Chapter 12 Section 1 Bian Que (from Qinyue)

Bian Que is a well-known ancient doctor in our country.According to legend, the name of the medical officer of the Yellow Emperor was Bian Que, who was regarded as the god of medicine in ancient times. And Bian Que, who is said to be able to "return the dead" in the world, refers to Qin Yueren, a folk doctor in the Warring States Period. According to "Historical Records Biography of Bian Que", Qinyue people were born in Mao Mao County, Bohai County (now north of Renqiu County, Hebei Province). When I was young, I met Mr. Changsang, and after more than 10 years of contact, Mr. Changsang passed on his medical skills and forbidden prescriptions. The people of Qin and Yue took medicine as their profession and traveled to other countries. Because of their superb medical skills, they were highly respected by the people. The Zhao people called it "Bian Que", so the people of Qin and Yue were known as Bian Que.

There are many records about Bian Que's medical history in ancient books before Han Dynasty, and its activity time is about 300 years. It is impossible to confirm whether it refers to not one person, or the record is wrong.Among them, the three medical cases recorded in "Historical Records" are widely spread. During the time of Jin Zhaogong, Zhao Jianzi was in charge of state affairs.Zhao Jianzi was ill and was unconscious for five days, so he asked Bian Que for a consultation. After checking the pulse, Bian Que said: "The blood pulse is normal, don't be surprised. In the past, Qin Mugong also suffered from this disease, and he woke up naturally in seven days. The two people have the same disease, and they will be cured within three days." Two and a half days later, Zhao Jianzi really woke up.

Bian Que passed by Guo State, and the country was holding a prayer activity to exorcise ghosts and evil spirits because of the "violent death" of the prince.Bian Que went straight to the palace gate and asked to see a doctor for the prince.A concubine who knew medicine said to Bian Que, "Sir, you don't lie, do you? How can the dead be brought back to life? The ancient famous doctor Yu Xun (Fu Fu) has superb medical skills. If your medical skills are as good as his, the prince will be able to Live, otherwise your words will not even deceive children!" Bian Que sighed and said, "You are really short-sighted! I can diagnose a disease without hearing the sound, feeling the pulse, or looking at the shape. If you don't believe it, please enter If you look at the prince, your ears will ring and your nose will be dilated, and your thighs will still be warm in the shade." The middle son was dumbfounded, and rushed to report to Lord Guo.Mr. Guo greeted him in person. After examining the prince, Bian Que said to Lord Guo: "The prince's disease is 'corpse fall', but he is not dead." So he ordered his disciple Ziyang to acupuncture the prince's Sanyang and Wuhui.Soon the prince woke up.Bian Que also ordered Zibao to combine the medicine of eight reductions, and iron five parts under the two flanks of the prince. In an instant, the prince sat up.Bian Que also used decoction to adjust yin and yang. After taking the medicine for more than 20 days, the prince recovered as before.Since then, people have said that Bian Que can bring the dead back to life, and Bian Que often said: "I can't bring the dead back to life. It's just a person who didn't die. I cured his disease."

When Bian Que arrived in Qi State, Marquis Huan of Qi treated him with courtesy. When Bian Que met Huan Hou, he said: "You are sick. If you don't treat it, it will get worse!" Huan Hou said: "I am not sick." Defrauding people who are not sick!" Five days later, Bian Que saw Huanhou again and said, "Your disease has developed from the skin to the blood, please treat it quickly!" Huanhou still didn't think so.Five days later, Bian Que said to Marquis Huan, "Your illness has spread to the stomach and intestines, and it will go deeper if you don't cure it!" Marquis Huan ignored him at all.Five days later, Bian Que saw Huan Hou and immediately withdrew.Marquis Huan sent someone to ask why, and Bian Que said: "The disease is in the interstitial joints, which can be cured by ironing soup; in the blood vessels, needle stones can be cured; in the stomach, wine mash can be cured; in the bone marrow, it can't be cured. Now it is complete." Hou has been sick to the marrow, so there is nothing I can do." Five days later, Huanhou really fell ill, and Bian Que had left, so Huanhou died.

Bian Que is a very respected doctor who traveled to various countries to practice medicine. He changed specialties according to local customs. Zhao State respected women, so he worked as a gynecologist in Handan (the capital of Zhao State); King Zhou loved the elderly around him, and he was a doctor specializing in ear and eye diseases and limb pain in Luoyang; Qin State liked it As a child, he worked as a pediatrician in Xianyang (the capital of Qin State). The imperial doctor of the Qin Dynasty made Li Xi (xixi) jealous of Bian Que's medical skills and reputation, and sent someone to assassinate him. Therefore, Bian Que was deeply loved and sympathized by people of later generations.

"Historical Records" stated: "Bian Que is the one who talks about pulse in the world today." It can be seen that Bian Que has made great contributions to pulse science. Many ancient pulse books are called Bian Que (or Qinyue people), but in fact it is difficult to distinguish the authenticity. For example, Chun Yuyi, a famous doctor in the Western Han Dynasty, was taught by his teacher "Yellow Emperor and Bian Que's Pulse Book"; Diagnosis of all rebellious and dead veins" and so on.What content did Bian Que leave to future generations in terms of medical theory? This is also a difficult question to answer definitively. Among the pre-Qin medical records contained in "Han Shu·Yiwenzhi", there are nine volumes of "Bian Que Nei Jing", 12 volumes of "Bian Que Wai Jing", and 23 volumes of "Tai Shi Huang Di Bian Que Yu Fang".His book has long been lost, but judging from the title of the latter book, the book of "Jingfang" must have been written by the name (in the name of "Medical God" Bian Que). "The Yellow Emperor's Eighty-one Difficulties" (referred to as "Nanjing") has been handed down to the present and has a great influence. It is another classic of medical theory after the "Huangdi Neijing".Tang Yangxuancao's Annotations to the Eighty-one Difficult Classics of the Yellow Emperor said: "Sinai is written by Qinyue people in Bohai." Since then, the "Nanjing" in the catalog is often called "the author Qinyue people".However, most of the texts in "Nanjing" have the words used in the Eastern Han Dynasty. Some people think that the book was completed in the Eastern Han Dynasty, or it was polished by the Eastern Han people. However, the content of "Nanjing" is obviously related to Bian Que's academic thought. One is that the diagnosis of pulse in "Nanjing" is obviously a further development of "Neijing", especially the method of "taking the inch alone" is proposed. However, in the Western Han Dynasty, Chunyu Yi had already adopted the Cunkou Pulse Diagnosis method, which may have benefited from Bian Que's pulse book.Second, when Zhang Shoujie of the Tang Dynasty explained the Biography of Bian Que in "Historical Records of Justice", he cited the thirty-seven and forty-two difficulties of "Nan Jing" as references. It can be seen that at least "Nan Jing" reflects the academic thoughts of Qinyue people .
