Origin of idiom 王彤伟 578Words 2018-03-20
Usually we think that idioms are a fixed phrase that has been used for a long time, has a fixed structure and complete meaning. In fact, we should realize that idioms are still a special cultural term. The sources of idioms are very extensive: there are both myths and legends and historical stories; there are both poems and sentences and colloquial sayings. It can be said that idioms reflect the long history and profoundness of Chinese civilization from one side. Therefore, knowing more idioms will undoubtedly enhance our understanding of traditional culture and enhance our humanistic accomplishment. At the same time, as highly concentrated language essence, idioms are simple in form and rich in connotation. If used properly, they can achieve good expressive effects such as conciseness, forcefulness, vividness and elegance. Therefore, knowing more about idioms will also be of great help in improving our language and writing skills.

Compared with similar books, the main features of this book are: 1. The selection of items is targeted. Before writing, we conducted extensive investigations on the idioms in primary and secondary school textbooks, and screened them on this basis. In addition, we have added some interesting and commonly used readers, so this book is especially suitable for primary and middle school students and related people above. 2. Write with a rigorous academic attitude. For each selected idiom, try to check the source, complete the story, make the explanation plain, and do not make artificial sentences. When determining the source, first extensively refer to large-scale dictionaries, and then be sure to check the original text in person. The annotations and stories are mainly literal translations to ensure the original appearance of the idioms, to be faithful and credible, and not to pass on rumors. For the selection of example sentences, try to find them from famous works (among them, the "Corpus of Chinese Linguistics Research Center of Peking University" is very helpful for this, and I would like to thank you).

In a word, this book can be read as a general idiom story, and it can also be used as a credible dictionary of idioms. I hope you can benefit from it.
