Chapter 23 Section 6 The Place Names of Shuangfu Guo County Appeared in the Northern Dynasties

During the Southern and Northern Dynasties, while abusing prefectures and prestige, they also strengthened the management and rule of the capital, important cities and their surrounding areas, which was mainly manifested in the emergence of Shuangfu Guo County. In Chinese history, since the implementation of the system of prefectures and counties, there have been cities where prefectures and counties are governed together. As mentioned earlier, such cities generally use the names of the first-level administrative districts as their place names, and counties attached to prefectures, counties, roads, and prefectural cities are named Fuguo County.By analogy, there are two or three counties attached to the first-level political districts and cities, and these counties are called Shuangfuguo County or Sanfuguo County respectively. The earliest Shuangfu Guo County in my country was formed after the Northern Qi Dynasty analyzed Jinyang County and established Longshan County, and both attached to Taiyuan County. After relocation and renaming, Taiyuan County and Jinyang County were attached to Taiyuan County in Sui Kaihuangzhong, and Jinyang County was abolished in the early Northern Song Dynasty, and Taiyuan County was still Fuguo County.Chang'an was established as the capital in the Northern Zhou Dynasty. In the second year of Emperor Ming (558 A.D.), the three counties of Chang'an, Bacheng and Shanbei were divided into Wannian County, and they were attached to Chang'an City together with Chang'an County. The two counties of Wannian and Chang'an were Shuangfu Guo County. Although it has undergone changes, it existed until the establishment of Xi'an in the early years of the Republic of China. In addition, in the Chen Dynasty of the Southern Dynasties, Shanyin and Kuaiji counties were attached to Kuaiji County of Guo, and Shanyin County was abolished in the ninth year of Emperor Kaihuang (AD 589), and only Kuaiji County was attached to Guo.

Shuangfuguo County appeared in the Southern and Northern Dynasties, experienced the development of Sui, Tang, Song, and Liao, the shrinking of Song, Jin, Yuan, and Ming, and the heyday of Qing Dynasty, and died out in the Republic of China, which lasted more than 1300 years. In the early years of the Republic of China, administrative districts were simplified and a two-level system of provinces and counties was implemented, with only one remaining in Fuguo County.
