画之癖，凡山水人物花卉禽虫，见一名笔，以购致之而后快，地之远近，价之廉昂，弗恤也。然徒为好事者借作粉本，于余结习所喜，终未得其一班。今春与黄友阅芥子园所详蝶诀，亦自信前辈之不余欺。独怪天地间，一种活色生香，自然意趣，如待按图而索，为足以画其形神，穷其变幻，则使
