During the big exam last winter, I missed the "Bible" class because of illness. The next day I recovered, the "Bible" class professor Ms. An asked me to make up the exam. It was a cloudy day, and although it was not snowing, the air was extremely dull.I was listless, with a "Bible" in my hand, and walked around the courtyard on the snow, to the upstairs where she lived, and went up the steps. She was already standing by the door, and asked me with a smile, "Are you cured?" ", and took me to her study. She sat in the rocking chair and I leaned on the back of the chair and stood by the fire. She took the Bible and opened it; she briefly asked me about a few verses from the Psalms, and then she took a pen to write on the notebook by herself.I looked up--suddenly, I saw a picture leaning on the mantelpiece!

A precipitous rock wall, covered with fluffy withered grass.A shepherd is climbing on the wall, with his face turned away, holding a pole in his right hand, but stretching his left hand down to caress a lamb under the rock, his fingertips just reaching the lamb's head. There are a few hungry eagles circling in the sky.The sky in the painting is the same as that day, gloomy—gloomy. Look! There are thorns hanging from the shepherd's sleeve. He climbed the cliff to find his lamb, poor lamb!It has lost its way, there are many wrong paths in the ground, and there are hungry eagles chasing it in the sky-it has reached the end of the mountain. The shepherd is here!Don't blame it, but still love it.It was sad, ashamed, and happy, but it was gentle and shy, with its head up, standing next to the shepherd's hand, without moving.

Although I have always loved pictures very much, there are one or two landscape paintings that have won my attention for a long time. However, my attitude towards them seems to be that they come to amuse me and beg my appreciation; therefore, only words of admiration and pleasant emotions come from me. This picture is different! It hints at me, teaches me, comforts me.It does not allow me to say a word, but only makes me stand quietly and solemnly beside the stove. ——I couldn't fix my eyes, and the feelings in my heart were rushing like a tide. After a while, I was about to cry suddenly. Are these tears gratitude? Is it faith?Did you get comfort?

It doesn't allow me to say it, and I can't say it—Ms. Ann called me at this time; Turn the page.My eyes also moved over there—there were a few lines of clear words on the other side: no words, no words...but the voice is extremely smooth! " The time of that day has long passed, and other impressions of that day are also blurred. But this poetic and pictorial feeling has never left me from then to now—September 6, 1920 (this article was originally published in the third issue of Volume 1 of "Yan University Quarterly" in September 1920 , Signed: Xie Wanying, later included in the collection of poems and essays "Leisure Love".)
