This is the distinction of sages and sages.Adjusting the breath and killing the machine Haizi's various theories, knowing the brother's fable, but it is also appropriate to keep silent.Gai Xuegui Jing, the most taboo to refute.Taoism said that "life" is the slightest difference from the sage.The sage is one in the family, the country, and the world.Do you leave your body alone?彼所谓“术”,皆吾修身中之实功,特不以微躯系念,辄起绝俗之想耳。关尹子曰:“圣人知之而不为。”圣人既知矣,又何不为耶?但圣人为道,至易至简,不必别立炉灶,只致良知,人已俱得矣。知而不为者,非不为也,不必如此为也。夫自吾师去后,茫无印正。今幸兄主张斯道,慨同志凋落,四方讲会虽殷,可与言者亦非不多,但炉中火旺,会见有融释时,毫厘滓化未尽,火力一去,滓复凝矣;更望其成金足色,永无变动,难也;而况庸一言之杂其耳乎?兄为后学启口容声,关系匪细,立言之间,不可不慎也。故敢为兄妄言之。幸详述以进我。情关血脉,不避喋喋,惟兄其谅之。 前月二十五日,舟发章江。南昌诸友追送,阻风樵舍。五日入抚州,吊明水兄。又十日而始出境。舟中特喜无事,得安静构思,谱草有可了之期矣。乏人抄写,先录庚辰八月至癸未二月稿奉上。亟祈改润,即付来手。到广信,再续上。出月中旬,计可脱稿也。龙溪兄玉山遗书谓:“初以念庵兄之学偏于枯槁,今极耐心,无有厌烦,可谓得手。但恐不厌烦处落见,略存一毫知解;虽无知解,略着一些影子;尚须有针线可商量处,兄以为何如?”不肖复之曰:“吾党学问,特患不得手;若真得手。'良知'自能针线,自能商量。苟又依人商量而脱,则恐又落商量知解,终不若'良知'自照刷之为真也。”云云。昨接兄回书,云:“好心指摘,感骨肉爱。”只此一言,知兄真得手矣;真能尽性尽仁,致践履之实,以务求于自慊矣。沧海处下,尽纳百川,而不自知其深也;泰山盘旋,凌出霄汉,而不自知其高也。“良知”得手,更复奚疑?故不肖不以龙溪之疑而复疑兄也,兄幸教焉何如?舟中诸生问:“如何是知解?如何是影子?”洪应之曰:“念翁悯吉水瑶贼不均,穷民无告,量己之智足与周旋,而又得当道相知,信在言前,势又足以完此,故集一邑贤大夫、贤士友,开局以共成此事。此诚出于万物一体,诚爱恻怛之至情,非有一毫外念参于其中也。若斯时有一毫是非毁誉、利害人我,相参于其中,必不能自信之真而自为之力矣。比非尽性尽仁,'良知'真自得手,乌足与语。此或有一毫影子,曰:我闭关日久,姑假此以自试,即是不倚静知解。终日与人纷纷,而自觉无异密室,此即是不厌动知解。谓我虽自信,而同事者或未可以尽信,不信在人,于我无污,此即是不污其身之知解。谓我之首事,本以利民,若不耐心,是遗其害矣;我之首事,本以宜民,若不耐心,是不尽人情矣;我之首事,本承当道之托,若不耐心,无以慰知己;此又落在不耐心之知解也。'良知'自无是非毁誉利害人我之间,自能动静合一,自能人我同过,自能尽人之情,慰知己之遇。特不由外入,起此知解。毫厘影子与'良知'本体尚隔一尘。一尘之隔,千里之间也。”诸生闻之,俱觉惕然有警。并附以奉陈左右;亦与局中同事诸君一照刷,可以发一笑也。幸教幸教! 连日与水洲兄共榻,见其气定神清,真肯全体脱落,猛火炉煅,有得手矣。自是当无退转也。但中有一种宿惑,信梦为真,未易与破耳。久之当望殊途同归。然窥其微,终有师门遗意在也。师门之学,未有究极根柢者。苟能一路精透,始信圣人之道至广大,至精微,儒、佛、老、庄更无剩语矣。世之学者,逐逐世累,固无足与论。有志者又不能纯然归一,此适道之所以难也。吾师开悟后学,汲汲求人,终未有与之敌体承领者。临别之时,稍承剖悉,但得老师一期望而已,未尝满其心而去也。数十年来,因循岁月,姑负此翁。所幸吾兄得手,今又得水洲共学,师道尚有赖也。但愿简易直截,于人伦日用间无事拣择,便入神圣,师门之嘱也。《大学》一书,此是千古圣学宗要,望兄更加详究;略涉疑议,便易入躐等径约之病也,慎之慎之!即日上怀玉,期完谱尾,以承批教,归日当卜出月终旬也。 谱草苟完,方自怀玉下七盘岭,忽接手教,开缄宛如见兄于少华峰下,清洒殊绝,感赐深也。四卷所批种种皆至意。先师千百年精神,同门逡巡数十年,且日凋落,不肖学非夙悟,安敢辄承。非兄极力主裁,慨然举笔,许与同事,不敢完也。又非柏泉公极力主裁,名山胜地,深居廪食,不能完也。岂先师精神,前此久未就者,时有所待耶?伸理冀元亨一段,如兄数言简而核,后当俱如此下笔也。闻老师遣冀行,为刘养正来致濠殷勤,故冀有此行,答其礼也。兄所闻核,幸即裁之。铺张二字,最切病端,此贫子见金而喜也。平时稍有得,每与师意会,便起赞叹称羡。富家子只作如常茶饭,见金而起喜心者,贫子态也。此非老成持重,如兄巨眼,安能觑破。兄即任意尽削之,不肖得兄举笔,无不快意,决无护持疼痛也,信之信之!教学三变诸处,俱如此例。若不可改,尽削去之。其余所批,要收不可少处。此弟之见正窃比于兄者。 自古圣贤,未有不由忧勤惕励而能成其德业。今之学者,只要说微妙玄通,凌躐超顿,在言语见解上转。殊不知老师与人为善之心,只要实地用功,其言自谦逊卑抑。《大学》“诚意”章:“惟不自欺者,其心自谦,非欲谦也,心常不自足也。”兄所批教处,正见近来实得与师意同也。 舒国裳在师门,《文录》无所见,惟行福建市舶司取至军门一牌。《传习续录》则与陈维濬、夏于中同时在坐问答语颇多。且有一段,持纸乞写“拱把桐梓”一章,欲时读以省。师写至“至于身而不知所以养”之句,因与座中诸友笑曰:“国裳中过状元来,岂尚不知所以养,时读以自警耶?”在座者闻之,皆竦然汗背。此东廓语也。 又丙午年游安福复古书院,诸友说张石盘初不信师学。人有辩者。张曰:“岂有好人及其门耶?”辩者曰:“及门皆好人也。”张曰:“东廓岂及门乎?”辩者曰:“已在赣及门矣。”又曰:“舒国裳岂及门乎?”曰:“国裳在南昌及门矣。”张始默然俯首,后亦及门。 是年,石盘携其子会复古。其子举人囗囗,至今常在会,未有及门之说。昨南昌闻之诸友,相传因问律吕元声,乃心服而拜,盖其子侄辈叙其及门之端也。昨见兄疑,又检中离《续同志考》,舒芬名在列。则其诸所相传者不诬也。如兄之教,去前“不欲”一段,存后“问元声”语可矣。 徐珊尝为师刻《居夷集》,盖在癸未年,及门则辛巳年九月,非龙场时也。 继后可商量处甚多,兄有所见,任举笔裁之。兹遣徐生时举持全集面正门下。弟心力已竭,虽闻指教,更不能再著思矣。惟兄爱谅之。 不肖五月季旬到舍下,又逾月十日,始接兄二月四日峡江书。一隔千里,片纸之通,遂难若此,感慨又何深也!玉体久平复,在怀玉已得之柏泉兄。兹读来谕,更觉相警之情也。深入究竟,虽父子之间,不能一语接,诚然诚然!此可与千古相感,而不可与对面相传,在有志者自究自竟之耳。天根亥子,白沙诗中亦泄此意。达“性命”之微者,信口拈来,自与道合。但我阳明先师全部文集,无非此意,特无一言搀入者,为圣学立大防也。兄之明教究悉,然于此处幸再详之。兄卧处卑湿,早晚亦须开关,径行登眺,以舒泄蔽郁之气,此亦去病之一端也。徐时举来,师《谱》当已出稿,乞早遣发,远仰远仰! 春来与王敬所为赤城会,归天真,始接兄峡江书,兼读师《谱》考订,感一体相成之心,庆师教之有传也。中间题纲整洁,增录数语,皆师门精义,匪徒庆师教之有传,亦以验兄闭关所得,默与师契,不疑其所行也。 去年归自怀玉,黄沧溪读谱草,与见吾、肖溪二公互相校正,亟谋梓行。未儿,沧溪物故,见吾闽去,刻将半矣。六卷已后,尚得证兄考订。然前刻已定,不得尽如所拟,俟番刻,当以兄考订本为正也。中间增采《文录》、《外集》、《传习续录》数十条,弟前不及录者,是有说,愿兄详之。 先师始学,求之宋儒。不得入,因学养生,而沉酣于二氏,恍若得所入焉。至龙场,再经忧患,而始豁然大悟“良知”之旨。自是出与学者言,皆发“诚意”“格物”之教。病学者未易得所入也,每谈二氏,犹若津津有味。盖将假前日之所入,以为学者入门路径。辛巳以后,经宁藩之变,则独信“良知”,单头直入,虽百家异术,无不具足。自是指发道要,不必假途傍引,无不曲畅旁通。故不肖刻《文录》,取其指发道要者为《正录》,其涉假借者,则厘为《外集》。谱中所载,无非此意。盖欲学者志专归一,而不疑其所往也。 师在越时,同门有用功恳切而泥于旧见,郁而不化者,时出一险语以激之,如水投石,于烈焰之中,一击尽碎,纤滓不留,亦千古一大快也。听者于此等处,多好传诵,而不究其发言之端。譬之用药对症,虽芒硝大黄,立见奇效;若不得症,未有不因药杀人者。故圣人立教,只指揭学问大端,使人自证自悟;不欲以峻言隐语,立偏胜之剂,以快一时听闻,防其后之足以杀人也。 师殁后,吾党之教日多歧矣。洪居吴时,见吾党喜为高论,立异说,以为亲得师传,而不本其言之有自。不得已,因其所举而指示言之端。私录数条,未敢示人。不意为好事者窃录。甲午主试广东,其录已久岭表。故归而删正;刻《传习续录》于水西,实以破传者之疑,非好为多述,以耸学者之听也。故谱中俱不采入。而兄今节取而增述焉。然删刻苦心,亦不敢不谓兄一论破也,愿更详之。 室远,书扎往复甚难,何时合并,再图面证,以了未尽之私!德教在思,寤寐如见,惟不惜遐音,仰切仰切!是书复去,念庵隋以计报,竟不及一见,痛哉痛哉!
