The process of human evolution is the process of consciousness development.A tree is more conscious than a stone; an animal is more conscious than a tree; a man is more conscious than an animal; an enlightened man is more conscious than a man.Buddhahood, Christ Consciousness, Enlightenment, they all refer to the same thing: the flowering of full consciousness.Matter is totally unconscious; an enlightened being is fully awake.Man is in between: neither this nor that.He lives in a state of no up and down, no longer an animal, nor a god; no longer what he was, nor what he could be.
