Dharma Overview 明旸法师 5168Words 2018-03-20
The following is the origin of the story of water repentance. Please listen carefully and think about it. It is the story of Wu Da Guoshi suffering from "evil sores" or "human facial sores". It is also an interesting historical textbook. .During the period of Emperor Yizong of the Tang Dynasty, he worshiped a national teacher named Wu Da, also known as Zhichen. When this Master Wu Da was a young monk in his early years, he lived with an old bhikkhu in a temple in Kyoto. The old bhikkhu was named Venerable Kanoka. It was very dirty, and everyone was afraid of this evil disease, and no one dared to take care of it or approach it.But there is only one fellow monk, Wu Da, who remembers the Buddha’s teaching that in the field of all blessings, the first thing to do is to serve the sick, so he inspired great compassion, never left his side, day and night, personally served the soup and medicine, diligently and unremittingly, without any signs of fatigue. After Kanojia recovered from his illness, he was deeply moved by Master Wu's attentive service and compassionate care. When the two were parting, the Venerable said to Master Wuda reluctantly: "In the future, when you promote medicine and benefit life, if you If you need my help in case of difficulties and pains, you can come to Jiulong Mountain in Pengzhou, Sichuan (Western Shu) to find me."Master Wu said: "Jiulong Mountain is high, wide and deep, and it may not be easy to find it."His Holiness said, "There are two ancient pine trees in front of the house where I live, which is a clear sign."After saying that, the two masters went their separate ways and went their separate ways.Master Wu went to Anguo Temple to live in Zhuoxi, and immediately promoted the Dharma to save all living beings.Because of the high morality of the teacher, he was well-known, so Emperor Yizong was moved to come to the Dharma seat in person, and he was ordered to mention it in his ears, and he was deeply rained by the Dharma, moistening his heart. In order to show the solemn grace, he gave the throne carved with agarwood and worshiped as the national teacher. At that time, Wu Da Guoshi was promoted to the throne.Nothing is more glorious than that. Then I was worshiped by His Majesty and the ministers of civil and military affairs of the Manchu Dynasty, and I was very happy. As soon as the national teacher is happy, the seven emotions suddenly appear, and he enters the world to work, just like an ordinary man. Therefore, he has the opportunity to retaliate against the creditors of unjust karma in many lifetimes.A strange "human face" sore suddenly appeared on the national teacher's knee, and eyebrows, eyes and articulates grew on it, which were clearly visible. The strange thing is that it needs to be fed every day, and it swallows every meal, just like ordinary people.Sometimes the sores on the human face clenched their teeth and rattled, causing Master Wu to suffer unbearably in pain.I searched for famous doctors everywhere for treatment, but the doctors were helpless.Day by day, Hua Tuo Bian Que will be reborn. I'm afraid it will be difficult to cure this strange disease of unjust karma, debt collection, and karma!Only the boundless Buddha virtue and the majestic samadhi are the prescriptions for overcoming the disease. At this critical juncture, Master Wu was hesitating and upset, and suddenly remembered the exhortations given by his former colleague Canganojia when they parted, and immediately prepared to pack and rush to Jiulong to find a savior. At this time, it was dusk, and when I looked around, the mountain road was rugged and the clouds were blooming above my head. Looking into the haze from a distance, I saw two tall and tall pines standing tall and green.Master Wu saw that this scenic spot was like entering Penglai, and he didn't feel at ease. If what Master Nuo said was true, he would recover from his illness in a day.As soon as you enter Shuangsong, you can see the tall towers and pavilions in the mountains, resplendent and resplendent, it is indeed another world. After a while, I saw two boys in green clothes standing sideways at the door, behind was an elderly eminent monk, Ding Qing took a look, it turned out to be the old fellow Canganoga Venerable who wanted to visit in his heart. He is greeting each other with palms together and staying overnight.Master Wu should tell you about the sickness and suffering. When the venerable saw it, he said, "The name of this sore is a sore on the human face. I have medicine to cure it. Please don't worry. There is a spring under the rock on the side of the mountain. Wash the affected part with water tomorrow, and the disease can be cured." get well".In the early morning of the next day, Er Tong was ordered to lead the way to the spring, where he began to wash the sores with spring water.Immediately, I heard a loud cry. It turned out that the sores on the human face were screaming urgently and said in a human voice: "Please be merciful, old master, don't wash it. Thanks to the great power of the great virtue, we are very grateful. But your lord, you are a great virtuous and eminent monk, with far-sighted knowledge and knowledge of the past and the present, you should have read the history book Yuan Ang Chaocuo of the Western Han Dynasty." The teacher said: "Yes, I have read it."The sore on the human face said: "Master must know about Yuan An's murder of Chao Cuo. I will tell the venerable today: Wu Da is the former Yuan An, and I am the former Chao Cuo. I was murdered by him, so I was deeply wronged. As a punishment, he was cut in half in Dongshi. The grievances are as deep as the sea, and the grievances have been entangled for thousands of years. The hatred has not been punished for the injustice of being cut in half, and avenges my death. Yan, the pure light and the Buddha's light are shining, so that I can't get close to him, and I can't find them seamlessly. In this life, he is favored and forgets his worries, enjoys extravagance, has a desire for fame and fortune, loses his virtue, and loses his dignity. It is convenient to avenge him, and he is willing to make his sore face painful and embarrassing. Now Venerable Canoga washes me with samadhi water, dissolves the knot of grievances for me, and eliminates the deep hatred in the invisible. From now on, I will not come again It is harmful to him." Wu Da Guoshi heard the cause and effect of the human face sore, the retribution was obvious, and the shocking words were frightening, and he was out of his wits.Hurry up to grab the spring water and continue to wash. Although the pain pierces the bone marrow, I faint for a while. When I wake up, the strange thing is that the sore of Chao Cuo has healed and disappeared without a trace. At this time, the national teacher turned his head and looked around, there was silence, and there was no trace of Ganuojia. It is because the sages and sages have mixed up and lived in the world, which is really beyond the understanding of ordinary people.

In order to commemorate this strange encounter, Master Wu built a nunnery at the sacred site of Shuangsong, named Zhaoti Temple. In the third year of Song Dynasty and Dao Dynasty, this temple was bestowed by the emperor and named Zhide Chan Temple. At that time, the eminent monks and believers learned about it and made a record, so that later generations of scholars could know the historical facts.Master Wu Da Guo experienced the situation, felt deeply, repented the sins and obstacles of the past life, and became more courageous and diligent. And everyone repented of their own karma, and relieved the grievances of previous lives. This is the reason for the initiation of "Samadhi Water Repentance". I hope that the disciples of the Buddha, good men and women, can strictly accept the first precept of "not killing" through the lessons of history. Please think about the above historical stories, although they are similar to myths , but it is also enough to see that Buddhism attaches great importance to the precept of ahimsa, and all my believers should practice it.

(1) Succession of karma and fruit in the Shurangama Sutra The continuation of karma and fruit in the fourth volume of the "Surangama Sutra" pointed out: "The Buddha told the Venerable Fulou that: 'If you want to love the same knot, but love can't be separated, then all the world, parents and children, will continue to be born together. It is based on desire and greed'. He also said: "Greed and love grow together, and greed cannot be stopped. In the world, wombs, eggs, wetness, transformation, and strength will be swallowed one by one. If it is the same, it will kill greed It is based on'. He also said: 'People eat sheep, sheep die for people, and people die for sheep. If this is the case, even for ten lives, life and death, life and death, come and eat each other, evil karma will be born, and the future will be poor. It is based on stealing and greed. You owe my life, and I will repay your debt. Because of this cause and condition, after hundreds of thousands of eons, you will always be born and die. You love my heart, and I pity your face. Entanglement, only killing, stealing and prostitution are the three as the root, so cause and condition, karma and fruit continue'".

(2) Using precepts to help meditation in the Shurangama Sutra The sixth volume of the "Surangama Sutra" mentions in the article "The Buddha told Ananda, "How can you take care of your heart, my name is Jie." "If in all the worlds, the minds of the six realms of beings are not lustful, they will not follow their life and death. When you practice samadhi, you are born out of dust and toil. If you don't get rid of lustful minds, you can't get out of dust. You teach people in the world to practice samadhi, first cut off their minds. , is called the Tathagata, the first decision of the former Buddha, the world-honored one, pure and clear instructions. Therefore, Ananda, if one does not stop lusting and cultivates meditation, it is like steaming sand and stones. If you want it to become rice, after hundreds of thousands of kalpas, it will only be called hot sand. Why? Therefore, this is not rice, but sand and stone.

Also in all worlds, beings in the six realms, if their minds do not kill, they will not follow their birth and death. When you practice samadhi, you are born out of dust and toil. If you don’t get rid of the killing intent, you can’t get rid of the dust. You teach the people of the world to practice samadhi and to abstain from killing for the second time. This is the second decision of the Tathagata, the former Buddha, World Honored One, the pure and clear instructions. Therefore, Ananda, if you continue to kill and practice meditation, it is like someone who plugs his ears and yells loudly, begging others not to hear him.

Also, if the sentient beings in the six realms of the world do not steal their minds, they will not follow their birth and death. When you practice samadhi, you are born out of dust and toil. If you don’t get rid of the mind of stealing, you can’t get rid of the dust. No matter how wise you are, if you keep stealing, you will fall into the wrong way.You teach the people of the world to practice samadhi and refrain from stealing. This is the third determination of the Tathagata, the former Buddha, the World Honored One, the pure and clear instructions. That's why Ananda, if you keep stealing and practicing meditation, for example, if someone leaks water? , Desiring to be satisfied, even after the dusty kalpa, there is no recovery.Such is the world, the sentient beings of the six realms, although physically and mentally, do not kill, steal or prostitute, and the three lines are fulfilled. If you speak big lies, that is, samadhi, you will not be pure, you will fall in love with seeing demons, and you will lose the seed of the Tathagata. If you don’t get it, you can’t prove it.It is a Tanka, destroying the Buddha species. If a person cuts off a taro tree with a knife, the Buddha said that this person will perish forever, lose his good roots, lose his knowledge and see, sink into the sea of suffering, and fail to achieve samadhi. That is why, Ananda, if one does not stop talking big lies, it will be like carving human excrement in the shape of a sandalwood, and it will be useless if one desires fragrance. "The scriptures quoted above are only abstract excerpts.

According to the two passages of the Shurangama Sutra quoted above, it is clear that we must be aware of the four sexual precepts of killing, stealing, fornication, and arrogance, as well as the prohibition against drinking. of.Therefore, the five precepts established by the Buddha are the basic precepts of Vinaya, and they are also the great sins of Siparayi. Let's study the two precepts of killing and lust first!Take the above-mentioned saying that people kill sheep, sheep die for people, people die for sheep and kill each other, and each other kills each other, you take my life, you pay my debt, I take your life, I pay your debt. Therefore, they forged a deep hatred with each other, and the karma will not die. That is, after a long time of hundreds of thousands of kalpas, it is always in the cycle of life and death, and it continues continuously.Killing like this, karma is not bad at all.It is the same with lust. You love my body, I love your heart, you pity my color, I pity your color, between men and women, love each other, love each other forever, love can not be separated, inseparable, the ancients said: "I wish to be lovebirds in the sky. ; On the ground, I would like to be a Lianli branch."In this way, even after hundreds of millions of kalpas, they are always entangled in the sea of life and death, unable to escape. Therefore, Emperor Wenchang once said: "The sea of karma is vast, and the chief evil is nothing like lust. The world is long, and the only easy crime is sexual immorality. Name. It started with a single thought, and it caused no redemption for a lifetime."But when it comes to this issue of lust and adultery, who can "step off the red thread under your feet and jump out of the great fire pit of the world of mortals".It can make your mind and body pure, comfortable and happy, without any attachments or hindrances, and go freely.

Among the five precepts, the first four precepts are not to kill, not to steal, not to commit adultery, and not to lie, which are consistent with the five precepts of other religions. This is the fundamental norm for maintaining social order, and any society should be established based on this fundamental norm. However, there is a slight difference in the sequence. "Manu Law Code" includes no killing, no lying, no stealing, no immoral life (no adultery) and no greed and hatred. The "Baudayana Law Code" includes five kinds: no killing, no lying, no stealing, patience and no greed. "Qian Duo Chuan Ye Upanishad" has five kinds of asceticism, charity, righteous conduct, non-killing and truth speech, which are the five major obligations of practitioners.Jainism says that there are five precepts not to kill, not to steal, not to lie, not to be sexually explicit, and abstain from lust. The Yoga school also said that there are five precepts not to kill, not to lie, not to steal, not to commit sexual misconduct and not to be greedy.Among other Buddhist precepts, the first four of the five precepts are also the most important precepts. For example, the aforementioned Bhikkhu Four Parayis are the precepts of adultery, robbery, and deception. Among the ten heavy precepts of the Mahayana precepts, the first four precepts are killing, robbery, adultery, and deception.Only when the monastic precepts are given, the abstinence from adultery is changed to abstinence from adultery.

(3) Responsibility report for violating the precepts Now I will cite another story, because of evil intentions and lustful thoughts, he was killed and killed. It is said that once upon a time there was a man who kept the five precepts and lived in the land. One day, he walked through the mountains and villages. When night fell, he could not see the houses in the village. He walked and walked, eager to find a place to stay for the night, and suddenly saw a hut not far from him. The oil lamp was flickering, so I had no choice but to knock on the door for the night. Unexpectedly, there was only a middle-aged woman in the house, so she explained her intentions. The woman said, "My husband is a mountain demon Rakshasa. If you come back every night, you will be eaten by him if you live here."The layman said: "I am a Buddhist, I observe the five precepts, and I have a guardian god to protect me, so please rest assured."The woman arranged for him to live in the next room. The ordained layman devoted himself to pure and pious precepts that night, and said goodbye to the next day when he was safe and sound. But the woman felt strange, the Rakshasa ghost husband would come back every night, why didn't he come home last night?Strange! The layman walked and thought, thinking that this woman was lying to me when she said that she had a Raksha husband. There would be no such strange things. One night, talking nonsense and maliciously. The woman thought to herself: This layman is a kind person who keeps the precepts. He stayed here last night, and the Rakshasa did not come back. Maybe he has the ability to overcome evil, so she agreed to the layman's request.Unfortunately, the layman came to live tonight with bad intentions, so he had a sexual desire at night, molested women in every possible way, and forcibly committed adultery. At the critical moment, there was only a gust of dark wind, and the mountain demon broke into the door. Seeing the situation, he was furious, and couldn't help being jealous, so he ate the layman alive.Alas for a life!At this time, she was startled and terrified, and the woman who refused to complain asked Raksha's husband, "Where did you go last night? Why didn't you go home?" He couldn’t open his eyes either. He seemed to see the God King patrolling around. He couldn’t even find the door when he was in a hurry. He had no choice but to go, but he came back tonight safe and sound. There was no light and no God King.” We must know, hold on The virtues of the precepts are inconceivable. If a layman takes one point of precepts, he will be protected by five Dharma protectors.Of course, twenty-five precepts are supported by the five precepts. This layman asked for accommodation on the first night. Don't dare to enter the room.On the second night, the layman suddenly had obscene thoughts, broke the precepts, and the king of gods left, lost his light, and suffered a tragic death, invoking evil retribution. The ancients said: "There is no way to misfortune and good fortune, only people call on themselves, and the retribution of good and evil follows you like a shadow." Can you be careless? This story, I hope everyone will think about it carefully, it will definitely be of great help to the practice of precepts.

(4) Alcohol abstinence Prohibition of alcohol in the fifth precept is a characteristic of Buddhist precepts. As mentioned above, Buddhism is an awakened religion, and it hates drunkenness the most.Regarding the content of the Five Precepts, there are of course various interpretations that adapt to the times and in a broad sense, but this matter will be described under the Ten Good Precepts below. Let me briefly describe the points in which the Five Precepts are consistent with the Five Constants in ancient Confucianism. Not killing or even drinking alcohol is equivalent to benevolence, righteousness, propriety, faith, and wisdom. This is what Mou Zi, who advocated the unity of the three religions of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, said as early as in the post-Han period in his "Liaolun".The five precepts and the five constants are completely consistent in spirit.Expressing the spirit of the Five Constants as specific prohibited items becomes the Five Precepts.Among the five precepts, the behaviors of the first four precepts are anti-moral and sinful behaviors, but the behavior of drinking alcohol itself is not necessarily a sin. However, drinking alcohol can cause other "evil" opportunities. Therefore, the sins of the first four precepts are called sexual sins, and drinking alcohol is called expiation.

Regarding the evils of drinking alcohol, there are many sutras and precepts. In "Zhidu Lun", it talks about the thirty-five mistakes of drinking alcohol. This is the example.Alcohol today can create an opportunity to commit other crimes, because behind the common crimes today, there must be both alcohol and women. This is of course supported by detailed crime statistics.Regarding this matter, there is an interesting story in "On the Degree of Wisdom", that is, a man stole a neighbor's chicken for the sake of drinking, and killed it as a dish. Rape it.In this way, by drinking alcohol, one has committed the crimes of the four precepts of stealing, killing, lying and adultery.Drinking alcohol in this way can be the reason for committing other crimes, so it should be avoided. (5) Bajie Believers at home must observe a part of the precepts of monks, especially for the implementation of strict religious life, on the prescribed dates, which are called "eight precepts" or "eight fasts".Its content is based on the first five precepts, plus the three precepts of ① not eating out of season (not eating in the afternoon), ② abstaining from singing and dancing, watching and listening to sesame oil, and ③ abstaining from tall and wide beds.At this time, the non-sexual immorality in the Five Precepts, of course, means no sexual immorality.Originally, this precept was strictly observed on the eighth, fourteenth, and fifteenth Uposath days of every half month, so there are six precept days in a month. Therefore, it is called "Six Fast Days". In today's terms, it can be said that every Sunday is a day of self-denial, and with religious beliefs, a life of abstinence is especially practiced.Lay people are usually prone to fall into the life of love and material desires, so at least a few days in a month must live a life of abstinence like a monk, in order to get close to the realm of religion, so this is called "close living". Therefore, the precepts are called "the discipline of living near".This means living close to Buddhism.
