Chapter 20 Literati Comparative Studies

Equality of Things In the forty-third issue of the twelve volumes of "Guowen Weekly" [2], there was an article pointing out the misuse of quotation marks and misplaced sentences in the "Series of Rare Books of Chinese Studies"; 〔3〕Mr. came to reply. The acknowledgment is for the purpose of "maintenance of health" 〔4〕, not for the purpose of "cultivating children and grandchildren's blessings".At the end, there is a general justification: "However, although he failed and made a fool of himself, fortunately, he did not commit any serious crimes. Because at best, he just printed some sloppy books, and he did not sell other people's souls. With flesh and blood as their own 'health master', like some other literati."

There are two "some" of Chinese literati. Some "printed sloppy books at best", while "other literati" "sold other people's souls and flesh and blood for their own "Health Master", we only need to think about "other literati", and we will know that Mr. Shi not only "cannot be regarded as committing any serious crime", but in fact can be regarded as cultivating some kind of "children and grandchildren blessing". But on the one hand, he also vividly painted the face of "the evil young man in the foreign field"-but this is not "a big crime", "like some other literati". CC

Here it is used to mean "mainly for living".
