Chapter 25 postscript

Adam Smith's famous book "The Theory of Moral Sentiments") was created in the 1750s. After the first edition in 1759, it was "finalized" after five revisions and reprints in 31 years. The difficulty of translating such a work can be imagined. The reason why we dared to accept this task at that time was mainly due to the encouragement, support and help of Professor Chen Biaoru, a famous economist and translator in our country. The entire translation process from the winter of 1979 to the spring of 1985 was carried out under the guidance of Mr. Chen, and whenever difficulties were encountered, he was given advice and interpretation in time.Mr. Chen also personally reviewed some of the translations. The revision work of the whole book is undertaken by Comrade Hu Qilin.

In the process of translating this book, we also received support and help from Comrades Wu Hengkang, Wang Yongquan and Zhu Yang, for which we would like to express our deep gratitude. The translation of this book was presided over by Jiang Ziqiang, of which the first and second volumes were translated by Qin Beiyu, the third and fourth volumes were translated by Zhu Zhongdi, the fifth and sixth volumes were translated by Shen Kaizhang, and the seventh volume was translated by Jiang Ziqiang translate. All translations were revised and finalized by Qin Beiyu and Jiang Ziqiang.
