Chapter 15 "On Art" (Lu Shi) [1]

"On Art" (Lu Shi) [1] Small order (2) This small book is retranslated from the Japanese translation of Shousumeng [3]. The features of the book and the present task of the author have been explained succinctly in the fourth paragraph of the original preface, so I cannot add any more. Everyone seems to have little understanding of the author's childhood life experience. Some said that his father was Russian and his mother was Polish; some said that he was born in a poor family in Chiave in 1878; big landowner. In short, he graduated from Kiev Middle School, but could not go on to higher education because his ideas were new.Later, he traveled to study morality and law, and returned to China by Zhongjing [5], was sentenced to exile once, and then went overseas. It was not until the March Revolution[6] that he was freed and returned to his home country. He is now the chairman of the People's Education Commission.

He is a revolutionary, but also an artist, a critic.Among the works, there are "Images of Literature", "Echoes of Life", "Art and Revolution", etc., which are the most well-known in the world, and there are also many operas. There is also a volume of "Foundations of Positive Aesthetics", a total of five articles. Although it was published as early as 1903, it is an important book.Because as the author said in the preface, it is "in the most compressed form to convey the general aesthetics with all conclusions", and it has also become the foundation of his thoughts and actions so far.

The publication of this "On Art" is considered new, but it is only a new compilation.I don’t know one or three articles, the second article was originally in "Art and Revolution"; the last two articles include almost all of "Foundations of Positive Aesthetics", and the comparison is as follows now—— "Basis of Positive Aesthetics" "On Art" 1. Life and ideals 5. Art and life (1) What is the second aesthetics? What is Sanmei?Simei and its types (1) The four most important types of beauty are the same (2) Five Arts Five Art and Life (2) That is, there is only one article, which I have translated and attached to the back, which will become "Art Theory" and include all of "Foundations of Positive Aesthetics". If you read it in the order listed above, it is equivalent to reading That part is gone.Although the conclusions of each chapter are different from time to time, they are irrelevant. Also, the brilliant article "Life and Ideals" was mentioned in the original preface, but there is no such title in the book. After comparison, I realized that it is the first chapter of "Art and Life".

From what I've seen, I feel that the arrangement and content this time are more neat and tidy, but for readers, I'm afraid it's easier to understand if you follow the arrangement of "Basics of Positive Aesthetics" in order; the first three articles , It’s okay to read first and then read. It was originally a book condensed to the essence, but it is based on the sociology of biology, which involves biology, physiology, psychology, physics, chemistry, philosophy, etc., and the scope of knowledge is extremely wide. As for the socialism of aesthetics and science, it is Not to mention. For all these, the translator is not well-educated, so whenever he is suffocated and incomprehensible, he refers to "New Art Theory" [7] (including "Art and Industry") and "Positive Aesthetics" by Mason Weishi. The basis of the translation of Shiro Sotamura [8] and Tetsuya Baba's translation. However, in the difficult parts, the texts of the two books are often the same, and it is still difficult to get through. It takes a long time, and it is still only a boring book. As for mistakes, they are inevitable. It would be better if there are dedicated researchers who break up the original syntax and make the terms shallower, so that the free translation is close to explanation; or it would be better to translate from the original text.

In fact, to know the author's proposition, it is enough to read "Foundations of Positive Aesthetics".But the title of this book may be enough to deter current readers, so I took this one.But in the end, I couldn't do what I wanted, and I couldn't translate it into better words. I just hope that the readers will be patient and watch, and they will probably be able to understand the general idea and understand it.For example, the unity of art and industry, the unity of reason and emotion, the unity of truth, goodness and beauty, the necessity of fighting, the necessity of ideals based on reality, the necessity of clinging to reality, and even the monarch as a virtuous person are all important. It is extremely vigilant. The whole book is behind, so I won’t list them here.
