On October 7, Wu Yin gave a speech at Jindun Ancestral Hall in Anhai All kinds of questions about Buddhism have been briefly explained before.Since you have no doubts, if you want to start learning, you must first understand the various sects of Buddhism. It turns out that the purpose of Buddhism is to seek enlightenment and there are no differences. But before reaching the goal of enlightenment, there must be many paths. And on this approach, there may be various sectarian differences. In ancient India, there were various sects of Hinayana. Although Mahayana was also divided into two schools of "emptiness" and "existence", there were not many sects established separately.Since the Eastern Han Dynasty, our country has not only fully inherited the spirit of Buddhism from India, but also melted it and carried it forward. Based on the great and long-standing foundation of Chinese national culture, it has also developed many characteristics of Chinese Buddhism.By the time of the Sui and Tang Dynasties, the separation of the Hinayana and Hinayana sects had gradually been achieved. Now let's briefly describe ten cases.

1. Law Sect, also known as Nanshan Sect Established by Tang Zhong Nanshan Daoxuan Lawyer.According to the meaning of the Hua and Nirvana scriptures, and explain the Hinayana laws, the precepts of the Yuanzong sect are learned by the monks, and they also understand the five precepts and the eight precepts at home. It flourished in the Tang Dynasty, declined in the Southern Song Dynasty, and gradually flourishes today. 2. Jushezong Standing on the basis of Jushe theory. The Hinayana name is very fine, and it is the ancestor of the Hinayana. Those who want to learn the Mahayana Dharma should definitely learn this theory first, that is, those who learn other schools should also use this as the foundation, and should not treat it as the Hinayana and ignore it.

During the Chen, Sui and Tang Dynasties, it was prosperous and then declined. 3. Cheng Shizong Based on the theory of becoming a reality. It is the empty sect of Hinayana, slightly like Mahayana. During the Six Dynasties, it flourished and then declined. After the Tang Dynasty, there were almost no scholars. The above two sects were formed according to the two parts of the canon, and spread from India to China.Although it is known as the sect, it is really nothing more than the transmission, teaching and acceptance of two treatises. The above two sects belong to Hinayana, the following seven sects are all Mahayana, and Vinaya sects are in between.

4. The Three Discourses School is also known as the Xing School and the Kong School The three theories, that is, the theory of the middle, the theory of the hundred, and the theory of the twelve gates, are all created according to the Prajna Sutra.During the reign of Yao Qin, Master Kumarajiva Sanzang of the Kucha Kingdom came here to preach. It was still prosperous in the early Tang Dynasty, but it declined later. 5. Faxiangzong, also known as Ci'enzong, also known as Youzong The sutras that this sect relies on are the Unraveling the Deep Secret Sutra, the Yogi’s ground theory, etc.Master Xuanzang of the Tang Dynasty flourished this sect.It is also compiled into ten volumes of Consciousness-Only Theory by combining the explanations of the Thirty Verses on Consciousness-Only Theory written by the top ten Indian theorists, which is a famous classic of this school. This sect is the most important, and no matter what sect you study, you should learn it first as the foundation.

After the middle of the Tang Dynasty, it declined, and it was nearly revived, and scholars were very prosperous. The above two sects existed in ancient India, namely the so-called "empty" and "existent" schools. 6. Tiantai Sect, also known as Fahua Sect During the Six Dynasties, this land was established, with the Lotus Sutra as its orthodox support. It was at its peak in the time of Sui Zhizhi Master. Its teachings are more mysterious than the previous two. It was prosperous in Sui and Tang Dynasties, and it has not declined up to now. 7. Huayan Sect, also known as Xianshou Sect

In the early Tang Dynasty, this land was established, based on the Huayan Sutra. In Tang Xianshou, the national teacher was sometimes prosperous, and in Qingliang, the national teacher was always in full swing. This sect is the most extensive, and it is called the teaching sea in all scriptures. After the Song Dynasty, it declined, and there are almost few scholars today, which is a pity. 8. Zen During the reign of Emperor Wu of Liang, it was passed down to this land by the Venerable Bodhidharma of India.Although Si Zong did not establish words, he directly clarified the principles of reality. But sometimes they pretend to use the convenience of teaching in writing to spread the teachings. For example, the two Sutras of Vajra and Sri Lanka are the ones that this sect often relies on.

It was very prosperous in Tang and Song Dynasties, but it is declining today. 9. Esoteric Buddhism, also known as Shingon Buddhism During Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, it was introduced to this land successively by the Indian Shanwuwei Tripitaka and Vajra Wisdom Tripitaka.Si Zong regards the "Da Nika", "Diamond Sutra" and "Su Xidi Sutra" as his orthodox sources. After the Yuan Dynasty, it declined, but in recent years it has been revived and flourished. Among the Mahayana sects, the teachings of this sect are the most profound and the practice is the most authentic.Ordinary people have never studied poorly, and they slander lightly, which is extremely deplorable.More than ten years ago, I only read the esoteric rituals, and I also tried to lightly raise doubts. After reading the Great Day Sutra, I knew the profound meaning of Tantric Buddhism, and I repented because of the pain.I hope that you should not read the rituals first, but study the scriptures first, so that there will be no doubts.

10. Pure Land Buddhism It began with Master Jin Huiyuan, and was established according to the Sutra of Infinite Life, Sutra of Viewing Infinite Life Buddha, and Amitabha Sutra. The three common quilts are very simple and very suitable for the timing of the end of the law.In the Ming Dynasty, this sect flourished. As for modern times, it is particularly prosperous, surpassing all sects. The ten cases mentioned above are probably completed. Most of them are based on the stories of people close to us and narrated them. Among the ten sects, there is a difference between Hinayana and Mahayana. In the Mahayana, there are various differences. Here, we must not be stubborn and prejudiced, and make false distinctions.Because the Dharma is inherently equal, there is nothing to say, even the name of the Dharma cannot be obtained. Those who establish different kinds of Dharma in the unobtainable are to follow the convenience of all living beings in the world.Because all living beings have shallow and deep learning, and have different awakenings. And Buddhism also has various differences according to it, so as to adapt to it.For example, the diseases of the sick in the world vary greatly, and many kinds of medicines are required to adapt to them, and the prices are also low.It is not allowed to only respect the expensive ones and discard other cheap ones. The so-called medicine has no high or low, and the healer is good.Buddhism is also true, no matter how big or small, it gradually becomes apparent and dense, and those who can catch the opportunity are the supreme and wonderful dharmas. Therefore, although there are many Dharma-doors, each of us should choose the one that fits with our own roots and study it, which is good.
