New Theory of National History 钱穆 1107Words 2018-03-20
When a country is in turmoil and changes, its past history will inevitably generate infinite power in the dark, inducing its future and regulating its trend. This is an inevitable example of human history itself.Otherwise, history will not become a kind of knowledge, and human beings will not have historical evolution at all.In the past hundred years, China has entered the most turbulent and transformative stage ever. Unfortunately, during this period, Chinese people's understanding of past history is extremely poor and vague. The author is not self-confident, and always hopes to discuss the truth of old history in response to the needs of the new era, hoping to trace the source of all current domestic problems and examine them more realistically.Sleeping and feeding historical books, dozens of cold and heat, and three new histories: a general history, which gives a general description of the general political and social historical facts.1. Cultural history, promotion and comprehensive observation of various aspects of historical life.A history of thought, this is the last and most important driving force guiding the progress of history. The first part first became a kind of "Outline of National History" (commercial publishing), the second part was continued into a kind of "Introduction to Chinese Cultural History" (Zhongzhong Publishing), and the third part was published in Kunming four or five years ago. The second is a speech, but it has not been compiled into a draft. There is also "Politics and Science Private Words" (commercial publishing), which is also played in the first and second parts. All the essays and special books over the years have also focused on these three parts and elaborated on the topic.More importantly, based on past historical facts, pursue objectively with a calm mind, and never distort the facts for the convenience of a certain movement or force at a time, and accommodate the present. In this way, academics can be independent, and knowledge can have real value and utility.

It's a difficult time for Artemisia, and I am urged by friends to continue to write one. In general, it is still the same as the previous ones. However, the purpose is to be popular, and the meaning is to be comprehensive. Due to space limitations, the language is unclear. It has already been elucidated in the previous several, and it can be avoided if it can be avoided, and it can be omitted if it can be omitted.Readers can write a new article on this, and have a glimpse of the previous structure, so that they can better understand the basis of their argument. In short, seeking to discover the truth of ancient history, it has both connection and separation with the modern trend of thought of the Chinese people, which is not taken into account.

To diagnose a disease, you must inquire about the source of the disease, and to build a house, you must first visit the cemetery. The past 4,000 years of Chinese history must be the most important data for judging the sickness of China in the past century, and the only undeniable and most solid foundation for building a new China in the future. At this level, you must first seek the approval of the people of the country, and then you can read my book, without any painful reproaches and ulterior motives. As for the authenticity of the language, everything is factual, and the history is vast, covering bandits and changes. I still pray that readers will forgive their negligence and help them fail to catch it.Following this path, there will be a day when Chinese history will see the light again, and the resumption of the national fortune will also depend on this. This is the case for the outline of its purpose before it is published.

This book temporarily collects five papers, the first "Chinese Social Evolution", and the second "Chinese Traditional Politics", which were completed in 1950.The third article "Chinese Intellectuals" was completed in 1951.The fourth part, "The Examination System in Chinese History", is the draft of a speech given in Taipei in the winter of that year. The fifth chapter, "The Evolution of Chinese Culture," is a speech I gave in the wartime capital Chongqing in the winter of 1941. It is the general outline of my book "Introduction to the History of Chinese Culture," which is attached here together. The first three articles were published in "Democracy Review" and printed separately as "China Issues Series", and the fourth article was published in the first issue of "Kao Quan Monthly".This is a compilation of separate lines, and I would like to express my thanks to the Minping Society.Readers of this book, if they can refer to the author's old works "Introduction to Chinese Cultural History" and "Politics Private Words", as well as the subsequent "Chinese Historical Spirit" and other books, will be able to understand the author's theoretical basis, and Where the intention lies.
