Chapter 30 Echo Lawn

Sun rise make the sky happy bells ringing will spring welcome skylark and jay bird in the bush sing everywhere to the bells of joy let's start the game at echo lawn old john with white hair smile carefree sitting under the oak tree sit among the old people they laugh at us Soon they all said have fun like this when we were all young as a kid in this echo lawn until the little ones get tired no more interest the sun has set the game is over around moms pocket surrounded by brothers and sisters like a bird returning to its nest about to enter the dreamland I can't see anyone playing

on the darkening lawn The Sun does rise And make happy the skies The merry bells ring To welcome the Spring The skylark and thrush The birds of the bush Sing louder around To the bells lovely sound While our sports shall be seen On the Ecchoing Green Old John with white hair Does laugh away care Sitting under the oak Among the old folk They laugh at our play And soon they all say Such, such were the joys When we all girls & boys In our youth-time were seen On the Echoing Green Till the little ones weary No more can be merry The sun does descend

And our sports have an end Round the laps of their mothers Many sisters and brothers Like birds in their nest Are ready for rest And sport no more seen On the darkening Green
