There are those who seek broad examples in the ancient writings, and those who give examples and vice versa.今夫山一卷石之多,今夫水,一勺之多,天地之外复言山水者,意有所不尽也。坤也者地也,不言西南之卦。兑正秋也,不言西方之卦。举六方之卦而见之也,意尽于言矣。虞仲翔以为坤道广布,不主一方,及兑象不见西者,妄也。 丰多故亲寡旅也。先言亲寡后言旅,以协韵也。犹楚辞之吉日兮辰良也。虞仲翔以为别有义,非也。 兑为口舌,其于人也,但可以为巫为妾而已。以言说人,岂非妾妇之道乎? 凡人于交友之间,口惠而实不至,则其出而事君也,必至于静言庸违。故舜之御臣也,敷奏以言,明试以功。而孔子之于门人,亦听其言而观其行。 唐书言韦贯之自布衣为相,与人交终岁无款曲,未尝伪辞以悦人。其贤于今之人远矣! 序卦杂卦皆旁通之说,先儒疑以为非夫子之言。然否之大往小来,承泰之小往大来也。解之利西南,承蹇之利西南不利东北也。是文王已有相受之义也。益之六二即损之六五也。其辞皆曰十朋之龟。姤之九四即夬之九三也。其辞皆曰臀旡肤。未济之九四即既济之九三也。其辞皆曰伐鬼方。是周公已有反对之义也。必谓六十四卦皆然,则非易书之本意。或者夫子尝言之而门人广之,如春秋哀十四年西狩获麟以后续经之作耳。 苏氏曰,昼日三接故曰昼,得其大首故曰诛。晋当文明之世,群后四朝,而车服以庸,揖让之事也。明夷逢昏乱之时,取彼凶残而杀伐用张,征诛之事也。一言诛,一言昼,取其音协尔。[37]昼古音注,易体及张衡西京赋并同。虞仲翔曰,诛伤也,本义用之与昼义相对不切。 孔子论易见于论语者二章而已,曰加我数年五十以学易,可以无大过矣。曰南人有言曰,人而无恒,不可以作巫医。善夫,不恒其德,或承之羞。子曰不占而已矣。是则圣人之所以学易者,不过庸言庸行之间,而不在乎图书象数也。今之穿凿图象以自为能者畔也。 记者于夫子学易之言而即继之曰,子所雅言诗书执礼,皆雅言也。是知夫子平日不言易,而其言诗书执礼者,皆言易也。人苟循乎诗书执礼之常而不越焉,则自天佑之吉旡不利矣。故其作系辞传于悔吝旡咎之旨,特谆谆焉。而大象所言凡其体之于身施之于政者,无非用易之事。然辞本乎象,故曰君子居则观其象而玩其辞。观之者浅,玩之者深矣。其所以与民同患者,必于辞焉著之。故曰圣人之情见乎辞。若天一地二,易有太极,二章皆言数之所起,亦赞易之所不可遗,而未尝专以象数教人为学也。是故出入以度,旡有师保。如临父母,文王,周公,孔子之易也。希夷之图,康节之书,道家之易也。自二子之学兴,而空疏之人迂怪之士举窜迹于其中以为易。而其易为方术之书,于圣人寡过反身之学去之远矣! 诗三百,一言以蔽之,曰思无邪。易六十四卦,三百八十四爻,一言以蔽之,曰不恒其德,或承之羞。夫子所以思得见夫有恒也。有恒然后可以无大过。 易有七八九六,而爻但系九六者,举隅之义也。故发其例于乾坤二卦,曰用九用六,用其变也。亦有用其不变者。春秋传,穆姜遇艮之八。晋语,董因得泰之八,是也。[38]杜元凯注谓,杂用连山归藏二易,皆以七八为占。故言遇艮之八者,非。晋语,公子筮得贞屯悔豫皆八。本卦为贞之卦为悔。沙随程氏曰,初与四五凡三爻变,其不变者二三上在屯为八,在豫亦八。今即以艮言之,二爻独变,则名之六。余爻皆变,而二爻独不变,则名之八。是知乾坤亦有用七用八时也。乾爻皆变而初独不变,曰初七潜龙勿用,可也。坤爻皆变而初独不变,曰初八履霜坚冰至,可也。占变者其常也,占不变者其反也。故圣人系之九六。欧阳永叔曰,易道占其变,故以其所占者名爻,不谓六爻皆九六也。得之矣。 赵汝梅易辑闻曰,揲蓍策数凡得二十八,虽为干亦称七,凡得三十二。虽为坤亦称八。 杨彦龄笔录曰,杨损之蜀人,博学善称说。余尝疑易用九六而无七八。损之云卦画七八,爻称九六。 干之策二百一十有六,坤之策百四十有四。亦是举九六以该七八也。朱子谓七八之合亦三百有六十也。[39]干遇七则一百六十八。坤遇八则一百九十二。 舜曰官占惟先,蔽志昆命于元龟。诗曰,爰始爰谋,爰契我龟。洪范曰,谋及乃心,谋及卿士,谋及庶人,谋及卜筮。孔子之赞易也,亦曰人谋鬼谋[40]祖伊告纣言格人元龟,亦先人后龟。夫庶人至贱也,而犹在蓍龟之前,故尽人之明而不能决,然后谋之鬼焉。故古人之于人事也,信而有功。于鬼也严而不渎。 子之必孝,臣之必忠,此不待卜而可知者也。其所当为,虽凶而不可避也。故曰欲从灵氛之吉占兮,心犹豫而狐疑。又曰用君之心,行君之意,龟策诚不能知此事。善哉屈子之言,其圣人之徒与! 卜居屈原自作,设为问答以见此心。非鬼神吉凶之所得而移耳。王逸序乃曰,心迷意惑,不知所为,往至太卜之家,决之蓍龟,冀闻异策,以定嫌疑。则与屈子之旨大相背戾矣。洪兴祖补注曰,此篇上句皆原所从,下句皆原所去。时之人去其所当从,从其所当去。其所谓吉乃原所谓凶也。可谓得屈子之心者矣。 礼记少仪问卜筮曰,义与志与?义则可问,志则否。子孝臣忠义也。违害就利,志也。卜筮者,先王所以教人去利怀仁义也。 石骀仲卒,无适子,有庶子六人。卜所以为后者,曰沐浴佩玉则兆。五人者皆沐浴佩玉,石祁子曰,孰有执亲之丧而沐浴佩玉者乎?不沐浴佩玉。石祁子兆。卫人以龟为有知也。南蒯将叛,枚筮之遇坤之比,曰黄裳元吉。子服惠伯曰,忠信之事则可,不然必败。外强内温忠也。和以率贞信也,故曰黄裳元吉。黄中之色也。裳下之饰也,元善之长也。中不忠不得其色。下不共不得其饰,事不善不得其极。且夫易不可以占,险犹有阙也。筮虽吉未也。南蒯果败。是以严君平之卜筮也,与人子言依于孝,与人弟言依于顺,与人臣言依于忠。而高允亦有筮者,当依附爻象劝以孝忠之论,其知卜筮之旨矣。 申鉴或问卜筮曰,德斯益,否斯损。曰何谓也?吉而济凶而救之谓德。吉而恃凶而怠之谓损。 君子将有为也,将有行
