About "Macau Chronicle" The Portuguese were among the colonialists who came to Zhejiang and Guangdong of our country by sea from very early on.In the 14th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1535 A.D.), they bribed the officials on the border of Guangdong at that time, and rented a corner of land on the seashore of today's Macao for "ship repairing and sunning goods".At that time, the Ming people called it Franji, which was confused with the Spaniards.Later they called themselves the Atlantic country, so the Cantonese still call the Portuguese "Westerners".The Portuguese Consulate in Hong Kong is also known as the "Atlantic Consulate" and their club is also known as the "Atlantic Club".

Although Macao is one of the earliest coastal lands that were occupied by people, we have always had very few books recording this place. Except for a "Macau Chronicle", there are only some tourist guides and other things. This book was published in the 16th year of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty (1751 A.D.), more than 200 years ago. The book "Macau Chronicle" is not widely circulated, and the first printed version of the original publication is rare. Today, the common ones are only typesetting copies and some series of books.Ten years ago, I saw one at the office of Major Bucksey in England (he is famous for his research on the historical relationship between the Portuguese and the Eastern countries, and once wrote a "Historical Macao" in English.

His wife is the American female writer Xiang Meili who lived in my country for many years). The book is very clean, and it is exquisitely bound with silk thread magnetic blue paper, which is much better than the one in the Fung Pingshan Library of the University of Hong Kong. I have wanted to buy one for a long time, but I have never been able to, until recently I bought a photocopy. Although it is not the original issue, it is much better than the small type printed in print.A local chronicle book published during the Qianlong period is now so difficult to buy, no wonder Americans are willing to spend a lot of money to search for local chronicles of various provinces and counties in our country.

The authors of "A Brief History of Macau" are Yin Guangren and Zhang Rulin. Both of them were acquaintances of Macao coastal defense who had been stationed in Ruoqian Shanzhai during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty.Yin is from Baoshan, Jiangsu, and Zhang is from Xuancheng, Anhui. "Xiangshan County Chronicles" has a biography of Yin Guangren, which praises him for his achievements in helping the barbarians during his tenure in Macao. "Macao Chronicle" was compiled into "Siku Quanshu" Geography of the Ministry of History. The summary of the general catalog of "Siku Quanshu" says:

"Macau Chronicle Volume II, co-written by Guochao Yinguangren and Zhang Rulin. Guangren's name is Fuchang, from Baoshan, an official to the magistrate of Taiping Prefecture; Rulin's name is Yunshu, a native of Xuancheng, from Bagong Shengguan to Macao Tongzhi The name Kaohaojingao can be found in the history of the Ming Dynasty. There are four mountains standing in the south, and the sea water intersects to form a cross. The White Cross Gate is now called Macao and belongs to a mountain county. Macao Tongzhi was established in the ninth year of Qianlong, and Guangren and Rulin successively For this purpose. The book was not completed at the beginning of Guangren, but it was completed by Rulin. There are three editions, the first is the situation, the second is the official guard, and the second is the Australian and Tibetan. The situation is compiled as Figure 12, and the Australian and Fan is compiled as Figure 6. Ming history and geography, only wearing Nantou, Tuen Mun, Jilou, Fotangmen, and cross

Men, Lengshuijiao, Laowanshan, Lingdingyang'ao and other names, and Hutou Mountain Pass, etc., others are not recorded in detail. This book is the most familiar about the dangers of mountains and seas, and the gains and losses of defense.Covering the outline of the history and the detailed bibliography of the annals, the author has his own style. " According to the preface and postscript of this book written by Yin and Zhang, this book was drafted by Yin Guangren, and then compiled and published by Zhang Rulin. The process of compilation was described in detail in Yin's postscript, and there were many twists and turns.Postscript:

"...In the eighth year of Yongzheng, the magistrate of Xiangshan County was set up to deal with the intertwining of people and barbarians. In the eighth year of Qianlong, the government also proposed to set up a member of the Tongzhi, who was in charge of the soldiers to suppress it, and promoted the others to lead other affairs. Yu Bucai, read The matter belongs to the founding. I loved the islands, visited the people, searched the volumes, and recorded what I saw and heard, hoping to make up for the lack of ambition. But the examination is unprepared, and the words are not written. I will wait for the gentlemen. The origin of the outline is also. In the spring of the eleventh year of Qianlong, Yu Fengwen introduced it. Zhang Zi, who replaced the rest, understood that there was a text. Because the manuscripts belonged to each other, they were expected to be completed together. Zhang Zi said, I am afraid that I will not be caught. Xu Hongquan, the head of Yuexiu Mountain, was a friend of Yu Tongnian and signed a contract with the emperor, and he rectified it. Yu said Shan, and sent the manuscript to Hongquan. Not long after I died, the original was lost. Here I returned to Guangdong. In the fourth month of Xinwei, Quanchao Junzhuan, Zhang Zi also came to take pictures. The rest of the public gathered here, and I was deeply moved. I searched for the leftover paper. Scattered and scattered collections, eight or nine of them were obtained in ten days. Zhang Zi determined his style and made great additions and losses. He regarded the roughness and carelessness of the original manuscripts as insignificant. Husband, this book is only two ears, and it is not complicated at first. Time and time, it was drafted in the tenth year of Qianlong, when it was roughly obtained, it was lost in the hands of Xu Zi. After five or six years, the remaining ink was left behind, and it was discarded in the shackles so that it would not be eaten by silverfish. It is still collected and edited today. This cannot be done without Zhang Zi, and it cannot be done without Tongguan Fengcheng. There are not many rolls of tents, and after gathering and dispersing several times, they will not be destroyed in the end, and there are almost a few of them left..."

Needless to say, there are unavoidable misunderstandings and inaccuracies in the records of the Portuguese in "A Brief Chronicle of Macau", and even childish and ridiculous places. Go into the house, see his wife, and put the cane or umbrella outside with him, and when he returns, he will avoid her when he sees him..." This is absurd.
