Chapter 32 Song Huizong——Zhao Ji

Zhao Ji (1082-1135), the eleventh son of Shenzong.After ascending the throne, he favored Cai Jing and other treacherous people, and the government became increasingly corrupt.Zhao Ji indulged in pleasure, excessively increased taxes, and carried out large-scale construction projects. In 1126, Jin soldiers drove southward, approaching Bianjing.While Zhao Ji sent envoys to seek peace, he passed the throne to Prince Zhao Huan (Emperor Qin).At the end of the year, Jin Bing broke through Bianjing.In the second year of Jingkang (1127), Jin soldiers escorted Hui and Qinzong to the north, and the Northern Song Dynasty died.Zhao Ji was humiliated in the Kingdom of Jin and died in Wuguocheng (now Yilan, Heilongjiang).He was later buried in Yongyou Mausoleum (now southeast of Shaoxing, Zhejiang), and the temple name is Huizong.
