Chapter 82 Resend Little Reader Newsletter Seventeen

Dear children: A few days ago, with great excitement, I went to visit a young doctor from Gannan who came to Beijing to participate in the Heroes Meeting - Li Gong.In the reception room, the comrade in charge introduced me to a young man wearing a blue cloth uniform with a shining medal on his chest, with a medium build, two thick thick eyebrows, rosy cheeks, and a smiling face. I have heard of that doctor who has a high degree of revolutionary humanitarianism and serves the Tibetan people wholeheartedly. When we talked, he was shy at first. But under our constant questioning, in his own deep memories, he gradually became more and more excited and fluent in speaking. His extremely touching story made me cry several times. Moved to tears!

Dr. Li Gong is only 26 years old this year. He is from Lanzhou, Gansu. In 1954, when he graduated from the Lanzhou Health School and was assigned to work in Gannan, he was very excited, thinking that he would work with the industrious Tibetans. The brave, singing and dancing people lived and worked together, and when they reached the grassland, the difficult environment made him hesitate. There is a plateau at an altitude of 4,000 meters. It is so cold that even in the morning and evening in summer, you have to wear cotton-padded clothes and live in cloth tents that are not sheltered from the wind and rain. The people couldn't understand the language... These difficulties flew towards this passionate young man like a mountain on top of him, and his ideological struggle began.

After much deliberation, he decided to stay.He thought: The party has trained me for so many years, is it not for the sake of making me serve the people well? Now facing the vast number of Tibetan compatriots, I bow my head and retreat in front of difficulties. How can I be worthy of the party that cultivated me and loves the people?Thinking of the party, his courage arose infinitely, and he decided to persevere on the grassland. After that, for four years, he worked diligently to do medical tours in tent circles. Regardless of whether it was day or night, and the roads were short and long, he followed the instructions of the party and tried his best to overcome all kinds of difficulties, treating and caring for every patient. Tibetan people seeking medical treatment.Because of his unremitting enthusiasm and good medical achievements, more and more Tibetan people come to him for medical treatment. He established a deep bond with the Tibetan people like a family member. At the same time, it has continuously expanded its political influence among them and enhanced the party's prestige.During his four years of work, there are many moving stories.

In the spring of 1955, a big fire broke out on the grasslands in the Ola area. A Tibetan woman named Cao Jia was severely burned on her right arm because she rescued cattle and sheep from the fire.Dr. Li Gong treated her for several months. He tried everything - injections and medicines, but Cao Jia's wound couldn't heal forever. One day, when he was studying in the tent, he heard several waiting patients talking on the grass outside the tent. An old Tibetan lady asked Cao Jia, "How is the doctor's skill of the Communist Party? Is your wound better?" Cao Jia said: "The doctors of the Communist Party are not necessarily very skilled. I have been treated for several months, but I still haven't improved. I think I should go to a Tibetan doctor!" As if being stabbed with a knife, he thought: "My Tibetan compatriots have regarded me as a doctor of the Communist Party representing everything. If my medical work is not done well, won't it reduce the party's prestige among the Tibetan people?" On the one hand, I deeply sympathize with this Tibetan woman who has been plagued by pain for a long time, and on the other hand, I am worried that there is no teacher or colleague around me who can discuss and ask for advice.Resisting his misery, he calmly went out to talk to Cao Jia and asked her to come back in three days.During these three days, he kept flipping through the only two medical books at hand, and saw a skin transplant therapy, which is to cut a piece of good skin and transplant it on the wound to help the wound heal.Three days later, when he explained the method to Cao Jia and mobilized her to remove the skin from her leg and transplant it on her arm, Cao Jia jumped up in fright and said, "My arm hasn't healed yet, and I still have to put it on." Is my leg broken too? Well, don't treat me again!"

These few words, like bullets, exploded in Dr. Li Gong's mind! After much deliberation, he finally decided to take off his own skin and perform a transplant operation on her.He asked Cao Jia to come back tomorrow. That night, he took out the only simple surgical tools at hand and sterilized them... He had never done this kind of surgery before, and he took a piece of skin from his own leg. He couldn't help but feel timid.By this time it was daylight.Soon, Cao Jia came, and he told Cao Jia to lie down, covered her face with a sheet, and told her not to look this way. When he injected anesthesia on his leg and began to cut off the first piece of skin, Cao Jia sat up, with tears of gratitude in his terrified eyes, sobbing and saying: "I have never heard it before, and I have never heard it before. I have never seen such a doctor cut off his own flesh and blood to treat patients. The Communist Party is my benefactor, and I will never forget the Communist Party until I die!"

Cao Jia's arm was completely healed. She and her husband brought a sheep to thank Dr. Li Gong.Dr. Li Gong said: "The Communist Party and Chairman Mao sent me here to treat everyone. Don't thank me, you should thank the Communist Party and Chairman Mao." He also asked them to take the sheep back. They said with great gratitude: "The Communist Party and Chairman Mao are closer than parents and hotter than the sun. We will follow the Communist Party until we die!" They said this from the bottom of their hearts. He sacrificed his precious life in the cause of serving his own people.

Children, this is just one of Dr. Li's stories.I wonder if you were also moved after hearing this story?Do you admire and love this young doctor? Are you willing to learn from him?He was able to contribute everything he has to the interests of the people so bravely because he tapped the source of all strength. As long as you think about the party at all times, deeply understand the party's sincere and lofty desire to serve the people, and resolutely maintain the influence and prestige of the party, anyone, no matter how young he is, will naturally take the people's heart and soul into account. Put interests above personal interests, be willing to care about others and forget about yourself.

This is the inspiration I got from Dr. Li Gong's talk, and I would like to tell my dear children what I got! Your friend Bing Xin November 12, 1959.
