Chapter 49 (5) Buddhist practice

I don't know how long it took, but Baoyu came to Ximen Jiaodian. According to the old monk's words, he found this ancient temple. The flat land zigzags to the top of the slope. The gate of the temple opens to the east, and there are forests of deep trees on the left and right outside the gate. When the sun rises, red and green are reflected.Baoyu stood outside the mountain gate and couldn't help chanting "Entering the ancient temple in the early morning, the first sun shines on the high forest", that Tang Xian wrote really well! When Baoyu came to the temple, the old abbot had already talked with him in the city, and he knew that he was not a vulgar person. He could understand the Buddha's heart, but he was unwilling to be a vulgar monk. , only close to the Buddhist gate, acting as a waiter, with hair, like a walker. He was only asked to copy scriptures every day. That precious jade is very well written. Kuang Su'ai is writing the stele of Youjun's "Preface to the Holy Teaching of Sanzang".

He gradually had a real understanding of the realm of Buddhism.I also take a look at it from time to time, and I can recognize the yellow tiles of the palace in the distant capital. I think of the joys and sorrows in the sea of people, changing rapidly, seeming to exist but difficult to prove, and it is empty but actually exists. The myriad of joys and sorrows are real, and there are all evidences for them; if things have passed and the situation is changed, and it is said to be empty, wouldn't it be reversed for the future?A river of spring water flows eastward endlessly, and the passing water seems insignificant, but the big river is always in front of us, so why was there nothing left?Dongpo also once said - "Looking at what remains unchanged, the dead have not gone away." Dongpo is well versed in Buddhism, why is there such a warning? It can be seen that there is still a principle of immortality.

Don't talk about Baoyu's fantasies, but just talk about how the world knows his true thoughts. Sure enough, there are rumors in the city that the down-and-out brother in Rongfu has left home and gone to the temple to become a monk. Since then, the young man has never been seen in the city again. The common opinion of the world is that Baoyu has some crazy and silly names since he was a child, but now he has become more and more crazy, which is both ridiculous and lamentable. Let’s say that Baoyu was originally an intelligent person, whose talent was higher than that of ordinary people, but the more intelligent he became, the more crazy he became. .For example, when I was in the city, as a brother, I didn’t regard wealth as a beautiful place to enjoy my work. When I was a beggar, I was cold, hungry and poor, and I couldn’t bear the misery. Now in the ancient temples in mountain villages where the dust is secluded from the world, although I know that I enjoy the paradise of pure heart and desire, but I can't let go of my heart's concern and the pursuit of love. The old abbot was full of compassion, intending to save this young genius with great wisdom, for a long time.I also know that this person is different, so I can only explain half of it to enlightenment, and half of it adapts to the situation.

Day by day, Pai and Baoyu's compulsory homework was to be completed, and he did not neglect it.In his spare time, he learns from the old monk. It turns out that he also likes brush and ink when he sees the old monk. One day, the two sat opposite each other and started arguing. Baoyu said, "Buddhism says that it cuts emotions and abandons thoughts, so why are there so many poems handed down from ancient times by monks and monks? Don't they live in Buddhism and recite the principles of emptiness?" The old monk replied: "When the monk writes poems, it is probably because the poet has lost his way and hides in Buddhism. He looks like a Shizi, and his heart is a Yin family. This is not strange."

Baoyu nodded. He asked again: "If it is as the teacher said, those Dadizi, Jianjiang, Bada, etc., are outsiders in appearance, and they are nothing more than literati and artists hiding in Buddhism?" The old monk replied: "Yes That’s right, but since you’ve entered Buddhism, your ability to meditate on wonderful principles is far more profound than that of literati in the world.” Baoyu then laughed and said, "I have also liked Danqing painting since I was a child, as a play. Later, I read "Bitter Melon Monk's Painting Theory", and it was a big event for Fang Wu to realize the meaning of painting. At that time, I wondered: Shakya Tathagata talked about empty space, but he advocated ' A painting' is the foundation of all beings, the root of everything'? Isn't it very important to the hue?"

The old monk also nodded and sighed: "You are right! But his reasoning is much more advanced than Xie He's 'Six Laws', which is widely spread in the world. This is also the cause and effect of his being able to enter Buddhism." Baoyu said again: "In this way, he not only does not abolish all phenomena, but advocates the theory of 'one painting', and uses brush and ink to describe everything in the world. This is not related to the Buddha's saying that 'form is emptiness, and emptiness is form', right? But I think, human beings are the most precious of all things in the world. Human beings are spiritual things. If you want to shape all things, how can you shape human beings first? Since I was young, I didn’t pay much attention to the pictures of landscapes, insects and fish, but only loved the images of figures and ladies. I don’t know this It means right and wrong, so I beg for advice." The old monk said: "It is the most difficult to draw people, so the few people who are good at painting people are the least skilled. However, painting objects is not about painting the outer shape of objects, but actually painting people's emotional nature of objects. Therefore, painting objects are not objects, and objects are also human ears."

Baoyu has a deep understanding at the moment. In addition to writing scriptures in the temple, he also occasionally painted a few scenes, and he really felt that the artistic conception was different from the one he made when he was thirteen years old.He realized the true meaning of "one painting contains ten thousand paintings". The so-called "one painting" does not mean simplicity, nor is it a misunderstanding that all forms belong to "uniform".The paintings in the temple are a hundred times more splendid than before, and everyone who sees them loves and praises them.Gradually, the name of this "monk son" was widely spread in the mountain villages in this area.

Because the murals in the main hall had been damaged for a long time, the old monk ordered Baoyu to repaint the three big walls. As expected, Baoyu lived up to his instructions and painted very wonderfully.During the temple period, the mountain gate was opened, and faithful men and women from far and near came to worship. When they saw this brand-new mural, they all admired it, and it spread all over the mountain village, and everyone came to see it. The portraits of the ladies he painted are even more astonishing. Every girl has a unique look and expression, unlike him who has painted a total of 108 portraits. , and all of them are copied and written. Bi Xiao's true face and true meaning are not fabricated gestures out of thin air.

These paintings are stored in this temple. After seeing it, the old abbot said that it would still be useful in the future, and at that time there would be a relationship that should be attached to this painting.
