Chapter 129 I miss Mr. Lao She

Our great socialist motherland is a unified multi-ethnic country.People of all nationalities live together in solidarity, friendship and intimacy.I have lived on the campus of the Central University for Nationalities in Beijing for more than 20 years. My neighbors and friends of ethnic minorities, old and young, male and female, are too numerous to count!Since I was twelve years old, I have lived in Beijing, the capital of my motherland.Among the residents in Beijing, there are many Manchu people. Many of my classmates and friends are Manchu people.Mr. Lao She is the one I am most familiar with and admire among my Manchu friends in the literary and art circles.

Mr. Lao She was born in a poor Manchu family. In 1900, the Eight-Power Allied Forces invaded Beijing and plundered it wantonly. Even this poor Manchu family was "rumoured".Mr. Lao She, who was less than one year old, was lying on the kang at that time, and he was actually detained under an empty box!It was only after the foreign soldier left angrily with nothing, that his parents brought out Shu Qingchun, who was less than one year old, from under the empty box. Later, he was also named Shu Sheyu, that is, Lao She, a patriotic writer who is well-known both at home and abroad in modern times!

I met Mr. Lao She in the early 1930s.I had a close relationship with him in Chongqing during the Anti-Japanese War.Under the leadership of Premier Zhou and Comrade Guo Moruo, etc., he was engaged in the work of resisting the enemy in literary and art circles. I am also a member of the All-China Association of Literary and Art Circles Against the Enemy.I took refuge in Geleshan on the outskirts of Chongqing due to illness, and he often came up to the mountain to visit and chat, and he became best friends with our family. At that time, he gave us a lot of poems and notes, and now there is only a manuscript of a three-act play.At that time, he thought the manuscript was neatly written and gave it to me as a souvenir. When Lin Biao and the "Gang of Four" were rampant, most of the books and paintings I had collected from my friends were lost, including a fan of poetry and painting that Mr. Lao She and his wife collaborated with before the "Cultural Revolution".Only part of the three-act script remains. This loss, like the unfortunate death of Mr. Lao She, can never be made up for!

Mr. Lao She is a famous "people's artist". His works, such as novels, folk art, drama, poetry, translation, etc., are well known to everyone, so I will not list them here.In another article commemorating him, I said: "I feel that his works have a special charm. His vivid and vivid language fully expresses the local color of Beijing; it fully conveys the grief, bitterness, yearning and hope of the working people in Beijing. There is a sadness in his humor. Tears, the warmth and light of class friendship can be seen in the darkness. Each character in the book uses his or her most suitable identity and the most authentic Beijing dialect to express the brand or trauma that the old society has inflicted on them. This , is unique among writers of our generation."

What I have mentioned above are works written by Mr. Lao She before liberation to expose, criticize, criticize, and condemn the old society. After liberation, with boundless enthusiasm, Mr. Lao She devoted himself to the creative activities of praising the new China, the master of the new China, praising the party and praising Chairman Mao.His writing energy is amazing. He also makes the best use of his time. He is constantly completing his masterpieces between talking with friends, social activities, planting flowers, and raising cats. His personality, like his works, is hearty, humorous, simple, and passionate. But it was such a rare and well-known Manchu writer who unfortunately passed away under the ravages and oppression of Lin Biao and the "Gang of Four"!After 1971, when I met with American and Japanese friends, as well as overseas Chinese and ethnic Chinese returning home to visit relatives, they always asked about Mr. Lao She with great concern.Mr. Lao She has been to Britain, the United States, Japan, Southeast Asia and other places, and he is no stranger among these Chinese and foreign friends! The novel was all the rage in America.Children's drama "Treasure Ship"

Performed on Japanese stage. To their questions, at that time, what can I say besides saying with tears in my eyes: "Mr. Lao She passed away in August 1966"? Mr. Lao She has passed away, and we living friends of him should learn from him to study Marxism-Leninism and Mao Zedong Thought seriously, and use Premier Zhou's teachings of "live to old, learn to old, and reform to old" to spur ourselves, Under the leadership of the Party Central Committee, I will work hard to write for the arduous and magnificent cause of realizing the four modernizations of the motherland by the end of this century!October 1978 (This article was originally published in the 10th issue of "People's Pictorial" in 1978, and was later included in "Wan Qing Ji".)
